Argus Posted December 17, 2008 Report Posted December 17, 2008 No link, because there is none yet, but I heard it on CBC radio. PM and Minister of Heritage to be in Winnipeg to make the announcement on Friday. Whoop de do. Just what the hell is a "museum" of human rights going to contain anyway? High minded platitudes along with pictures of sad-eyed victims? Smallc Posted December 17, 2008 Author Report Posted December 17, 2008 dunno, just reporting the news. Any project that will bring attention (good attention) to Canada is a good thing in my view. Quote

Canadian Blue Posted December 17, 2008 Report Posted December 17, 2008 I remember when I was in Winnipeg in 2006 they were talking about starting to build this museum as well. I can't really judge the merits of it until they give us some details about what it'll entail. PS: I wonder if they're going to put an issue of Macleans in an exhibit to showcase what hate literature is. Quote "Keep your government hands off my medicare!" - GOP activist
Smallc Posted December 17, 2008 Author Report Posted December 17, 2008 I remember when I was in Winnipeg in 2006 they were talking about starting to build this museum as well. Yes. Construction couldn't start until all private funding was in place. Right now they are only $3M from what they need. I imagine that either the Aspers or the province will top it off. If you want to see what its about, you can visit the website. They have a video. Quote
OddSox Posted December 17, 2008 Report Posted December 17, 2008 http://www.canadianmuseumforhumanrights.com/ It's certainly a pretty building, although not cheap. They don't really say what they going to put in it but with a $22 million annual budget I'm sure they'll think of something. I guess this falls under the 'stimulus' category? Quote

It looks like it will be very high tech and electronic according to the video. Its an infrastructure project.....only thing is its kind of in the wrong province right now being as we still have a labour shortage in the Winnipeg area. Edited December 17, 2008 by Smallc Quote

Oleg Bach Posted December 17, 2008 Report Posted December 17, 2008 So Orwellian, much like the Museum Of The Ministry Of Love..they had better put some human rights into our judical system - from the family courts - to the litigative ones to the the crimminal ones (crimminals should have no rights) - right up to the Supreme Court that hates human rights and always passes the buck the the Human Rights Tribunal - then the rights are dumped in the trash bin - What a bunch of delluded hypocrites...to create a temple of rights and glorify themselves as if the builders actually enforce real law that guarentees human rights - I don't see them granting rights - I just see them incrimentally taking them away. More than enough projects over the the next few years to keep people busy. We've barely been affected by the downturn. Once resource prices stabilize, the mines and drilling operations will return to normal and will need far more people. You can keep sending them. Quote

Hydraboss Posted December 18, 2008 Report Posted December 18, 2008 A monumental waste of money on...well...a monumental waste of money. Question for all the bleeding heart liberals and dippers.........are you okay with a $22 million annual budget for this crap when children, immigrants and liberal arts majors are starving in the streets? (you know, the streets with all the soldiers in them?) I'll support the museum if Canada agrees to disband and forget the Human Rights Circus...I mean Commission. Smallc Posted December 18, 2008 Author Report Posted December 18, 2008 (edited) Sure, they can help in the construction of the $150 million Ikea store, the largest in Canada. Or the rest of the development that goes with it. Its completely crazy. This city is on fire right now. There is rumours of a second Cabela's, a Wal-Mart Super Centre, and a Bass Pro Shop. Too bad we lost the apartment tower, but you can't win them all I guess...I really hope we get the HIV centre though...oh, and I hope this whole port thing works out. blueblood Posted December 18, 2008 Report Posted December 18, 2008 I'd like to see this recession as an opportunity to fully upgrade the port of Churchill. perhaps send a pipeline up there, improve the railway/build new track. This business of going thru TBay is a joke. This business of going thru TBay is a joke. Railway is being improved as we speak. The northern section is in bad shape and is being rebuilt. The port is getting a lot of work too. I do agree though, a set of tracks along highway 6 for example would be very good and would greatly reduce travel time. What I'm really excited for is the road to Nunavut. I hope it soon goes ahead. Then there could be trucks going to churchill and it would open it up as a huge tourist destination. If Centreport works out for Winnipeg, this place is about to really take off. With the addition of these destination retailers, well...Winnipeg and Manitoba are about to get much bigger. Quote
DrGreenthumb Posted December 18, 2008 Report Posted December 18, 2008 The sickest part is that this museum of "human rights" is to include a statue of a prominent white supremicist. Emily Murphy, author of "The Black Candle" and other such fear mongering rubbish is to be celebrated as a human rights champion. Imagine building a stautue of a woman who was a member of the racist "anti-chinese league" at a museum dedicated to human rights? Emily Murphy, the founding mother of Canada's war on plants is probably responsible for more human rights abuses in this country than any other single person in our history, and she gets a statue built in her honour at the human rights museum. It is even more of an insult to all Canadians of chinese descent than having that racist bitch on our 50 dollar bill. Every 50 I get I cross out Emily and write the word racist over her head. Quote
Mr.Canada Posted December 18, 2008 Report Posted December 18, 2008 This isn't a priority. I hope taxpayers aren't funding this junk. They're redoing the bad portion of the tracks from Gillam to Churchill. Quote
