guyser
If you don't like it then don't celebrate Christmas. That's up to you entirely but please don't tell the rest of us we cannot as well. Tell you what, show me one incident of someone telling you or anyone else in this country that they cant celebrate christmas.
Oleg Bach
It's wonderful. It's a yearly reminder that we are all entitled to love and live....great idea and love not money has always been the lubricant that makes it all run smoothely...Christ was a smart fellow - celebrating his birth is appreciated by all. charter.rights
Double Humbug! Another empty platitude. No doubt the next thing you will be doing is calling me a sinner. You do realize that Jesus did did not celebrate Christmas? So if you are trying to emulate Christ then I suggest you re-evaluate your pagan beliefs. JerrySeinfeld
Tell you what, show me one incident of someone telling you or anyone else in this country that they cant celebrate christmas. In doing a search I can find examples worldwide. Canada - not in the first two pages of google. But while there ARE examples out there, let'stalk about the positives. During my search I also found examples of a few muslims saying "christmas is ok and christmas trees are ok". That is freaking great. Now it's still a shame that a site like that even has to exist: ie. can you imagine a site like "black people are actually ok"?? ridiculous. But the fact that muslims within their own faith are starting to speak up and accept other religions is brilliant. As with the old AIDS saying used to go: "silence = acceptance". It's nice to see some muslims speaking out in acceptance. But a long way to go. We need to get to the point where people in that faith needn't post website claiming that it's "ok to have a christmas tree". The tolerance finally looks like it's slightly beginning to be expressed so that it can crush the silence, Edited December 13, 2008 by JerrySeinfeld

So no menorahs or anything else either right? Even if you dont own the company you're going to push your secu-socialist ways on all of us... Completely sterile. Do us all a favour and stay in your urban centres. You'll find many of us in rural areas do not share your views and we don't want to embrace you a your kinds ideals. We're good, thanks anyhow. Oleg Bach
Christmas trees were everywhere at one time in this nation. Now they are more rare. And when we pander to those we wish not to offend we call it a holiday tree. One problem - the holiday tree has lost it's holyness..Mr C has a point. It's as if the whole nation was our home and now it is not - so we have to quietly set up our tree behind closed doors...but I don't give a damn - I'm putting mine in my window for all to see! Ha ha - you can't keep a good man down - Jesus was good...some just don't like the law as set down by the Christ...because it is not about religion - It's about people who want power over others and dispise the rule of law. Michael Hardner
MrC, You know - the laws based on our constitution - that allow people to worship in their faith if they so choose.

Uhm, I'm sure you mean in essence right. Not as in living in the 'olde tymes' right? Martin Luther was the beginning of the end but hind sight is always 20/20. To me a blending of the new with the old is good but the secu-socialists want to destroy everything that has the passed tied to it. Michael Hardner
MrC, Ok... so you support the buying of indulgences ? I tip my hat to you as you may be the most conservative person I've met on this board. You are literally in the era of the 'flat earth' and the fiats against Copernicus. I admire the courage it must take to live your faith in this modern era of the internet (and electricity, and movable type). Best of luck, sir. AngusThermopyle
You know - the laws based on our constitution - that allow people to worship in their faith if they so choose. Interesting, I was never aware of the fact that the Christmas tree was an instrument designed to prevent others worshipping in the faith of their choice. Quite frankly I find the whole Christmas tree prohibition issue to be so petty and childish as to be beneath consideration. I wish people a merry Christmas from a spirit of genuine good will, not as some sinister machination designed to deny them religious freedom. If all you see in such instances are the aforementioned machinations then I suggest you rejoin the normal people back on earth for a while until your perspective clears up a little. Drea
Actually no one says that it isn't ok to have a Christmas tree. You just can't have it in MY workplace. That's ridiculous. I've worked with Jehova's Witnesses who had no problem when we decked out the whole office. They enjoyed the good cheer just like everyone else. Surely you are not a scrooge charter.rights? Christmas has become a cultural tradition. More so than it's religious or pagan connotations. Yes, the winter soltice is the original reason for the celebration. And yes, Christians and non-Christians celebrate the birth of Christ at that very same time. Scholars have recently concluded that Jesus was born in June. It could be though, that babies born in ancient times were not recognized as "people" for the first six months (becasue infant mortality was so high). Six months from June is December after all. Not that I've converted or anything (for those astonished that I would even mention the birth of Jesus ). I do believe that ancient stories stem from some grain of truth. AngusThermopyle
Christmas has become a cultural tradition. Very good point Drea. Some people do not realize this and fail to understand that the holiday has become much more than just a form of worship. This is why aitheists such as myself still enjoy it, and why I feel sorry for those who are just too stubborn or thick to get it.
Drea
I love Christmas. It seems to bring out the friendliness in most people. And I like Christmas songs. That one about the red shoes for his mom 'cause she's going to meet Jesus... I bawl my eyes out or turn off the radio! Christmas is about the heart and giving of your heart. Seems that should be simple and "generic" enough for anybody. I'm not religious but I still say Merry Christmas. I feel stupid saying happy holidays. What "holidays"? Summer holidays? Commercial on TV the other night woman says "Did you get your holiday gift?" Huh? Like someone (sorry don't recall) said earlier -- it's not the politicians or the public (or immigrants) demanding that "Christmas" not be mentioned. It's the corporations, they don't want to take the chance of offending ONE person and losing his dollar. Merry Christmas!
