It has never been done, not in the whole British Empire or the Commonwealth, to escape a confidence vote. Please don't try to minimize this. I happen to agree with the GG's actions, but this still could set an ugly precedent. Governments as a general rule should not be allowed to sneak away from votes they figure are going to see them toppled.

I agree 100% and what is Harper going to do the next time because the 3 parties are still saying Harper has to go. How many times is he going to run to the GG for help and how many times is she going to allow it???

I'd love to respond to you sir, but I'm not sure exactly what was said. Please clarify. "Me no like Liberal, hyuk hyuk" would suffice.

IF you can't understand what was said then you better pull yoiur head out of you arse and listen to what Canadians are saying. The polling done in the last couple of days has shown just how out of touch you are with Canadians. So I'm sorry if your ignorance is getting the way of comprehending what is being said.

Won't need to next time the coalition is dying and has been shown to be unstable the next time Harper meets with the GG it will be to say I have lost the confidence of the house I advise you to dissolve parliment and go to the people of Canada to choose a new government.

And she will do it seeing the response that has already been seen over the last week.

Oh well...I knew it wouldn't last long. References to all things American are essential for definition in Canada.

We know Obama...and frankly....Trudeau is no Obama!

Firstly i was not the one who initially compared Trudeau jr. to Obama. If you want to throw that reterict around, which party do you think has panadered to, and tried to emulate, the Republican party of the U.S.?

IIRC, wasn't it the Liberals who wanted no part of the colonialist invasion of Iraq? Wan't it the coservatives who were gung ho? If we've learned anything as a nation, its that the Liberal party is the party that most effectively defines and differentiates us from our southern neighbors.

In 1873, during the 2nd Canadian parliament, Prime Minister Sir John A. Macdonald asked Governer General Lord Dufferin to prorogue parliament in order to stop the work of a committee investigating MacDonald's involvement in the Pacific Scandal. While the Governor General did reluctantly prorogue parliament, he limited it to a period of ten weeks; when parliament returned Sir John A. Macdonald was censured and had to resign.[36]

Not only has it been done in Westminster systems, it's been done in Canada before.

they think that they know better and can override elections. They think they know better then the average election.

Dont know when that happened.

Thank god that Canadians have see this coup and the people invovled for what they are.

Dont know when a "coup" happened.

I guess if you went and learned what happened you would modify your posts, but nah, you dont want to speak the truth.

Again I say, never at this early a point in the session. The only reason Harper closed the doors was to avoid a vote of non-confidence, this is setting a prescedent. Totally correct and not remotely hypocritical. Not only that, but the timing of this proroguement during possibly the worst economic crisis since the great depression, shows the country that Harper is not fit to lead. Instead of addressing the crisis he instead tried to nueter the opposition parties through 'Reformist' legislature. Perhaps this should have been part of his platform during the last election, it wasn't of course. He vowed to work with the opposition in the best interest of Canadians. He did not. He has proven himself to be self serving time and time again, and the house has rightfully lost confidence in his party's ability to govern. The fact that the opposition supported the speech from the throne, was the olive branch that if Harper et al truly wanted to lead should have been grasped. They did not. The coservatives have made their bed.

Speaking of party platforms - perhaps the Bloc, NDP and Liberals should have campaigned that they would form the government together should they get enough seats instead of explicitly ruling that option out? If you are going to be arguing about self-serving politics we have a War and Peace volume to go through on the Coalition of Losers. If they Campaigned on this coalition, that would be different.

The Conservatives are going to get a boost from this mess. The Liberals are in existential difficulties - Perhaps the Conservatives should make their own bed more often then?

You can't have it both ways. You can't argue for technical parliamentary procedures for your side whilst lambasting the other side for doing the same thing. (unless of course you are just here as a hack and not an honest debater)

Thst is the truth the fact that you can't see the subversion of democracy. They were talking away my vote, and many others in a lame atempt to over turnt he resluts of the last election these people are no better then Mugaby.

But then a again you socialists have used coups as often as you can when the electorate doesn't give you the result you want.

That is being very honest, not like your backroom wheeling and dealings, to supplant a democractically elected government.

Clearly this coallition was formed as a direct result and in reaction to, dare I say, FASCIST legislature that Harper and his henchmen were trying to pass. If a Coalition was in place during the previous election we wouldn't even be having this discussion, and Harper wouldn't be PM.

Correct.....but I waited for you to continue the reference....good job.

Beats me....ask Iraqis, Serbs, or Haitians.

IIRC, wasn't it the Liberals who wanted no part of the colonialist invasion of Iraq?

No, they wanted a UNSC vote, then it would have been bombs away! I guess Afghanistan was their consolation prize?

Wan't it the coservatives who were gung ho? If we've learned anything as a nation, its that the Liberal party is the party that most effectively defines and differentiates us from our southern neighbors.

Of course...and that's what I said. The Americans are the foil, without which there would be no definition at all...except when it comes to Obama?

Aww, too bad. I was hoping that we could have an intelligent conversation.

Then you go an use the F word.

I don't use the C word when I refer to the NDP, why is it cool to use the F word when referring to the Conservatives? I mean, it just ruins your credibility.

I know there is a budding little intelligence behind your keystrokes, but blind, extemist ideology is snuffing it out before it even has a chance.

That is correct. Had a vote swung their way Canada would have been in the front of the rearest echelon with water purifyers, Hospital tents and an armed guard....

Fascist. Lets take a little look at where facism resulted from, all fascist leaders come from socialist movement. Fascit policy in All countries that went that way enacted socialist legislation. They became the centre of all economic planning but left the ownership of companies in owners hands, as long as they foloowed governmetn direction. FASCISM is a resluyt of leftist policies. I have never seen a conservative government come up with a 5 year plan have you?

The only reason the right was ever monikered with facism is because that is all you liftist pricks could come with to try and win elections. Well the secret agenda is out and it has been shown that it is the left that does the backrrom scheming not the right of this county.

When an individual or group of individuals utilizes fascist tactics, they can be construed as 'fascist'

Not sure that I've ever heard the NDP call for the elimination of our electoral system or Dictatorial rule, so I can see how you wouldn't use the "c" word when describing them.

Wow you caught us and have exposed our "Master Plan" how very fascist of you to point it out with the basis of your argument being void of fact, and full of reterict. I know, why don't you try to subvert the public by saying this is all a Je.... seperatist plot, and that they are the real power in this country and that 'real Germ....Canadians' need to rise up and squash this threat to our way of life. Wait, too late.....
