Alta4ever Posted April 3, 2008 Report Posted April 3, 2008 I don't think he caught the humour. Agreed, debate? I haven't heard anything on this side of the 'boarder'. Then again it'll just deteriorate into 'Corporations bad' jargon. Oops, already has. I agree with you guys, what debate, there has been any debate since 1992. The last 15 years have all put proved how successful Nafta has been for Canada Quote "What about the legitimacy of the democratic process, yeah, what about it?" Wilber Posted April 3, 2008 Report Posted April 3, 2008 Where is this big debate???Who are these Canadian boarders and why can't they get their own place? You looked at the price of Whistler real estate lately? Quote "Never trust a man who has not a single redeeming vice". WSC
August1991 Posted April 4, 2008 Report Posted April 4, 2008 Big debates around whether NAFTA should stay or go. Many Canadians have shown dissatisfactions with NAFTA, saying they got the lower end of the bargain... some suggest Canada didnt know what they were doing when they signed off to NAFTA Its definitely fostered new forms of political organizations, many of which go beyond Canadian boarders. "Lower end of the bargain"? Huh? As long as you see trade as a zero-sum game, you're not going to be able to discuss the issue intelligently. Trade means both sides walk away better off than they were before. There's no such thing as getting the "lower end of the bargain" - unless you mean that there is no bargain at all. NAFTA removed trade barriers (and made it harder to impose new ones). It made it easier for Canadians and Americans to deal with one another. In this sense, NAFTA is like cellphones and the Internet - they too make it easier for people to deal with one another. Who could be opposed? ---- Hyru, if you want to argue against corporations/capitalism/markets/the right wing etc etc, go ahead. But please think of a better argument than NAFTA. Even Bob Rae now understands that trade and free markets make people better off. Quote
