Cmon, Topaz. I know you think Harper is evil, corrupt and dangerous. Of course it would never occur to you that Harper had enough human compassion to contact a terminally ill colleague once in a while. How would showing concern make the Cadman's life more hellish?

It wouldn't, and another good reason not to respect the opposition and their allegations. Don't forget they were also visited by two Liberals.

Now that Dona Cadman has issued a press release claiming that she "respects" Harper, I wonder if Harper will issue a press release denying his very own comments to the reporter two and a half years ago. Unfortunately for Harper, those comments were recorded.

And I suppose you believe that nothing at all would happen to a Conservative candidate who does not "respect" Harper... After all, not a single Conservative candidate, once nominated, has been ousted...

Wrong. Check out Mark Warner, Derek Zeisman and Brent Barr.

Her professed "respect" for Harper would have been slightly more credible had she mentioned it last Thursday or even Friday rather than four days later.

Why do you think she is insincere? Do you think she was bought?

scriblett, to be fair maybe this visit was also out of compassion, who knows? Until I learn otherwise I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. :)

Garth Turner...

It's understandable that Turner was thrown out. In February, 2006, he pointed out to his Conservative colleagues the hypocrisy of Harper bribing Emerson with a cabinet position when Conservatives months earlier had expressed outrage at Stronach's floor-crossing. Garth Turner, if he truly "respected" Harper, should have simply ignored Harper's bribing Emerson. And if he really respected and trusted Harper, he should have also pointed out that offering the unelected and unaccomplished Fortier, his former campaign manager and personal friend, a cabinet position was further evidence of Harper's "integrity" and desire to restore "clean" government.

That may be one reason why Dona Cadman respects Harper.

What I think of Harper he has earned all by himself. I don't care for his secrecy, the way he treats certain groups, especially the media whose really working for the voters to get the news about the seating government out to us. How he lets his own government break laws and then say well you got your money worth! It obvious, the Cons tried over and over again to get him to change his mind and so towards the end they upped the offer and he got peeved, probably because he thought they thought he could be bought! As far as Dona Cadman herself, I'm sure people are starting to wonder why she is changing her statement and why she didn't say all that needed to be said at first. I'm sure today, Moore will stand up in the House and say, mr.speaker, there were only 3 people in the room etc etc. Well, Jimmy, YOU weren't there either and you're asking us to believe the two guys and when Cadman came out and said there were no offers, I'd say the same thing even if they were because cancer treatments drain you so much, physically, mentally, emotionally, I want the topic gone. I really admire him for getting on a plane and going to Ottawa and voting!

True, but how many times? who visited Cadman more, so far it sounds like the Cons did!

As i said before, CTV's phone interview with her, at the end the interview she was asked if she had heard from Harper and she said yes then when asked why she said.. HE CALLED IT WAS ABOUT A PRESS RELEASE!! We find Dona will respect Harper as long as she is accepted to the Conservatives and she may not be welcome after all this is over with.

"The Conservatives challenged the Liberals to make their allegations of bribery outside the Commons, where they are not protected by parliamentary immunity.

Liberal MP Ken Dryden, a lawyer, obliged. He reread his charges to reporters after question period, essentially challenging Harper to add his name to the list of Liberals he has threatened to sue.

Inside and outside the Commons, he said: "This is about offering money for a vote to bring down the government. Buying a vote to bring down the government. Unimaginable. Unthinkable in Canada. This is as serious as it gets, Mr. Speaker. I am sure the prime minister will agree if this is true, he can only resign, he must resign."

I wonder why Harper is suing Dion, Ignatieff and Goodale but not lawyer Ken Dryden who made his allegations outside of the House of Commons.

And Cadman said he was offered nothing by the Liberals.

In an interview, he said he was offered financial considerations by the Tories.

Mea culpa. I had assumed it was general knowledge that Harper et al had ousted not only Garth Turner (who pointed out Harper's blatant hypocrisy) but also a number of nominated Conservative candidates. For some reason he never ousted that paragon of integrity, Conservative MP Gurmant Grewal, who held a riding adjacent to Chuck Cadman's.

Grewal's riding is now held by a Liberal MP while Chuck Cadman's Surrey North riding is now held by a NDP MP, Penny Priddy, a close friend of Dona Cadman. Harper actually lost seats now in BC in two consecutive elections. Harper is desperate to win back Surrey North and the inexperienced Dona Cadman, because of the legacy of her husband, is the only candidate who stands a chance. There's no way Harper or his henchmen will get rid of her. The question in her riding now is will she resign?

So why don't these remaining "two guys" hold a press conference and tell us exactly what was said?

Good question. Even if they blatantly lie, Chuck Cadman won't contradict them. Let's hope that they have more integrity than Harper. Harper still has not explained his words on the tape nor denied that he said what he said on the tape.

You mean where he said he understood Cadman's decision and he thought it was a waste of time trying to get him to change his mind?

I meant his words on the tape "admitting that individuals representing the Conservative Party of Canada were in last-ditch discussions to procure Mr. Cadman's pivotal vote at a critical time for a teetering Liberal government."

That's a quote from the National Post asking Harper to put his words on the tape into an ethical and legal context rather than unleashing lawyers in an unsuccessful attempt to muzzle the opposition.

And he's never denied that meetings took place. He has denied that he knew of a 1 million dollar insurance offer.

What did Harper mean on the tape when he referred to "financial considerations"? Why won't he explain what he meant?

What did Cadman mean on video when he said that no one offered to buy his vote when he was asked back on the day the vote took place? Why was the Cadman family completely silent on this issue for all these years? Why would Cadman's wife run for a party that tried to bribe her dying husband?

I'm really curious, however, on the issue of what the Liberals paid and blackmailed to stay in power on that fateful day. Politics as usual, no less, no more. Just ask Belinda.

Wait a minute. The Cons had their chance to to prove that the Liberals did something illegal and I'm still surprised they didn't until the Cadman case came forward. Would you want to open up something that may get you in trouble too? As we all know there are people will will stick to a party no matter what. Dona could be a life long Con supporter and now her hubby is gone she has to look after herself, she needs a job. IF this story turns out that the Cadman's are not telling the truth, including Dona, is Harper still going to take her in? I really hope that's not the case, I hope no one is that stupid to plant a story to sell a book and thinking they wouldn't get caught. Canadians don't like to be had!

Conservatives were right to condemn Martin for taking on Belinda. Except for Garth Turner, where was there outrage when Harper took on Emerson?

It is getting funny watching the Tories run out of committees in the last days.

http://www.nationalpost.com/news/story.html?id=370957

The "run away" clause must be a recent insert to the Conservatives' secret handbook on how their MPs can disrupt committees trying to probe matters the government wants swept under the parliamentary rug.

It's sure not in the leaked copy locked in my desk.

But there was crusty Calgary MP Art Hanger yesterday, usually nobody's baby on these things, refusing to accept or even count the vote of MPs challenging his authority as justice committee chairman to banish the Chuck Cadman affair from study.

And with that, as a chorus of MPs howled for his head, Mr. Hanger bolted for the exit for the second time in as many days. A third runaway spectacle is scheduled for today's meeting.

The Tory denials can't be believed. Anyone remember how many times Harper denied pay-off in the Cutler affair?

http://winnipegsun.com/News/Columnists/Wes...900006-sun.html

On Dec. 4, fully 10 days after the deal was struck and with the 2006 election campaign in full swing, Harper was asked point-blank if the Conservative party had agreed to pay off Riddell as part of a backroom deal to clear the way for Cutler, the famous whistleblower.

"In fact, there is no agreement and he hasn't been paid anything," Harper told reporters.

If Harper was misinformed, he stayed that way for the rest of the day when he was asked the same question again.

"The party does not have an agreement to pay Mr. Riddell these expenses, and Mr. Riddell has not been paid anything to date," Harper replied.

The courts ultimately found that Riddell absolutely had a deal, and ordered the Conservatives to pay up.

Riddell also sued Harper and others for libel, and the case was settled out of court this past November, three months before it was due to go to trial.

Both sides agreed to say nothing.

That election might have been a different story if Harper's lies had been exposed then.
