Ref: Lions for Lambs bombs at the box office

The Redfors of the world sit in their ivory towers and try to tell us how to think and react based on their own prejudices and unrealistic notions of our world, let alone our nation. Here’s to hoping that all of them flop, because in the end they only serve to demoralize America and move us ever more closely to their version of nirvanna, socialism. And, as we all know from history, socialism does not work. It is a poison that decays and rots. This is the greatest nation on earth and is a beacon of freedom for all. It is a shame that these Hollywood liberals use their freedom to bite the hand that feeds them and keeps them safe, secure, wealthy and free. They are indeed entitled to their opions, but no one, including them, are entitled to success at the box office. Face it, people want entertainment, not indoctrination.

"... sit in their ivory towers and tell us how to think..."

Once upon a time, the Left claimed that Corporate America set the agenda and determined what people think. Well, surely Hollywood is a slick version of Corporate America. So why can't Hollywood decide what Americans think?

What's wrong with this picture?

I heard this movie is pretty preachy. But my Mom (good old Alberta conservative that she is) and her friends will sit through this (or anything else with Robert Redford in it). She loves Robert Redford.

And as far as the movie goes, it's just a movie. Entertainment. Either watch it as a movie or don't go.

What's wrong is that both are right.

The corporate agenda is centrist, but ultimately espouses the same values as the people who work for corporations - slightly socially liberal, slightly fiscally conservative but usually middle of the road.

Right-of-centre - especially rural - types will see the social liberalism, the urban viewpoint and see the media as being biased and not reflecting their values.

Left-of-centre anti-corporate types see that this viewpoint assumes that a stable business environment is a necessary foundation for the world, and that corporations and the upper classes are ultimately benevolent forces in society.

There have been several recent movies in which Hollywood shows its great disdain for the military and war. They have all bombed, and this movie is just the latest. The attempt at shoving Redford's (and whoever elses) hatred for Bush and this war down movie goers' throats only pisses us off. To paraphrase Laura Ingraham, shut up and act.

Agreed...I'd rather watch a Michael Moore joint that this kind of preachy drivel. At least with Moore he admits to well edited propaganda!
