Topaz Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 I'm just listening the CKLW Windsor and they are asking how people who cross the border, how they find it. There's certainly alot of different views but most say that they have changed the way they question people and its getting frustrating getting through. If you live in Canada and work in Michigan, everyday they asked, where do you work, how much money do they have, if you usually travel by tunnel why are you coming through to the bridge?? They take picture of your license plates and the people who have the 'special card' say at times, they have to wait up to hour to get through. Some say that the US side is too strict and the Canadian side too open. A trucker called in and he said its taking too long to get through on the US side. I just wondering how the two governments are going to keep the trucks moving and alot of people say there's too many autos in the tunnel and on the bridge not moving and that i think is a very dangerous thing to happen, if there are terrorist out there to do harm to Americans and maybe Canadians as Bush keeps saying!! They are also saying if you have a drug charge over 40 years ago, you can't entry the other country. Quote
daniel Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 Market forces at work. One will have to add up to total of: 1) cash spent in the US including taxes; 2) transportation costs including wear and tear of vehicle (if not directly included); 3) value of time spent for the entire round trip venture; 4) duties paid for what you thought was covered by FTA or NAFTA; 5) reduction of your personal annual import limit; 6) other inconveniences surrendered for this venture (finger print, mug shot, security checks, racial profiling, etc) for items you don't truly need but only want. If this total value is still less than the equivalent value spent at home, then go for it. Quote
bush_cheney2004 Posted October 27, 2007 Report Posted October 27, 2007 They are also saying if you have a drug charge over 40 years ago, you can't entry the other country. ...then stay home. Sovereign states do not have to grant entry, and if it takes too long, reconsider the decision to cross the border. It is called a "border" for a reason Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
Wilber Posted October 27, 2007 Report Posted October 27, 2007 When I check the border cam, most of the time on week days waits here are only ten minutes or so. Friday afternoons and weekends are quite busy but that has more to do with increased traffic due to our strong dollar than anything else. I don't find there is much difference going either direction when it comes to the amount of time talking to the border officials. Maybe Windsor is not a great place to cross. bush_cheney2004 Posted October 27, 2007 Report Posted October 27, 2007 Not much waiting that I can see... http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/general/times/menu-e.html Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
Moxie Posted October 27, 2007 Report Posted October 27, 2007 I miss the ole days when I'd be standing at the boarder or in my car stating "No sir I have nothing to declair while wearing ten new outfits at the same time". LOL, I can't get away with that anymore, the challenge of the hunt for bargains has left me. Quote Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy
Fortunata Posted October 27, 2007 Report Posted October 27, 2007 We shouldn't really care (except for those who ship back and forth maybe). It's the closest place to get away to but there are a ton of places as nice or nicer where they appreciate those who come and spend money and treat you very well so you will come back. I think that the US border will get more obstructionist before it gets less so you might as well get used to it. I still think they should just build their fences, don't let anyone in, don't let anyone out. The rest of the world will live on. Quote

The rest of the world will live on. They would still try to get in to the USA....from Canada, Mexico, Cuba, Haiti, Jamaica, Honduras, Guatemala, China, etc., etc. Some even die while trying to do so. bush_cheney2004 Posted November 6, 2007 Report Posted November 6, 2007 If they are getting in then clearly the USA is not properly doing it's job. Wrong....they are getting in because the USA is properly doing its job...and jobs. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
Drea Posted November 6, 2007 Report Posted November 6, 2007 ha ha hee hee. BC2004, you mean they are getting in because the USA wants them to get in? just like you WANTED Timothy McVeigh to have that bomb -- aha ha ha ha ha ha Every time I respond to one of your posts (Yours, whites or Scotty's) I picture me as Lucy pulling that ol' football juuuust before you kick it. Ha ha hee hheeee hooo hooo ha ha... ...sorry I just couldn't resist. You make it soooo eaaasy. Quote ...jealous much? Booga Booga! Hee Hee Hee
daniel Posted November 11, 2007 Report Posted November 11, 2007 This is quite the alternate to building that wall along the border to keep terrorists from entering via Canada. Quote
M.Dancer Posted November 11, 2007 Report Posted November 11, 2007 My friend went to Buffaloo Thursaday. She said there was a 10 minute delay going in and a 30 minute coming home....mainly because she declared everything and had to pay PST and GST on everything she bought. She still figures she saved money. I've been to Bufaloo.....there would have to be savings in the order of 100% to get me back to that 3rd world rusting terlet.... sharkman Posted November 11, 2007 Report Posted November 11, 2007 If they are getting in then clearly the USA is not properly doing it's job. (Drea, get a grip. Tim Mcveigh was an American and didn't sneak across the border. Your clueless comment about them wanting him to have that bomb was a rather inept attempt at trolling, maybe you should leave the trolling to those who can actually do it.) The above sentence by Fortunata is puzzling, I'm not sure if he/she actually feels that the country, USA, actually has some kind of occupation that it is doing incorrectly, or if per chance it's just the border and security people that are fouling up. Or maybe the politicians who are not passing good legislation for this matter. At any rate, I think that the US is 'properly doing its job' simply because all of the people who are daily trying to get in and live in prosperity and freedom. However, puttin up a guarded fence on the Mexican side wouldn't be a bad idea what with all of the shenanigans going on down there. Quote
