  1. Well without appearing a facist to detail. When i pop 2 advil to stop my splitting headache; im not really all that worried about burning out brain cells and becoming hopelessly addicted to them. I think there maybe a stuttle difference between illegal narcotics and a glass of wine or two advils.
  2. Fair enough, but i still see no harm in saying "A certain sect of society believe that........" hmm for some reason it didnt quote what BD wrote in response to my intial post.
  3. Heres a revolutionary idea, why not teach both and let the kids make up their own minds?
  4. I must admit, I am against such a move. The U.N. needs an overhaul, not more revenues. I thought you said you weren't going to mention it? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> United states will never do it, id vote out anyone or vote for the opposition of anyone who supported it. Im 100 percent totaly against this.
  5. No problem, I try not to let anti-americanism or personal attacks bother me. Just gotta defend urself/point as best you can. Forum posting is not necessarily the ideal form of communication there is no emotional tone involved, that you get through verbal discourse. Thus written words appear harsh/sarcastic, when possibly they were not meant to appear so.
  6. dont get me wrong there is still alot of racism here, someone posted a listing for 700 something race related hate groups in america. I wonder how many memebers belong to each group. because one thing to keep in mind is we have something like 260 million people living here. say on average theres 1000 memebers per group. so thats 700.000 people that are actively involved with a race hate group. now divide that into 260 million and tell me what percentage of the populationt that you come up with. The point im trying to make is its not AS BAS as i think some canadians percieve.
  7. no sacrasm intended.
  8. when i used to live in michigan i saw a fair deal of the cross border problems. I voted yes, for the simple reason that we have in fact taken advantage of the North America trade agreement, and we have allowed rampant smuggling of drugs, guns, and alcohol across the borders. I do miss visiting toronto and montreal but as i live in the deep south, my only point of news for canada is either the national news or this website. Its not that we dont care, its that we have very few sources. Another thing you have to keep in mind, Most of our attention in the last 20 years has been aimed abroad and less and less at home.
  9. wow thats so great! nice to see all the aid we send out to other parts of the world is returned.
  10. Of course he doesn't but he certainly has been very closely connected with the current Bush Republican administration who btw have enormous amounts of power. Are you denying that? I think it is important to be specific. If someone here mentioned they wanted to kill someone, point out the person by username so we all don't get tarred with the same brush. And as well it is important, essential actually, to say in what context those comments were made. It was a nice drive by smear IMO. BTW there's no we here posting like we some sort of close knit family. We are like any group, we have the good, the bad, and the ugly. I speak only for myself, and nobody else speaks for me. No I'm not going to generalize about all Americans but you after all pride yourselves on such a wonderful democracy you have, your (American) words, not mine, as I think your democratic system is seriously flawed. Do you disagree? I mean you Americans elected the Bush Republicans twice, and although I have my doubts as to its legitimacy, so a lot of Americans can't be left off the hook so easily. The reason I mentioned the war is that was based on pure deceit so why in the world would I want to believe one word coming out of your presdident now.? First of all this is a thread about US politics and we are talking here about the US. As far as bringing Canada into the equation: Two wrongs don't make a right. And also on top of that we elected Mulroney twice, who was probably the most destructive prime minister Canada has ever had. Unbelievable. I know exactly what I wrote. And when did I ever say that our current Canadian government would handle things any better. As a matter of fact although I would like to hope that they would do a better job, but realisticaly I seriously have my druthers. But it would be impossible for Canadians to do any worse, don't you agree? Anyway I prefer if we tried to raise our standards in both countries, as opposed to the constant lowering of them. Why don't we compare ourselves with the best instead of the worst? But denial is never going to solve anything and unless, and we're talking US here, Americans grab the bull by the horns, so to speak, and seriously change your system, and the people that are running your show, you are going to wallow in the mud forever. America's blind obsession with greed and capitalism is destroying the US from within. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> In point of fact you did generalize the whole of america here Please try cleaning up your sick society in the US before bringing us any more of your great ideas like you are bringing DEMOCRACY TO IRAQ. This means you think all of american society is sick. You did not say you need to clean up segments of American society. then you go on to say "And when did I ever say that our current Canadian government would handle things any better. As a matter of fact although I would like to hope that they would do a better job, but realisticaly I seriously have my druthers." So you sit here and bash us then say that you think your own government could not do much better? Then you say 'Americans cannot be let off the hook for voting in president Bush.' But is it not possible that the message bush sent to us during his campaign differs from what he really did? As i stated before I have my own candidate that i would like to run (check my post from today) but the republican party is not going to support a new candidate when they have already have a candidate seeking a 2nd term. So i will bid my time waiting for John Mccain to have his shot, you go on making your assumptions about america, and calling us sick and greedy, and i will go on shaking my head and your ignorance.
  11. i would vote for john mccain in a heart beat, i dream of getting back to a conservatism that values budgets and small government. lowered taxes for all. Bush is certainly not fiscally sound. hes a spender thru and thru. Even clinton was a much more moderate liberal when it came to economics, and liberal when it came to social agendas. I dont care what party they come from at this point as long as they help bring reality back into balance. Get the bleeding heart angry liberals out of power and get the bible thumping facist out of power. we need rational men in the us government and right now we have the farthest right or left in power instead of people who can see both sides on an issue.
  12. QUOTE(moderateamericain @ Sep 6 2005, 11:37 AM) i dont condone alot of things that the United States does, but lets face a few facts here, Some of you need to back off the anti americanism a little bit, ive seen a few of you post that you would take a shot at bush if you could get away with it, granted it may have just been trolls. But kill a man, because you dont believe in his politics? I think thats a bit over the edge. We all know the US is struggling financially and economically a bit right now with as much money as we have pumped into the war for iraq and afghanistan. Is it any surprise that it took us some time to get are ducks in a row to help N.O.? secondly, to evacuated a city of that size is like holding back a damn with ur arms. its just not gonna happen. When katrina hit florida it was BARELY a hurricaine, nobody knew that it was gonna turn into one of the biggest to ever hit the United states. They had what a 10 day notice? try evacuating Toronto in 10 days. It just not realistically going to happen. No its my belief that we are doing all we can to help those that we can get to. My next question is not an accusation of any kind, but how many of you have actually stayed for the full furry of a hurricaine before? I was in Charlotte for the one that came through last year and that one was only a category 1 hurricane by the time it reached charlotte. Let me tell you about rain of such driving force that you cant even walk out in it, it beats you down like a hammer. you cannot see more than 5 feet in front of you. The winds smash tear away anything loose, powerlines down, etc. you never understand how damn scary those things are until you live through it. Now i got but a taste of what one can do. Can you imagine a category 4 hurricane smashing into toranto or montreal? or vancouver (typhoon)? These things are human killers and there is nothing we can do or say to stop it. Katrina gave a 29 foot swell! the recorded a 45 foot wave! i mean theres nothing in the world thats gonna survive that. and 10 days is not long enough to evacuate a city. DENIAL DENIAL DENIAL I don't condone anyone killing anyone but how convenient it is for you that you are forgetting that you ever heard of Pat Robertson? wait a second, do you think pat robertson speaks for all of america? Please try cleaning up your sick society in the US before bringing us any more of your great ideas like you are bringing DEMOCRACY TO IRAQ. Im talking about hurricaines and ur talking about the war in iraq? further more are you going to generalize 260 million people? Do you really think we are the equivalent of a bunch of stupid Americans up here? I never made any assumption about Canada as a whole but apparently you have about the United States. I want you to really read what you wrote here. its so easy to sit back and judge, until it happens to you, i guess you will never know how your own government responds.

  14. first off let me say thank you to all those who donated to the US in a time of need, presidents may come and go, and lord knows we may not always agree with politics but its good to see that some of you realize that the politics are not always in agreement with the people. again thank you for your help in are time of need. I also want to thank europeans for the crude oil that was sent our way. gas prices in the south rose a full dollar and many pump stations were empty. Again thank you for you help. The responsibility for the dikes breaking goes back to the 70s. Its not a fault of bush or clinton. However it is the fault of both the city of New Orleans and the Army corps of engineers for assuming a force5/4 hurricane would not hit new orleans. Those dikes were only supposed to stave off a force3 hurricaine at the most. Southern politics is really at a cross road right now, You have wealthy northerners moving businesses to the south for better climates and cheaper living conditions and the "old money" down here is being pushed out of the market. Thus you see alot of southern gentile going into government service in order to maintan power within the south. the net result of that is these good ole boys as we like to call them, using their powers to keep them selves wealthy, thus you get the corrupt south. This kind of thing has been going on since after the civil war. Northern carpet baggers have been making oppurtonity out of the south for years. Its not really a stretch of an imagination that this is still going on today. On an unrelated note, another hurricaine is forming but this one is projected at me here in North Carolina, or more specifically my beach home.
  15. I suppose its easier to throw out BS like this than to actually try to address or understand BD's post. Sadly, you'd rather make playground level attacks on it. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> man, again the psyche of your average canadian is intresting to see. As an American, and part Native American i am proud of what my country stands for. You know what my favorite "America" moment was. Well actually there were 2. THe first was playing college football. The singer was singing the star spangled banner. And the blue angel fighter squadron (f-18 hornets) thundered over head. It gave me goose bumps. The other was when we burried my grandfather. He served in the philipinese during world war 2, I stood there as the 21 gun saluted was done. Not a single one of these soilders was even alive when my grandfather was in the army, but they showed him the respect that he deserved. I could not imagine living a life without pride in my country. i have the flag that was given to my grandmother displayed on a mantle over my fireplace. It will occupy that place of honor till they day i die.
  16. When I read about Pat Robertson's remark, I wondered, "Is this for real?" Then, when I heard the quote (for "real"), I thought about Black Dog. (True story, BD. The Internet is a curious community of opinion.) Thank you CrazyMotherF for making the point I would have made. Pat Robertson never ordered and financed guys to learn how to fly passenger planes and crash them into big buildings, killing themselves and many other people. Pat Robertson just said something really, really stupid.Well, Michael Moore says really, really stupid things sometimes. So does Noam Chomsky. The great thing about the United States is that people can say stupid things. Pat Robertson's ideas, freely expressed, will sink or swim. They're only words. ---- I don't take the rantings of people like Chavez and Castro personally but I can understand why some Americans might feel frustrated about what they hear. We Canadians get all the benefits of being American but we never have to assume any of the responsibilities. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You sir, are an insult to canada, your near fanatical statments backed up by little to no proof only show that you need professional help for you extremist hatred of anything American.
  17. your absolutely right. The right to bear arms is in place to protect us from our own government. and you know what? I like that. Regardless of what you think about our archaic law, it is our law. I would rather die on my feet then live on my knees.
  18. Being an American gunowner myself, i would fight to keep my guns. In the bill of rights it clearly states that private citizens have the right to own weapons, and more to the point to form militias in time of need. If the United Nations wants to send weapon inspectors here to see the disarming of America i hope he is wearing body Armor because every single freedom loving American will be trying to blow him off his/her door step. If you ever wanna see America internally implode, take away are right to weapons. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crime_and_guns i like wikipedia because it attempts to be neutral.
  19. Canadians (and others) regularly feel qualified to make pronouncements about American policies, I don't see why you can't tell us about Canada.well some of what canadians say is true, however there is alot of things that are inaccurate, halfaccurate, or just plain false that i see on this website, and the thing that i see the most is the loudest accusers of everything that is wrong with America are the ones who have visited it least. This is not geared towards anyone specifically, or even to just this website. Ive done a bit of international travel, and the misconceptions out there are just as bad as some of the misconceptions that ive heard state side. I digress, but what im trying to say is i have not spent enough time in canada in order to make any accurate judgments, and the few news resources i have tend to, shall we say, have differences of opinion.
  20. its always fascanating as an american to see politcs in Canada. My question that i would like to ask on this subject, as i will not venture an opinion on a country i have never lived in or make assumptions on it (wish some of you would behave that way), is Canada's provinces that serious about seperation? Perhaps to make it very simple on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the most dire, how would you rate the possibility that Alberta and Quebec will seperate from your confederation?
  21. Wow, were to even begin with this topic. Umm. Let me start by saying i live in North Carolina, however i am a transplated Northerner from Michigan. The south has racism no doubt, HOWEVER, there are more openly racist people in Michigan then i ever met in the South. Southern Blacks are some of the nicest, friendliest people you will ever meet, they dont hold a grudge against the white man, in Michigan many of the blacks, and i lived with one for a year and dated a black girl for a year, have a huge chip on their shoulders. without making a huge genralization, the attitude is "you enslaved us and you owe us." And to me thats just not right. In the south you do not see that attitude at all. Another thing, i live in one of the most deverse towns in the south, we have S. Americans, Africans, europeans, White Americans, Black americans, Asians (vietnamese and chinese), mexicans, etc. And you know what? everyone gets along very well. There is less race related hate crimes here then there is in New York city. You wanna talk about ignorance visit NYC. those people think if your not living there than you living in a cave. Someone Commited on North Carolina Drivers Liscense, I grabbed my recently renewed one and compared it to my Old Michigan drivers liscense. Can you guess what i found? NO race identifier on my NC DL, and RACE:White on my Michigan one. Dang that about blows up that argument (yes i know you were getting that info 2nd hand).
  22. granted that this may fail, this is still funny. The issue revolves around a case involving local governments purchasing homes and turning them over to private citizens so they can charge higher taxes and thus generate greater revenue for the community. well the supreme court ruled against some homeowners who took it to court, and consequently they lost their homes to redevelopment. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kelo_v._New_London Now a group of Real estate agents, and lawyers have got together and have put in a proposition to do the same thing to the members of the supreme court. personally i find this hilarous. read more on the link below. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lost_Liberty_Hotel
  23. wait you fail to realize is blackdog was probably smiling when he saw those picture, his hatred for the united states is near fanatical. History books are full of pictures of the dead and dying, (they are not as graphic as the ones shown on this insurgent site).... and they do have a shock value, they do show the price of war. You need to change the chanel, the media does cover all that you mentioned, Those pictures are much to graphic to be shown period.... and if its shock value you want why do we not show pictures of horrific traffic accidents put them on prime time so the families can really get a good image on what there spouse, father, mother, kids, looked like when they died...maybe we will all stop driving saving our resouces, and all those that die in traffic accidents.. They to are available on the on the intra net,and those that are to graphic should also be banned...and censored for the same reason... And you can...handle real violence....those soldiers will be honored given a military funeral, and buried by thier families....that is all that should happen they have paid the ultimate price and should not be asked to be used to further your cause.... Are you American or Canadian? reason i ask is you use "Tell them (we) are doing all (we) can to help Iraq." We as Canadians have a past time of throwing rocks at glass houses (what are Canadains doing to help the people of Iraq) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
  24. Then you'r enot loking hard enough. The IDF uses collective punishment, checkpoits curfews and, when necessary, violence to keep the population they occupy in check. As for the U.S. in Iraq (I speak specificaly of them because others-notably the British forces- have not resorted to the same heavy heandedness), I offer up the "pacification" of Fallujah, an operation that left hundreds of of civilians dead and thousands more homeless, as evidence of terrorism. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> barring irrational answers like "you dont" name a better way to execute a urban warfare.
  25. PATM: name a country that has more freedom than the united states please.
