  1. personelly, until there is a study done showing that children adopted by gay couples is somehow affected in a negative way, i dont see the problem, a parent is a parent, gay straight doesnt matter to me, as long as they are GOOD parents, thats what really counts.
  2. based on your feelings, i think there is a very good quote that will tell you why to pay attention to him. "keep you friends close, keep your enemies closer"
  3. whats to understand? i work, pay taxes, they give them to foreign countries. all we ask is that you buy medical goods or food or whatever it is your country specifically needs from the US. I dont see what the problem is here. Were helping them and they have zero right to bitch about the manner of aid that we give. think of it this way, if your dad loaned you 50 bucks and said you can have it but you have to mow the lawn later. would you then complain about it. Hell no, youd mow the lawn.
  4. wow im in shock. canada uses US court rulings as a basis for its own rulings? or did i read that wrong.
  5. i dont disagree with it, why shouldnt we make them pump it back into are economy its basically a form of paying us back. to be honest they are lucky to get anything at all. because we asked that you buy from US comanies AFTER you recieve your donation surprises you? regardless of what your opinion on that is, we are still giving the money, money that was made from american workers. also a quick question, are we basing this off soley governmental donations, or what companies donate as well?
  6. intresting topic. i disagree with you on the fact that American universities are "conservative" in nature many famous universities in America have departments that are borderline socialsist, such as the english department at havard. Now with that being said, there is a degree of conservatism being displayed which had not been previously exsistent. i think what you will find is that the administration of the universities and colleges is convservative more so then the academic employees. to me this makes sense because in America, College is a Business.
  7. i read through about roughly seven pages worth, some of you had some very valid points. some of you...well i just hope you dont quit your day job i grew up in michigan, detroit to be exact and its only a stones throw from the border of canada, so i spent alot of time in windsor toronto and montreal (btw i LOVE montreal) personally my experiences were mostly good, i dated a french canadian girl for a while, went to college with some people from up there. the one thing ive seen from you all is that elements of your societ y dislike us more than others, thats fine with most americains because elements of are own society dislike us too . My main concern that i have with my own country is the two party system, that is just ludicrous. And what is happening because of it is that in order to gain votes candidates have to be more and more extreme in there views, i catch alot of hell from people here, im considered a "fence sitter" (not that it overly bothers me) Personally hate america or not, any time you lump a whole culture of people into one opinion your just showing how dealthy afraid of yourself you are. because only a person with low self esteem would make a judgment about millions a people based on the actions of a few.
  8. so regardless of how much we send, if its not over .92 percent of are GNP we are pathetic? what logic you display. as it cleary states first in dollars 21st in percentage. that is clearly not last. A is A, A cannot B. How you come about your logic is beyond me. I find it amusing that you would get upset about the fact that we donate to are advantage, why wouldnt we? Austrailia was the largest donater after the tsunami and you know why? its one of there largest trading partners. Human nature is such that you will do things to your advantage. i find it striking that even though we dontate more cash money than any other country in the world its considred bad donors, i feel as an americain its like a child throwing a temper because they didnt get that toy they wanted at the store. maybe the world should appreciate what we do donate and not bash us for what we dont
  9. i generally stear clear if this argument for the simple fact that its one of morals and not necessarily fact or reason. i guess my personal opinion on the matter is "its a womens choice" only question i have is How does Roevs wade apply to canada?
  10. I truely believe that. I think that Bush knows that the US cannot afford a war with NK. His 'advisors' and military leaders know that they would have their lunches handed to them. strong possibility, my personal opinion is its not the NK they we are worried about its the Chinese.
  11. sigh...not are greatest moment here. i trully hope that we can turn this around, i believe in fair tade and Nafta must be maintained, i think we have taken are good realtionship with canada for granite, you have a right to be angry over this, and believe me your counterparts to the south arent all jumping on the bandwagon.
  12. i think a little history lesson must apply here. after world war 2 the british annexed the terrorty over to the jews, the day after, it was attacked by 4 differnet nations. The Jews in Israel are merely clingin to survival, do you realize what would happen if they did not have are backing? syria egypt jordan lebanon and any extremist from anywhere in the middle east would have slaughtered them wholesale. im sympathique to the jews for the simple reason that EVERY SINGLE DAY there country is under attack. and another thing, nobody is MAKING the palestines stay in those camps, they could pack up and move back in israel if they were going to live peacefully.
  13. Nope, not us but the Americans who voted him back in sure look stupid. intresting point of view. however, its clear to me that many of the people you linked are grasping at straws, theres no hard evidence to back it up and theres no "smoking gun" to say for sure. i find it curious that we would be considered "stupid" for doing what we think is best for are country. i know that when i go vote i dont sit in there and think "i wonder what canada will think" and im seriously doubting that you do as well. Another point, to call 60 million americains stupid because you dont agree with are presidential electe is rather "stupid"
  14. clearly democracy is not a miracle cure or a infallable institution, the statisitcs i beleive are based off of ALL deaths due directly to your a government that is what democide is. http://www.hawaii.edu/powerkills/20TH.HTM try this website, i know its not accurate thru 2004 but this will get you on the right track.
  15. n pure dollars the U.S. is the largest donor of foreign aid in the world. In 2003 the U.S. gave over $15 billion as measured by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). As a percentage of GNP, however, the U.S. ranks far down in the list of donors at number 21. That same $15 billion was .14% of the GNP in 2003. Norway, giving just over $2 billion in aid was the leading donor by percentage of GNP at .92% in 2003. This has prompted many (especially outside the U.S.) to say that the America should do more. A large number of polls, however, (search Foreign Aid here) indicate many Americans both overestimate the amount of aid we give as a percentage of GNP and feel that the amount is too large. so yes were are the largest donor of aid, if you go by percentage of GNP were 21st. which is not the lowest theres hundreds of countries out there. http://www.globalpolicy.org/finance/ The United Nations and all its agencies and funds spend about $10 billion each year, or about $1.70 for each of the world's inhabitants so now what your feeble intellect is unable to grasp. the united states gives the largest dollar amount of any country in the world. and i stand corrected are population is http://ask.census.gov/cgi-bin/askcensus.cf...fcGFnZT0x&p_li= 293,382,953 people
  16. excellent topic discussion. its my personal belief that this fight trancends many many years back to the first crusades, as a christian man i believe that there were to factors that set off the series of events. one was muslim expantion west and into africa which frightened Catholic leadership and also that kings and queens of old europe were unfortunetly influence by religious leadership. Its important to remeber CHRISTIANS invaded the middle east first. Now we can argue semantics on this all day but the reality of it was the first organized campaign was done by christian paladins. It saddens me to think of how much has been lost because of this, if you look at your history the middle east was the center of culture and wealth for many many years, if you compare it to today you can only shake your head in shame. Im a realistic person so i can honestly say that this fight will not die out in are lifetimes. it has passed from generation to generation for countless years and has taken on many form and will do so beyond my and your death
  17. funny thing about opinions and speculation: they are based on theoretical what ifs? theres no proper data to prove or disprove either theory. I for the sake of trade hope the European Union thrives, it will only benefit us here in the us by giving us a strong trustworthy business partner, that way we can move away from the chinese. i just dont want to see the european union become the next United Nations, leave it as a tool to promote economic growth.
  18. as opposed to who? canada? i dont think canada needs to lecture the US on humanitarian add as we give 4 to 5 times more add then the next closest country. and as far as your statistic you posted i didnt really see a source on that. Another thing to consider is we are a country of 340 million plus of course thats going to spread the average amount donated per person out. your stastistics are misleading
  19. i disagree with you on the premise of ignoring the united states is a foolish at best venture. the united states gives out more aid than any single country in the world, it also protects more countries then any other single country in the world, it also is the major funder of the corrupt united nations, which by the way most americains want to leave. As far as the irrelavency of bush as a man, sure who cares right? but dont confuse that with the relevancy of the power of the united states and are obvious will to use it.
  20. believe democracy does=peace now with that being said if you look at the amount of democide(sp) that exsist in different forms of government. for instance compare stalins russia to canadas parliment. the leverl of deaths due directly to the government is disportional greater in toltolitarian(sp) regimes. google in democide in communist countries, and then google democide in democratic countries, that will give several well written articles. so in essence if history is the median by which we judge foreign governments then yes democracy=peace
