No one is talking about making them part of the offensive chain, at this time, what i was talking about is them doing the law enforcement chain like fisheries patrol, maritime drug indication, stuff the navy does right now that is traditionally not Navy tasking but rather RCMP, and fisheries...And you don't need a huge naval gun to do that look at the AOP's it does the same missions but it does not have a huge main gun... It is simple then is it not, job descriptions and job skills change all the time, people adapt or find a new line of work...I'm sure like the Military there are tonnes of support roles that will not require any firearms training or more law enforcement taskings. not all CG personal just want to tend buoys for the rest of their career.... Liberals are studying just that as they have said, looking at arming the CG...no timeline nothing else was mentioned... Then you only prove this was done to enhance accounting measures only...a way to increase our GDP % without doing anything of real value....But the liberals did say they are considering arming them and giving them added responsibilities...which could be taking a active role in fisheries patrols, drug interdiction, perhaps even getting more investments into the department...and in order for them to do that they will be asked to step up.... CG is already part of the security apparatus, in the future they may play a bigger part, nobody is suggesting they be part of the NAVAL kill chain.

If they can teach a bunch of navy wogs, how to operate a C-9, or C-6 i'm sure CG personally will be fine.... And i'm sure if the Army can train the RCMP, Air force, and Navy on how to operate C-7 rifles they can train any one to use them effectively...enough for them to take non traditional navy jobs off our Navy's plate and giove the CG more roles to play, which might even play into more investment into the CG... They may not have been designed for war ships, but 3 NFLDS in a row boat armed with shotguns is a war ship...and while i don't think they will ever get to see naval warfare....they can be used to patrol for drugs , illegal fishing, other criminal activity that the Navy does right now... And while the liberals are considering arming the CG, nothing has been decided as of yet, They may not be warriors, but they sure can be another arm of law enforcement...

Agreed, but when your starving any little bit is welcomed....i can see investments into infra structures, but ammo and spare parts should be protected assets and be investments that are constant, not much good if your equipment can't run due to lack of spares, and well ammo speaks for itself, there must be some neglect their somewhere. True, but Canada has taken great care NOT to arm the coast guard, and pretty much limit their role in what they do...I just hope the government decides to arm them and expand their role , which will take some pressure of the Navy ie fishery patrols, drug interdiction, etc...i hope they increase their budget as well, if you think the forces are struggling , wade into the coast Guard budget...it's sad really...

Major liberal announcement on spending on our military...while this is great news, i'm hoping this is just the beginning 9 extra bil is not going to go far, i mean the projects they are looking for are pay raises, new PMQ and housing projects, other infra struture projects as many military infrastructure are way past it's due date, also purchasing spare parts for existing equipment......those projects alone could take more than 9 bil....Not to mention all the shortfalls just in regards to capabilities we have lost or let go, to replacing very old equipment. I guess we will have to see where the NATO submit brings in regards to the new levels being set as we speak to 3.5 % of gdp on pers and equipment, and 1.5 % on infrastructure... Carney has already hinted he is not going to commit to these new numbers...

The goal was to reach 2.5 million barrels a day...or 55 bil a year more in national revenue....The energy corridor is still in the planning phases with all provinces contributing something...to that idea...So ya the idea is that the ROC will be doing something....You make it sound like BC does not benefit in any way from increasing our national revenue...what is the point of this entire project if one province is going to veto another provinces projects...no wonder we can't get anything done in this country, everyone has their own agenda...

I would love to see the east coast get a pipeline...but the easiest project to complete at this time is another pipeline to tide water on the west coast...and all you have right now is excuses, to hold up this energy corridor....or pointing fingers at other provinces...according to the media it represents 50 bil a year profits for the nation.... To be honest this dream of a energy corridor is a mission impossible, Canadians don't want to cooperate to build....most of the premiers do support it, but for the citizens they are still asking what is in it for me.....it's to bad it is one liberal plan/ project that made sense, it would be a great first step in uniting the country for all Canadians...not just a few select provinces...and instead of spending tax dollars on needless liberal projects this is something for all Canadians...
