  1. If former French colonies are all EU members, that means Canada is in ! Yippee, now I can finally get that Citroen......
  2. How is that a problem? If Quebec , for example, separated they'd have numerous countries aligned and recognizing in hours. Countires like Iran and Syria would leap at the chance. Serbia too, any oppostrtunity for payback would be welcome.

  4. I understand your premise, and I'm telling you that it is incorrect. They can be whatever they decide, and their voting process is theirs to determine legitimacy. Nobody asked Moscow for permission when the USSR dissolved and many soverign states were created or emerged. Kosovo did not ask Serbia for permission more recently when they declared their unilateral independence. Lets pretend your wife announces: I'm leaving. Will your response be to drag out your wedding vows, where you both promised devotion for perpetuity, and insist they apply and she cannot leave, all the while speaking to the back of the door through which she has exited? Later, you sit alone at home proclaiming you're stilll married while she is in Cancun banging the poolboy....... We came that close to division of Canada in 1996 when the Worst PM in Canadian History, Mr Chretien, sat on his hands until it nearly happened.
  5. I don't think the New Sovereign State will spend 2 seconds worrying about what Canada or New Brunswick thinks or does? Consent will be given by the citizens of the Sovereign State, a few foreign countries will acknowledge it and ... it is done. Why would any state ackowledge the authority of the state they have just left? Ever wonder why the separatistes always contend that there will be a Declaration of Independence immediately after a 'yes' vote? Wonder no more. It is no idle threat, it is the only logical move and it would be successful for a new country flushed with nationalist fervour. The Clarity Act is a sop to Canada, not legisaltion that anybody serious would think will have the slighetst effect on deterring separation. Canada may belive that it sets out the terms of negotiation, but that is part theater and part wishful thinking. Unless you think the feds will order in the troops and start shooting. "Please sir, may I leave now?" Yeah, right.
  6. How do they compare with the flipflops on same sex marriage by Stephan Dion, Paul Martin, Jean Chretien and nearly the entire Loberal caucus? Verifiable, voting record-in-the -Commons flip flops?
  7. Everybody stuffed intoi a little stereotypical pigeonhole in your tiny proscribed universe.... does it get claustrophobic in there? I am touched by the faith in the Clarity Act here...... just wondering, but how much credence do you think that the separating state - not a province, but New Soverign State- will ascribe to an Act of some other government that they are no longer a part of? "Hello, this is Canada and I insist we negotiate on the terms of the Clarity Act!" "Right, call back when you change your tone of voice. We are busy"
  8. I come bringing great news for you. Assuming you are a pregnant woman, you may exercise each and every one of those choices and parameters right now, today! However, you do not have and never will have the right to impose your will on another adult. Nor will I. The universe is unfolding as it should.
  9. The most hardcore, evangelical, Bible thumping, fire-and-brimstone loving person in recent Canadian poltics is not Harper. It is Tommy Douglas.
  10. I have enjoyed watching the left continually promote themselves as The Progressives. It is actually a very smart thing to do, since it implies that their opponents are therefore The Regressives. They took their semantic cue from the ProLife groups. If you aren't ProLife, you are automatcially ProDeath...... Anyway, hats off the the left for the Progressive campaign, it is a clever bit of misdirection..
  11. Assuming that Harper loses his mind and makes Senate reform a big priority..... Can the Senate be abolished by a majority vote in the Commons, or majority votes in both the Commons and Senate, or none of the above? Jack Layton would be obliged to vote with the Tories on this subject, so the Commons majority would be likely......... In a couple of years,if Harper is still around, there may well be a Tory majority in the Senate too..........
  12. You have to give this line up, because again you are wrong. All residential mortgage lenders in Canada - there are at least 65 including GMAC and the banks- operate under the same rules. On their own, they can lend only 80% of the appraised value or sale price(whichever is less) of the home. Period. No exceptions. CMHC then insures and allows the lending of up to a further 15%. The cost of that insurance is borne entirely by the homeowner. The banks and GMAC have the same 'protection', which is basically none beyond the insured amount.
  13. More errant nonsense. GMAC follows exactly the same rules as every other mortgage lender in Canada. They are bound by the Bank Act and CMHC requirements, which apply equally to every lender.
  14. Untrue. All MPs and senators and others are required to swear this oath: That includes Bloc MPs who are required to take this oath and do just that.
  15. Wrong-o. The bailout request made by GM to Congress on November 17 was no surprise and had been talked about for months. In Canuckistan, McGuinty had been yapping about it for months, well before the fiscal update on Nov 27.
  16. we both know that Alberta separatism is a myth, and supported by very few. Only one of us will acknowledge that reality. Creds: I'm born, raised and currently reside in AB.
  17. Wopw, what a complete and thorough misunderstanding of what is actually going on in Canadian hearts and minds....please keep thinking that way while we pray that the coalition does bring down Harper immediately, ASAP, pronto.... By the way, Harper does want power. So do all the other Party leaders, that is why they lead their parties.......
  18. They would be crazy not to, the long time provincial strategy of divide and conquer at the federal level has been spectacularly successful for Quebec for decades. As a result, we now have every province/region noting that success and trying to outgreed Quebec. Why wouldn't they, if you want the gravy train to stop in your province you have to play hardball. Something of a sad state of affairs IMO.
  19. Yeah, the bad mans of the Tory party are making seniors who have big incomes pay for drugs, while forcing poor seniors to take them for free. Scandalous.
  20. How can you dispute the appointment of Frank Mahovolich?
  21. Yet the judge - any Canadian judge- can dismiss the proceedings at any time when he determines the case has no merit. If it's a waste of time and money, why hasn't he done so? And... a careful reading of your link indicates that the judge is chastising the plaintiffs counsel for milking his client, not commenting on the overall quality of the plaintiffs case. If he thought it was bogus, he can drop it forthwith and would. This effort is not up to your usual level of spin. Try again.
  22. It all fits into the Martin/Chretien Offical Lone Gunman Stance on Adscam: Rogue Bureaucrat Chuck Guite, acting completely independently and without the knowldege or support of a single MP, Cabinet Minister or the PM decided one day to give away $300 million for no particular reason. He hit the Montreal Yellow Pages and picjked a bunch of ad agencies at random and sent them checques, big ones. Everybody was suprised! Later it turns out that all the recipients were friends of the Liberal Party, who oddly received no benefit at all from Chucks largesse.. Even more surprise!
  23. Would you deny the plaintiff due process?
