Will Canada's Flag Carrying Airline Survive?
fellowtraveller replied to Smallc's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Excellent. WestJet can easily lease some planes from the carcass of Air Canada to meet the demand. -
Not quite. Any transfer of Radio Canada to an exclusively Quebec ownership would also inclusde the annual trabsfer of a few hundred million dollars every year too. Welcome to Canada

Why do you continue with the pretence that you are anything but a profound Liberal hack? Do you think you are fooling anybody with this nonsense?

Is there a specific reason Progressive Tory is continually allowed to span this forum with post after post after post in succession? The creature has little to add in the first instance, then answers its own post with another, then another.....

Hmmm, I had read that Intelligence has very strong foreign sales. CBC started out as an instrument of policy intended to inform and unite our country. Now it is having the opposite effect, becoming a beacon of dissent and disharmony.

Harper Working on Scrapping the Gun Registry!
fellowtraveller replied to wulf42's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
It does not matter what Harper does or does not do with the gun registry, same with the opinions of other policitians. There are hundreds of thousands of normally law abiding citizens who have ignored it from day one and will continue to ignore it no matter what. I know of groups of a hundred hunters with nary a single registered weapons who buy all their ammo through a single person, the spouse of one. She has negotiated a very good price becuase of volume purchases. Everybody including the cops knows the story, no action now or ever. Nobody cares, nobody gets prosecuted. -
Homophobic slurs now? For Shame...... I have never found out why the CBC canned the excellent series 'Intelligence'. Anybody know?

Massive Conservative $85 Billion Dollar Deficit
fellowtraveller replied to madmax's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
It makes me puke to see Manitoba mentioned in the same breath as any kind of fiscal prudence. They suck a few extra billion out of their neighbours every year for their very existence, then crow about saving some of it? It is like stealing your Grandmothers welfare cheque out of her purse then laughing as she buys cat food for dinner. -
so what. We have not had the wholesale dysfunction of Italy.
-
Italy has had proprep for a long time, and has had about 60 governments since WW11.

Massive Conservative $85 Billion Dollar Deficit
fellowtraveller replied to madmax's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
It is irrelevant if you're grafting the welfare. It is very relevant if you're the ones paying. When are you deadbeats going to get off your asses and support yourselves? Or better yet, contribute somethng to the country overall? And yes, I know how equalization works so I know as long as you keep yourselves well below national averages, you can suck on the national teat forever. How convenient in these tough times. Convenient for you. It is shocking that a province with the resources of Manitoba tolerates itself. -
Massive Conservative $85 Billion Dollar Deficit
fellowtraveller replied to madmax's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Manitoba gets 20% of its annual operating costs as welfare/equalization payments. Without the largesse/support of the federal government, they'd be in massive deficit. So would all the other 'have not' provinces. The only provinces that mnatter in this OP question are Alberta, BC, Sask and Ontario. All the rest are effectively in deficit, all the time. AB will have a small deficit this year, but with no debt will easily weather the storm. They are in the middle of a massive $20 billion+ infrastructure program unrelated to the federal stimulus plans. Stelmach is now talking abouyt borrowing for even more infrastructure now, when AB can leverage its excellent credit rating into getting loans for around 1.5%. If they wait until the economy recovers and oil prices increase, the cost of money will have increased too. -
Stephen Harper and the problems of conservatism
fellowtraveller replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
That right- to appoint the Party Faithful- is reserved exclusively for Liberals in this country. The nerve of this man to challenge the Liberal birthright! -

That is really stretching reality. Pot smokers are not 'rebellious', the majority are middle class baby boomer working people who just like to get a buzz on once in a while. The worm turned 30 years ago. It is and will be utterly unenforceable. If they did drug testing 1/3 of the cops and 90 % of the Crown prosecutors and judges would not pass -

Your paranoia is more typical of meth users than pot smokers. It is riduclous that anybody goes to jail for smoking weed. It is ridiculous that Crown prosecutors or cops will pursue charges. They don't have the time, money and above all the will to bother when there are people being shot routinely on the streets of our cities. It's that simple. You caqn rant and roar, but there it is. In a legal sense, the Crown side will get themselves in major trouble if they prosecute selectively, charging only when embarassed. They know that. Enforcement will be feeble at worst, nonexistent the rest of the time. As it is now. The reason is that far, far too many ordinary taxpaying people already ignore the law and will continue to do so. -

All quite rational. However, now we know that a vote for Jack is also a vote for Gilles. And Michael. But not for Stephen. I appreciate the Coalition for clearing all that up for the Canadian electorate. It makes the choices so much easier. -

Nah, none of that will happen. The cops won't enforce the new law any more than they enforced the old one. Nopne of the millions of Candians who currently enjoy the odd joint will stop. It is a dumb law and will be ignored and unenforced, just like the last one. That's the problem with stupid rules and laws- eventually ordinary people act out civicl disobedience in sufficient numbers make it pointless. The civil disobedience surrounding casual pot usage took decades-from the 60s to now- to get to this point, where millions of Canucks smply ignore it, and thousands of cops are quite happy to igniore it too. That won't be altered much if at all with any legislation. -

Actually as an MP he should be for his constituents first. As a Minister he should put his country first, though of course he was not a Minister then. Who can ever forget Ignatieffs well documented references to 'we Americans"? -
Harper has not given anything yet, and we have just learned in the last couple of days that all of GMs assets are already attached by the US govt. Doies Iggy or you want the federal govt to donate billions in completely unsecured assets? Iggy wants an accounting of ...what? The nothing spent so far? He is one of the many who howled that not enough was planned to support the auto industry, which way would you have it now?
-
Harper has no problem accounting as it is dispensed, Iggy wants to approve every dime as it is dispensed, which means no action. I think we need an election.

No , the real issue is: will any law regarding personal marijuana use or possession be respected by millions of middle class Canadians? Answer: no. So why bother? -

News flash: Canadians will have the same amount of respect for whatever laws exist on weed as they have always had: none. -
Ignatieff is reluctant to allow the government to spend $3 billion of the money he has been howling to be released for infrastructure programs, yet is content for $6 billion to be plowed into auto manufatcurers that is completely unsecured money....... Hypocrite

Do you think Satan is involved too? The potency of weed is in proprtion to the amount of THC. Crap weed is low in it, strong stuff is high in it. Ypou can attach any kind of romance you want to the good old days, but the weed grown today in a grow op in Lumby is much stronger than some draft dodgers in the 70s growing some ragweed in the Slocan valley. But the biggest change is in the people involved in the distribution business, they are much more dangerous and much better organized now. -

It is not done yet. The Tories will use the coalition as a prominent part of the next election campaign, which will be as soon as possible from their viewpoint. We will see many reproductions of those iconic photos of Jack, Gilles and Stephan grinning and shakinghands.... Many repetitions of the mantra that a vote for Liberal is also a vote for NDP and Bloc, a vote for Jack is a vote for Gilles.....
