  1. It won't be a transfer either. and the Twin Cities are twice the size of winnipeg,a hotbed of hockey in USA, and they still failed once. he is rich , not stupid. And... it is not his decsion to just get to transfer a teram if and when he pleases. Ask Jim Balsillie about this reality.
  2. The you can name the person who has offered to pay a monster expansion fee to start a new team in Winnipeg. You are not getting a transfer team. If you were, you'd have had your choice of at least six already. I already explained that, see above. The question you should ask yourself is why isn't Phoenix anywhere other than Phoenix? Answer: there is nowhere left to go, except Southern Ontario which can very, very easily take an expansion team with somebody willing to pay big dollars that go straight into owners pockets. Same for all the other failed franchises littering the map of America. By the way, the revenue from expansion ios not part of the CBA, they get to keep the cash. The last thing they need is another team on life support, they have way too many of those already. You are also a small and failed market, not a new market. Their only possible course of new revenue is from expansion teams. I wish you the very best of luck with getting an NHL team back in Winnipeg. But.... if you put down money on season tickets, make sure it is held in trust by somebody reputable.
  3. These threads are always revealing, interesting what crawls out from under the rock when race is involved.
  4. What the NHL owners want - and remember that the NHL is not empty promises from Gary Bettman, it is an assembly of businessment with profit on their minds- is money, more money. Where in the world can they get a $200-$300 million expansion fee?. Not Winnipeg, not Quebec, nowhere except Southern Ontario, which is the only underserved NHL market in North America, Why on earth would the NHL agree to transfer a failing team into another marginal market and nobody gets any cash? That is why Balsillie failed, twice: he could pick up a team for relatively cheap, transfer the frqanchise for free into a real market, and avoid an expansion fee altogether, and not just a normal fee. The next Canadian team will be in Southern Ontario, and it will come when somebody ponies up the big bucks. so what? The economy in Saskatoon is vibrant, varied and more likely to make money for investors.
  5. I admire you eagerness to fantasize about getting another NHl franchise, after blowing the last one. But it is not going to happen. Example: "Economics don't have that much to do with it as I've demonstrated" Money is everything. If you want a vibrant economy in the future, Saskatoon would be a better pick than Winnipeg, but it ain't gonna happen there either. Yes, it is, you're about 3000 seats, many luxury boxes, tons of ancillary revenue short of making it.Remember, $8K to $20K+ per year for a pair of season tickets, year after year after year win lose draw good or bad economy you must sellout the building at premium prices. You are wrong, Winnipeg is last in the group of three, dead last. The first will be southern Ontario, there is a onetime fatso payoff there for the league, they can get a franchise fee of at least $200 million or more there. Think Winnipeg can pony that up? Think anybody can e3xcept Hamilton and area? The NHL won't pass that payday by, why would they allow anybody to relocate to anywhere for free before cashing in on that one time only gravy train?Good luck with your dream, but let us get real.
  6. How so? Refugees start out as a drain, then become economic assets. The bulk are actual immirgarnts and arrive here with skills, education and often money. Many Canadians could not possibly pass the qualifications to emigrate to their own country, and these people do. Maybe you are referring to immigrants to Quebec, who are selected first because they speak French?
  7. That is timely, I was just reading job ads in an Edmonton paper and several said a prerequiste was that you must be fluent in English. I don't think I'd ever seen that before. Would you like a career in aprtment building management, housing included, several openings and your wife would have a job too?
  8. agreed. Immigrants have been and will remain the lifeblood of the economy.
  9. Japan is probably the worst example to use in the developed world, few countires hate immigrants or foreigners in general than Japan, which is why they allow so few.
  10. If your economy is in such good shape, why does Manitoba collect monstrous equalization payment year after year after year after decade? And have you noticed that not only is Winnipeg richer, the salaries have roughly quadrupled since you last had a team you cannot support? The NHl must also wonder at the commitment of a city that wants a NHL team so badly that they built a big new arena that is too small for an NHL team. The NHL won't be back, you better get used to it.
  11. You could peel the 'Save the Jets' sticker off the K car and put that on instead.
  12. Winnipeg won't get a team because it is becoming ever more obvious that the NHL needs to contract, not extablish more teams in more cities that cannot support them. There is not enough money in Winnipeg to have an NHL team, period. Last night I went to the Oilers Game(an excellent one too for a change, a friend gave me his ciorpoarte tickets. They were $235 each, with parking and drink/burger call it $500 for the pair. One game. Season ticket cost, over $20k for the year excluding preseason and playoffs. I don't believe many people/vbusinesses in Winnipeg could sustain that year after year.
  13. Saskatchewan managed to maintain their culture by exporting so many people to Alberta, which reduced social costs, which meant they did not need quite so much in equalization payments.Don't you love the symmetry?
  14. I implied nothing, the parent himself stated how the child spends his time.
  15. Indeed, who does need oil when you control the banking, manufacturing and trade of the country for over a century and oblige your 'partners' to the East and West to pay bloated prices for crap machinery indefinitely?
  16. Correct. And the new seats in the Commons will try to fix the wretched imbalances there, but cannot go all the way to correcting it all and ensuring that Candians everywhere have equal representation in their govt. Just two more examples of why our government does not and cannot work in its present form. It is broken, and we simply cannot fix it.
  17. maybe you could hire somebody to take him for a walk or play catch with him.
  18. MLW, for example, does not permit hate speech and has no need at all for 'pre-moderation' A political forum where I used to moderate does not 'pre-moderate', posts can be read after and deleted, and the poster can be disciplined if necessary. I doubt that is the reason for pre-moderation at CBC. The purpose is censorship, of course. Babble does the same thing, but after the fact.
  19. here is a partial answer: I bet they are.
  20. OP, thanks for the tip on CBC. I'll scamper over there ASAP and see if that pot can be stirred. Do you know if they have the same level of 'no dissent from Party line allowed' moderating as they do at Rabble/Babble?
  21. I'd give it asn average rating overall. It had a surprisingly weak soundtrack, usually he does excellent soundtracks. I hopoe Tarantino picks it up a bit, Death Proof was rubbish and this one is not up to snuff either.
  22. I cannot believe nobody has trotted out the North American Union schtick yet. Oh, I just did.
  23. Too late, it is effectively already done. Canada no longer really operates as an East west place, each region fights like a wolverine for a bigger share at the trough and trades north-south. We have Balkanized ourselves, and federal provincial relationships and especially province to province relationships will get increasingly bitter. Who will speak for Canada?
  24. How quickly you forget Adscam or the business shenanigans of Chretien or the odd business of Mr Schreiber.. I understand why that is necessary, you world view can't survive too much of that. The problem is not corruption though, it is lack of effective representation - and if you blow that off you are hinting at fascism.
