  1. I think the question lacks depth.
  2. You know we use 'whinge' and 'whingers' here in Australia. It had never occured to me that the words would not be in common use in other english speaking nations such as Canada or the US. Kind of interesting. Pocketrocket, we pronounce it: win - j (as in jar) - er (as in her). To sum up win-j-er
  3. I quote this from Dec 2 2004, 06:41 PM Emphasis mine. Maybe people think I'm being a stickler but I do think I was patient before making a point of it. I also realise that 'promise' is too strong a term.
  4. Dear All, And where did I ask for increased moderation? I asked for a clarification of the rules and guidelines which is a completely different thing. I would also point out that Greg PROMISED TO DO SO and never did. Which is why I raise this point.
  5. Or perhaps start a thread in support or questions? Picking an example at random... one could start a thread asking what the requirements regarding sources and the providing of evidence may be. On the other hand that may not work so well.
  6. I give up.
  7. I don't know about anybody else but on some posts I see the text has been replaced with an email icon and the rest is blank. Is this only happening to me?
  8. On the contrary I remember the thread well and had a bit of a chuckle myself. Even though we all know that he really meant 'nostrums'.
  9. The pages loaded for me Eureka. You need to have Adobe reader to be able to read the PDF files. If you have a dial up connection (like me) then you need to be very patient and wait for it all to load before reading.
  10. I agreed. The difficulty, I feel, lies in distinguishing between the two.
  11. In fact I may aswell quote the translations here and save others the effort. Source: Google Language Tools
  12. August, google is not a great way to translate. For example if you translate "Wow you are really hot" from English to French, then paste the French translation and translate from French to English you end up with, "Defect of the sound reproduction you are really hot". Still I'll give it a go.
  13. A possible Simpsons reference? Isn't one of those evil aliens named Kang?
  14. I stand by my post. Your comment could very easily be interpreted in that light. It is certainly not difficult to interpret as an attack on character. If you did not mean it that way then perhaps you should take greater care in the way you construct your posts. It is still difficult for me to believe, when reading the question, that it was not meant in such a way.
  15. Any progress on this?
  16. Additonally, caesar, yes there are people who think Australia is one of the best countries in the world. There are people all over the world who would like to live here or holiday here. There is alot more to the entity known as Australia then its involvement in Iraq. You viewpoint seems to be very narrow and weighted inordinately to recent events in the middle east. What about Australias involvement in liberating East Timor (putting us very firmly on al Quaedas hit list), or our massive donations to Indonesia after the tsunami, or our various other humanitarian efforts? What about our friendly culture and pleasant weather? I'm not going to say to you that Australia is the Best Nation on Earth (although I love it above all others) but it has as much right to that claim as Canada or the United States or many other nations. There is good and bad everywhere. Why don't you try to view Australia on balance instead of through a narrow, agenda biased perspective?
  17. Is this a serious question? Are you asking me to name one country, apart from Canada, that people may consider to be the best in the world? Can you not come up with ANY yourself? If you can not that would seem, to me. to be incredibly arrogant.
  18. It is interesting to note that after playing Grant Theft Auto San Andreas I had to overcome an urge while driving in real life to speed down rail tracks, run over pedestrians, fire up my non-existent nitros, ram other cars, fire randomly at people and cars and, last but not least, to steal other vehicles. I better avoid playing Jedi Starfighter or I will end up attempting take off in my car.
  19. Well just to bring up what came to mind within the first few seconds of reading this statement. You don't think that maybe the English despise the French more? Or that the Pakistani's and Indians hate each other more? Or that the northern Irish hate the English more? And so on and so forth. Riiiight. While I am sure that there are many people around the globe who share that sentiment I am just as certain that there are many others who feel as strongly about other nations. Yes and Australia is chiefly responsible for the development of NASA and is the chief architect of all scientific advancement ever... This just gets better. I'm sure the deterrence presented by US military power is insignificant when compared to the defensive role Canada provides the US. In closing I suppose I shouldn't be ignoring my own advice about feeding trolls. I'll have to make this a last.
  20. I agree. I believe we should all be careful to debate each others arguments rather then taking shots at each other. I realise that to a certain extent members will end up making digs at each other but the question "What are you; someone who like to look at naked young girls?" could be taken as an insinuation of paedophilia. Placed in context I don't think WageSlaves comments could possibly be interpreted in this light.
  21. Clearly, caesar, kimmy does respect you by virtue of association with important historical events. Seriously it looked like it was just a joke. Also seriously - her points anre well researched and presented. I do not believe that she is ignorant or arrogant. Rather I believe she understands how to research and evaluate information and evidence. If she thinks her arguments are better then yours that does not necessarily make her arrogant - or at least not if she is clearly presenting a superior argument whilst incorporating responses which indicate she is listening to and evaluating the arguments of others. Kimmy does those things.
  22. Perhaps I don't have a financial mind. In fact there is no doubt about it - I don't. To me more tax is more tax. I don't see how anybody would be paying less tax or receiving a free education. For anyone interested there is information for the system on this student support website.
  23. How did you reach that conclusion?
  24. Australia has, or rather had a system called HECS (Higher Education Contribution Scheme). The system has been renamed and revamped this year but for the purposes of what I'm describing is the same. Any student who is accepted into University can defer, in part or in whole, their fees to the Commonwealth (Federal government). The Commonwealth then pays the fees up front to the university and the student will owe the same to the government (tax free and index linked). That debt is then payable whenever the individual begins earning over a certain amount and is paid automatically out of increased tax on the income. Perhaps this system could work in Canada?
  25. Kimmy, you should study psychology. You have the mindset for it. I encourage you to explore this avenue.
