Canada's cold shoulder to U.S.
ft.niagara replied to Stoker's topic in Canada / United States Relations
I am trying to be "nice" because this is a canadian forum, but how do you know there was no evidence of their being guilty of ANYTHING? Those nasty Americans put them there because they did not like the way the combed their hair. Oh, and the group hug got us here: Beheading I guess since you can call me sick and ignorant, I am allowed to call you healthy and smart. Got to be careful of those Canadian content laws, eh. -

I have posted mostly on www.bearpit.net. There is a fellow there who calls himself KeepCanadaFree. He is of course liberal, and has the worst language skills, spelling on down. I asked him why he did not post on a canadian forum and he said that the RCMP monitored the canadian boards and he wanted one not monitored. You can go there, and check out his past posts if anyone is interested. -

Actually, I kind of enjoyed the pictures. Those fellows were there because they were bad. They were not there because they were in the Iraq military, but because they were bad guys. Maybe a bomber or two. I really liked the naked group hug. They needed a little bonding time. Is that the torturing you refer to? Your civil Canadian attitude is certainly understandable. Canadians are just so "nice". (See Post by Argus above) -

The left are just closet antisemite. You can not call them that because they are liberal, and liberal is supposed to be by definition projewish. Actually, they are schizophrenic, they are this one day, and that the next. -

I wasn't talking to you, I was talking to the other guy, but you two seem to be the two biggest USA bashers here. I suggest you read the article because it deals with more than bragging rights, it basicly calls Canada a nation of pussies. -

Is that what your arguement boils down to, you are smarter and more mature than I am? Go dislike Bush, I don't give a crap, but he is no tyrant, and he is not dangerous to world peace. World peace has been broken, and he was not the one to break it. -

Terrorists were found resident in his country. He supported Palestinian suicide bombers by giving bomber families money for job well done. He used the gas on the Kurds. This is probably not useful, because you hate America, and you just love crafting your arguements to bash her. Go have fun. What did you think of the olympics article? It might give you a taste of your own medicine. -

Canada and the Olympics This is somewhat off topic but it is from Fox which I know you guys do not get up there (because of content laws) comparing Canada with Australia in the olympics. Canada has 30 mil, and Australia 20 mil. -

A bit simplistic I would say. "That war to save democracy" was not likely to spread to the United States. It was a European war, and it created the United States that you know today. It was unlikely that even Britain would have fallen without the United States. Russia would have probably taken Germany by itself, or at least stalemated it. Germany would have consolitated Europe into an early EU, or Europe would have become a Russian puppet. In any event, WWII Europe was unnecessary to the US. As far as the enforcement of the Monroe Doctrine, Britain did nothing to help the US, it did what was best for Britain. It did not want French or Spanish influence in North America, I would think. The US is not butchering anyone. Saddam was asked to leave, nicely and the answer was no. The country was taken with minimum distruction. All this villification of the US for trying to innoculate the country with democracy, and villification from the 1940s for not doing enough to preserve democracy. I think there is some hypocracy there. Did Britain not try to spread democracy throughout the world? The war was justified on two fronts, first the country harbored and supported terrorism, and it was thought that there was WMD. The fact that there was none found does not make anyone a liar. It is bogus BS, and you know it. If it were a lie, alot of people were in on it. He used WMD, and supported terrorism. Refute it. Once the country was taken, Lybia gave up its WMD, and there will be no more Saddam killing fields. Yes, you did send soldiers to Afghanistan. Some of your soldiers did die from friendly fire after they were mistaken for enemy because they were doing nightfire exercises with tracers in Afghanistan????? Bush's question about UN relevance has merit. If it makes pronouncements, enforce them, or do not make them. When it comes to the security of the country, the UN has no veto. France has no military. Like Canada, it knows it does not need one. WWI, and WWII proved that. They do a rope a dope and someone will come to the rescue. There are terrorists in Canada. One of your own citizens wrote a book about it. I do not recall the name, but he has been interviewed on radio here. If there people do not support their government, why is it that they have not been voted out? -

I have a hard time understanding Canada's position, and I have tried. Your flag flies in the center of Buffalo. Both national anthems are played at hockey games???? The balance of trade is in your favor. You spend nothing for national defense because you know you do not have to. Our national anthem was booed at a Canadian game. Someone on this board said that the US only got into WWII only after attacked, I presume complaining because Canada was pulled in first because of England. Go figure, complain when US goes to war, and complain when it doesn't go to war. Your PM Cretian was so antiamerican, members of his cabinet were quoted making rediculous statements about our President. You have Canadian content laws which disallows American publications because they are not Canadian, go figure that. And on and on. On the issue of Iraq, forgetting that no WMD were found, there was more than reasonable expectation that they would be. Forget about lieing, that is bogus. New York was attacked, and 3000 people died, and Canada did not help. All the other english speaking contries in the world of importance helped except Canada, even a little. Canadians have an identity crisis. They do not want to be Americans, and in their attempt to not be Americans, as if that is a good thing, they seem to want to antagonize also. -

Buddy yourself, When it involves the security of the country, what is this international democracy. No one elected the United Nations to be the international government. Go loose whatever respect you claim to have now, so much BS really. You experienced to a small degree what a bioterror attack would be like: SARS. The US was your best friend then. The CDC said it was ok to go to Toronto when the WHO said no. If the event were ever proven intentional, what would Canada have done? Probably nothing. Ask the US for help. Let the US take care of it. And the most hated country in the world is bogus. It is kind of like bringing out the hack Nazi, Antisemite, Homophobe labels when your mind moves to idle. Mindless bullcrap, but in your case, the sad thing is they probably teach it in the schools up there. -

Beichman's opinion column was, taken in its entireity, garbage, I'll grant you that. As an American, this is all about perspective, and Mr. Beichman's column was not garbage, you seem to have agreed with most every point, and certainly has provoked alot of self analysis here. I am glad to see that there is not only the one sided hate America stuff I would have expected. I live in Buffalo, and I think your people are very nice when I visit, but when your government speaks, over the years it has been antiamerican in my view. Perhaps the French influence? ------------------------ As far as Israel, that could and should be covered in a different thread. Should Israel Exist? could be its title. -
Peace Process. Ireland has for many years has been a Roman Catholic Theocracy which has been changing. I suspect the Northern Ireland non Catholic Unionists just do not want to be part of that form of government. The IRA does not want no for an answer, so they use terrorism, in fact they are the fathers of it. The IRA has been quiet for the moment because terrorism has gotten a bad name, but you have peace now, enjoy it.

If voting for Kerry, what's your reason?
ft.niagara replied to tooliscrowned's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Mr Farris. I assume you are American and you are ashamed that the US is hated by almost everybody in the world. This board seems to be too civil for me to give you my true feelings about that statement. You live in such a country because there were people in the past who felt strong enough about something to fight for it. Is there anything you would be willing to fight for? -
Was The War in Iraq Necessary

As an American I appreciate your kind words. No country is immune to problems. Substitute the word bioterrorism with SARS and Canadians should be able to understand when your country is attacked. -

I am an American, and I am voting for Bush. I feel that Bush has acted in the best self interest of the US which is what he was commissioned to do. And talking about bad leaders, that Cretien was a doozy. -
Gay vs. Animal Marriage?

Certainly, is homosexual marriage is to be made legal, then polygamy should be allowed. And if it is allowed, then group marriage should be allowed. The possibilities are endless. -
Here we go again - Quebec Independence
ft.niagara replied to maplesyrup's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
It sounds like you are a one world government type. Indeed, perhaps that will be in the future. Europe seems to be going in that direction. The only thing that has to be worked out is language, religion, etc. I think it is a long time before there is one world government. It might be more efficent, but those little differences translate into big differences. -

ft.niagara replied to maplesyrup's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
I enjoyed reading your reply. I see it was your first posting and that you wrote with passion. If I may, I think your reply went something like this: When Canada was formed, the French speaking wanted a confederation, and the English speaking wanted a federation. They got a False Confederation. My dictionary defines confederation and federation as meaning the same thing, so I will substitute strong vs weak central government. There is too much central control of the money, and the tendency of Canadians to keep reelecting the liberal party which promotes strong central government only makes the French Canadians more upset. The French Canadians wanted separation so they were then in a position to renegotiate their position with English Speaking Upper Canada. Given the opportunity the French Canadians will continue to try for separation again and again. It was defeated last time by a small margin, but may pass in the future.
