Their slogan is literally #NotMyPresident. That's exactly my feeling too. -k -
Demonstrations against Trump

Everyone has the right to be stupid and wrong, and these protesters are stupid and wrong. Protesting to say that they don't accept the outcome of a fair election is as stupid and wrong as you can get. When the time comes to protest an antisocial policy being implemented by the next administration, I'll be cheering them on. But for the time being they're just making fools of themselves. -k -

Sworn testimony from his chief of staff and two senior Port Authority execs that he knew exactly what was going on, with the convictions coming the week before the election. There's an open "official misconduct" case against him that is being allowed to proceed as of a ruling delivered in October. There's testimony from people at the Port Authority that about the fight the New Jersey appointees put up to keep the lanes closed and to re-close them once they had been re-opened. One email warned "Albany will hear from Trenton!" which is pretty unambiguous. Only a king-sized sucker would believe that B-listers like Kelly, Baroni, and Wildstein would come up with the plan on their own. Only a king-sized sucker would believe that Christie would let the lanes stay closed unless he wanted them to. The biggest obstacle to putting Christie on trial is that everybody who could possibly prosecute the case was appointed by Chris Christie himself. Nonetheless, I really want to see the case go to trial, because first off it's a sickening and despicable abuse of political power that should make people-- especially "Drain the Swamp!" people-- sick to their stomachs. And second because I think he'd look like The Great Pumpkin in an orange jumpsuit. -k -

I think he'll look quite dashing leading the Trump Transistion Team wearing an ultra-wide orange jumpsuit. -k -

I hope the irony of that isn't lost on anyone. But I guess it's all water under the bridge. -k -
Well that's not true. They're not enshrined in the constitution. And while gay rights have won some court victories against some legislative efforts, they're hardly immune from pushback. The charge against gay rights will be led by congressmen from rural districts in red states, where being anti-gay is a very safe political position. Support for gay rights is pretty strong in urban areas, but urban areas are under-represented at the House level. Getting voted out might be a concern for Trump himself-- in 4 years-- but it won't be a worry for the red state congressmen who bring these issues to his desk expecting his signature. Trump is what he is. He loves being the center of attention, he loves being a celebrity, he loves being a winner. The voters and the conservatives around him have made him the biggest center of attention on earth. He's not going to turn against them to defend some principle he doesn't actually care about. These bills will land on his desk, and he'll sign them because he isn't going to fight with the people who gave him the gig he's always dreamed of. As for whether he's really an "alpha male"... personally, I think he doth protest too much. As Tywin Lannister put it, "A man who must say 'I am the king!' is no true king." I don't think anybody who was actually as successful in business as Trump wanted people to believe he was would need to go around telling people he was successful or threatening to sue people who questioned his success. I don't think anybody who was truly "alpha" would be so hypersensitive about supposed insults. I don't think a real "star" would be so desperate to impress a goof like Billy Bush by bragging about what a big "star" he is. Same with the Howard Stern interviews... you could just tell how badly he wanted Stern and his audience to think he was a Cool Guy. I don't think anybody who's actually secure about his manhood needs to go around telling people he has an enormous penis. To me he doesn't act like an "alpha", he acts like somebody who's actually got insecurities and has to constantly overcompensate. But, you know, that's just my hunch. Bottom line is, "alpha" or not, this "movement" has made him the biggest "star" on earth, and he's not going to turn against it. -k

Republican candidates at Value Voters Summit: "We're going to overturn Roe v Wade! We're going to overturn Roe v Wade! We're going to overturn Roe v Wade! We're going to overturn Roe v Wade! Doesn't she actually have to be charged with something to get a pardon? It seems pretty ridiculous that Obama could say "listen, Hillary isn't charged yet, but if you guys find out something after I leave office, nuh-uh." I can't imagine that he could give her a blank-check immunity from future prosecution. -k -

Agreed... I don't think this was a rejection of the idea of a woman president. I think it was just a rejection of this particular woman. -k -

I've never really understood the degree to which conservatives hate Hillary. It always seems like people are "still mad at her from the last movie". -k -

Will Trump also go ahead and appoint the Special Prosecutor In Charge Of Jailing The Bitch, as he promised? Mayor Rudy was suggesting yesterday that he might decide not to, for the sake of "healing the divide" or some such, but I think Republican voters really want this. If Trump does go ahead with it, Ken Starr is looking for work! Starr just got fired as president of Baylor University for protecting rapist football players. He might be the man for the job. -k -
Demonstrations against Trump
kimmy replied to taxme's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
By the way, I'm completely in favor of the idea of protestors organizing to say to Trump "don't attack gay rights!" or "don't attack women's healthcare!" or "don't destroy the environment!" Maybe showing people that they have strong feelings about these issues would make congressmen or senators take not of their constituents. But that's not the message these protestors are presenting. The message they're presenting is "#NotMyPresident!" and that's stupid, because like it or not he IS your President, effective January 20. #DealWithIt. -k -

Well, guess what. Everybody knew on the morning of Nov 8 that by the next day, either Hillary or Trump would be the President Elect. People certainly had the right to vote for Gary Johnson, Jill Stein, place write-in votes for Bernie Sanders or Harambe the Gorilla, or spoil their ballots, or stay home and not vote at all. Vast numbers opted for one of these options, particularly the last. That's certainly their right. But they knew beforehand that either Hillary or Trump was going to be President Elect, and whining about how unhappy they are with the "lesser of two evils" mentality doesn't change the fact that one of them was going to win. Ultimately, they cast their ballots or abstained knowing full well that regardless of their preferred form of protest vote, and for them to now say "w-w-w-wait, I actually hate everything Trump stands for! I'm extremely upset that he won!" is, to quote the President Elect, "SAD and PATHETIC!" -k -
Yeah, the idea that Republicans face a grim future was kind of based on the idea that millennials would actually continue to vote, but clearly Obama was a mirage. -k

If Palin is in cabinet I imagine she'd be in Energy, since the Trump administration energy policy will simply be "drill, baby, drill." -k -

I love Trump's response on Twitter to the protests: Nice! Meanwhile the Breitbarters and similar media outlets are laughing their asses off at these protests, and I can't blame them. Well, I think the major protests are actually in places that Hillary won by a landslide anyway. New York City, Portland, Los Angeles, Bay Area, Seattle... so whether the protestors actually went to vote or not probably doesn't actually make any difference. And the Bernie-Or-Bust people. "I'll never reward Hillary and the DNC for how they treated Bernie!" ...well, I guess you showed her, guys! -k -
I think we'd agree that Trump himself doesn't have principles aside from getting laid and getting paid. But Pence certainly does, and we know his feelings on the subject. And the Congress, and many of the Senators. Trump's not going to fight his own party over issues that he doesn't actually care about. Easy to make fun of examples like that, but if bakers get to discriminate, then why not restaurants, hotels, taxis? There will be states that make that argument. Imagine your employer transferred you to a new state where your spouse is no longer legally your spouse, or your adopted child is no longer legally your child? Let's face it, overturning Roe v Wade is likely as well. And large numbers of Republicans will settle for nothing less, and won't be mollified by any half-measure from Trump. Trump's not going to fight his own people over this. People who advocate for defunding Planned Parenthood never have any suggestion over how the non-abortion services Planned Parenthood provides. When Texas defunded Planned Parenthood, the first thing they noticed was a spike in births to low-income women. When Indiana defunded Planned Parenthood, the first thing they noticed was a spike in the rate of HIV. -k

Martial law won't be necessary to deal with these whiners. Pepper spray ought to do it. I strongly doubt this will turn into anything even a fraction of the size of the Occupy protests or #BlackLivesMatter. -k -

Hard to feel sorry for the protestors... the election was yesterday. If you didn't want Trump to be President, you picked the wrong night to stay home, dummies. It's especially hard to feel sorry for the "Bernie Bros" who thought it would be cool to cast ballots for Harambe the Gorilla. Hope that was worth it. Dank meme, bro. Enjoy the next 20 years of conservative Supreme Court rulings. -k -

Gingrich can also give Trump some pointers on the best places to stash your mistresses in Washington. -k -
He isn't, but Pence is, most of the Republican Congress is, most of the Republican Senate is, his new Supreme Court Justice will be, and an awful lot of state governors are. Right now they have this "we are building bridges!" "we are reaching out to find common ground!" "we are healing the country!" "we are uniting around our shared values!" phase going on. That lasts until January 20, 2017. Starting January 23, 2017, it's going to be pretty much non-stop war on everything conservatives hate, from abortion to gay rights to environmental protection to the public school system. That'll continue for 21 months, during which there'll be a brief period before the midterm elections where they pay lip-service to the idea of "healing this divisiveness in our great land", then it'll be right back to red meat. They really don't have to "reach out" or "unite the country" at all, because for at least 2 years and probably 4 they have all the levers of power and basically a blank check to implement everything on the social conservative wishlist, and there's really nothing anybody can do about it. That might sound melodramatic, but that's the facts, and looking around some of the right-wing media today there's no shortage of people rubbing their hands with glee at all the things they can do with their new unopposed power. -k

Well, it wouldn't surprise me if he does it... I just don't think it would be smart. Suppose your new Secretary of Transportation ends up charged with felony official misconduct a couple weeks after he's sworn in. What kind of start would that be for a guy who promised to clean up Washington? Christie's conduct re:Fort Lee is the worst kind of abuse of political authority, and I don't think Trump could give a worse signal to the people who voted for him expecting change. I also don't think spending the whole campaign griping about the Washington political establishment, then putting a Newt Gingrich in a top post makes a lot of sense either, but I'm sure he'll do that too. -k
