  1. Earlier we had this exchange... This is also a great example of a strawman. I didn't know that anyone was making that kind of connection, other than maybe one or two kooks. Well, thanks to msj, now you know that two of those people you describe as kooks are Tebow's pastor, and Tebow himself: -Pastor Wayne Hanson -Broncos DB Wesley Woodyard And now, thanks to the dozens of mainstream media articles, and millions of tweets and facebook posts mentioning John 3:16 in reference to Sunday's game, you know that it's not just one or two kooks thinking there's a greater message, but legions of them. Legions of, as you put it, kooks. -k
  2. Just having a little fun. I figured you'd probably take it in the spirit it was intended. -k
  3. I think Putin is about a foot shorter than Harper, and probably 80 pounds lighter. My money is on Stephen if they get into it. Coward? That would be Brad Marchand throwing a check at Sami Salo's knees. I am not old enough to remember a player named Kenny "The Rat" Lindsman, but someone told me that Marchand reminds him of "The Rat". Marchand certainly has the nose to live up to that nickname, and before too long, somebody is going to break Marchand's rat nose and it'll be well-deserved when it happens. -k
  4. I was surprised to read that both Newt and Santorum have been attacking Romney's time with Bain Capital. He's a "corporate predator". He bought inefficient companies and downsized them. ...uh... Why do Newt and Santorum hate capitalism? I could understand that kind of criticism if this were the Democratic primaries, or a Liberal Party of Canada leadership convention or an NDP leadership convention. But these are Republicans. Newt and Santorum are Free Market Warriors. They value marketplace competition. And competitiveness demands that the inefficient be cut, the unproductive be eliminated, and that businesses that aren't profitable die. To me it sounds like Newt and Santorum are attacking Romney for practicing business the way that their own ideology demands. -k
  5. Actually I think there's an argument to be made that Denarius Thomas was the MVP of the game. All of those big plays, particularly the game winner, resulted from Thomas being continually able to make Ike Taylor look like a hapless idiot (highlighted by the smackdown during the game-winning play.) Without Thomas being able to continuously victimize Taylor, the game would have been completely different regardless of Tebow's play. Thomas was the MVP, and without his spectacular game, Tebow's stats would have been awfully Tebow-like. And yet everything you see in the paper today is about Tebow; hardly a word about the real star of the game. Which is just another example of how ridiculous the Tebow hype has been. The other side of the coin is those who say when Tebow has a bad game, it's the struggles of a young quarterback... but when he has a good game, it's A MESSAGE FROM GOD!!! I don't have a problem saying that Tebow had a good game. I just think it's funny that all the people who credit Jesus when things go right for Tebow are so quiet when things go wrong for him. Although I'm getting a little sick of hearing how yesterday's game is a message from Baby Jesus, I'm actually kind of glad the Broncos won for a couple of reasons. First off, while I hate Tebowmania, I don't hate Tebow himself. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, he sounds like a very sincere person. Roethlisberger, on the other hand, is a scumbag. Probably a future hall of fame scumbag, but a scumbag nonetheless. As I said at around this time last year, I never wish for anything good to happen for Roethlisberger. Second, I felt like the Broncos really got screwed on the call where Roethlisberger threw a backwards pass, the receiver dropped it, and a Bronco jumped on it. That should have been a Broncos possession deep in Steelers territory. Instead, a quick whistle from the referee resulted in the Steelers retaining possession and eventually going down and scoring a TD that put them back in the game. That was a 10 or 14 point swing resulting directly from a bad call by the referee, and I hate seeing that happen. If the Steelers had won, that call would have tainted the whole thing, to me. My favorite part... Funny. -k
  6. I think we do need more statistics on the subject, but I think obviously the question of why Americans are so fat is more complicated than just-- --oops, wrong thread. -k
  7. Ron Paul was a surgeon with the US Air Force in the 1960s. -k
  8. Another completely ridiculous performance from Drew Brees and the Saints' offense. Madness. Day 1 went pretty much as expected. What surprises will day 2 hold? I will go with the Falcons and Steelers. -k
  9. I watched some of last night's debate on ABC, and found the one thing that really astounded me was that Rick Perry is just in a completely different league from the rest of them. As in, the rest of them are pro, and Perry is like Bantam-AA or something. -k
  10. If it's not a new low, it's awfully close. To clarify, it appears that Ron Paul's campaign itself had nothing to do with the ad, and that it was put forth by some of Paul's rabid fans. A spokeswoman for Paul's campaign denounced the video and says that nobody who understands Paul's principles would have made it. -k
  11. Thanks for that excellent question, Prairiechickin. I'm developing exciting new ways for my fans to receive fresh Kimmy. One of the things to look forward to in 2012 is an SMS service where you can receive text messages with my latest thoughts, for a reasonable fee. I may venture into Twitter as well, so that you can get exciting news like what I'm having for breakfast. Thanks for vis...

  12. I believe jbg was speaking of a long-standing prejudice, not only this one shoe boycott. Following the defeat of the last sovereignty referendum, some of the sovereigntists including Premier Jacques Parizeau if I recall, blamed immigrants and Monteal Jews for the defeat. There seems to be an element in Quebec's sovereignty movement that thinks Quebec is for the "pur-lain" ethnic group and they don't see the immigrants or the Jews as part of Quebec. -k
  13. And Mike Huckabee won it in 2008. John McCain finished 4th, behind Huckabee, Romney, and Fred Thompson, the actor from Law and Order. So, plenty of reason to doubt how much Iowa matters, despite the video what's his name posted earlier. (The best part of the video, of course, is Alex Jones bellowing "Seventeeeeen Seventy Six!!!!" like the fat, dumb, mentally impaired idiot he is. Reminded me of for some reason.) Huntsman won't. He's been busy campaigning in New Hampshire and is polling pretty strong there. He thinks that a strong showing in NH can put him on the map in this race, the same way Santorum's strong showing tonight did. -k
  14. It looks like this could go to a photo finish... Rick Santorum 23% 6,067 0 Mitt Romney 23% 6,060 0 Ron Paul 23% 6,018 0 Newt Gingrich 13% 3,502 0 Rick Perry 11% 2,733 0 Michele Bachmann 6% 1,553 0 Jon Huntsman 1% 165 0 -k
  15. You know what'll prove Iowa is irrelevant? If Rick Santorum wins or comes close. How important is the Iowa caucus really? Important enough that Huntsman skipped campaigning there altogether to concentrate on New Hampshire. They only have a small number of delegates, and it's of symbolic importance, not numeric. For Romney, Iowa doesn't matter that much because he's pretty strong everywhere, "red state" or "blue state". For somebody like Huntsman, Iowa doesn't matter at all because he will only show well in "blue states". For somebody like Rick Santorum, Rick Perry, and Michelle Bachmann, Iowa means everything, because it's going to signal to religious nut-case voters in upcoming caucuses which religious nut-case candidate is the one to get behind. Looks like Rick Santorum. Oh well. See ya, Michelle Bachmann and Rick Perry. -k
  16. T. Tebow 6/22 60yds 0td 1int rating: 20.6 It looks to me like their strategy on each passing play is "hope for a flag". Incredibly, they're going to win the division anyway. Are the matchups next week Houston-Cincinnati and Pittsburgh-Denver? -k
  17. Crazy day in Green Bay! Check out that box score! Stafford over 500 yards and 5 TDs in a losing cause, Green Bay's backup Matt Flynn 480 yards and 6 TDs! Sheer insanity. Were the secondaries playing on roller skates or something?? -k
  18. A media person who had a bigger facepalm moment than Contessa Brewer would be Rush Limbaugh. When Rush caught wind that the United States was sending 100 troops to Uganda to help deal with the Lord's Resistance Arm, Rush blew up. “Lord's Resistance Army are Christians. They are fighting the Muslims in Sudan. And Obama has sent troops, United States troops, to remove them from the battlefield, which means kill them. So that’s a new war, a hundred troops to wipe out Christians in Sudan, Uganda,” he ranted on his show. And he posted the story on his website under the headline "Obama Invades Uganda, Targets Christians" Except... the Lord's Resistance Army aren't Christians in anybody's opinion except their own. They're a murderous cult led by an insane warlord who channels ghosts and spirits for guidance. They attack villages and commit mass murder, mass torture, mass rapes, and mass abductions of children-- who they turn into child soldiers. They are among the very worst people on the face of the planet. Limbaugh's error was so bad that Republican senator James Inhofe took him to task for it on the senate floor and explained why Republicans supported the move against the LRA. Oops. Of course, once it became known that the LRA are psychotic terrorists rather than good Christian kids, Rush proceeded to pretend the whole thing never happened. -k
  19. I guess me and Jerry Falwell have one thing in common, which is that we are both aware that the Bible predicts grave harm for those who disobey God. Jerry is well known for claiming that gays, feminists, and the ACLU caused 9/11, and I'm well known for claiming that the Old Testament is full of evidence that god is a seriously violent dude. I can totally see the comparison. And I do love how the standard changes for atheists compared to religious people. As someone once observed: a "militant Muslim" is somebody who straps a bomb to their chest... a "militant Christian" is somebody who shoots people at abortion clinics... and a "militant atheist" is somebody who criticizes religion in public. I am literally worse than Hitler for pointing out what the Old Testament tells us about God's attitudes toward violence; this thread is literally worse than the Holocaust. -k
  20. New covenenant, same guy. -k
  21. I'm thinking of the parts where Yahweh showed up in person and commanded his chosen people to massacre the Midianites or the Amalekites. -k
  22. I went to car shows with my dad when I was a kid. And with my special guy when I grew up. -k
  23. I'm not quite sure what that means, but thanks for tuning in. -k
  24. But Christians also believe that he showed up in person and told the Israelites to massacre other tribes to the very last infant. So you can understand my confusion. What could be a better example of the "split personality" Peeves mentioned? -k
  25. For some reason I'm picturing God looking down on the earth in the aftermath of the Great Flood, thinking "fuck... I am such an asshole." -k
