$9 Billion No-Bid Contract for 65 F-35s

Ah yes, that fellow Commonwealth country, NATO member, one of the wealthiest in the G8....we share much rich heritage and culture with Mexico, not to mention armed forces requirements & topography. -
Census - Mandatory or Voluntary
Handsome Rob replied to Keepitsimple's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
100% believe it, but as with most government programs, it's not what it does, it's what it was designed to do. Whether or not the goal is accomplished is irrelevant, the procedures are followed and boxes are ticked. If we are giving people time served + probation for assault with a weapon and sometimes manslaughter, how on earth could they ever justify punishing somebody for failing to complete a census properly or honestly? One newspaper column and StatCan's intestines would be served for dinner. Which further hardens my belief that this whole census furor is utterly frivolous, even if the legislation passes, nothing will really change. Arguing for the sake of arguing. -

Hey, I said jokes! But yeah, that's what you get in an industry where every single person loves what they do and can't set a floor price... http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/prairies/lethbridge-cf-18-jet-fighter-crash/article1650255/ Nozzle on #1 wide open and pumping thrust, #2, fully closed. Makes the cause of loss of control rather plainly evident. Now the real question, what caused the loss of thrust or alternatively, nozzle to behave irregularly. Special Centennial Hornet Paint -

Whole argument seems pretty frivolous, when was the last time somebody was punished for not filling it out? WK??? Is it any more valuable than poll projections? Don't know the science behind it. -

Pilots often seem to cost more than the airplanes they fly when you add up all the training hours. Perhaps if their is a demonstrated need... Latest jokes, future forces pilots will be pissed because they won't be able to get airline jobs because of the lack of multi-turbine time. -

In my experiences in the community of fliers, it's coke or pepsi. Less crap to fail VS a lifeline if something brakes. Simplicity or complexity. They used to say the same about 4 engine craft, then along came etops.....everything could be single engine in the future, who knows. Not exactly a make or break point. -
I'm certain the Croation white male, Mr. Kovačević, will be filing suit shortly. What's in a name anyway, so this apply's to Sri Lankens & Slav's but not to Chinese, Taiwanese, Spanish or Mexican? Such acts of discrimination surely do occur, and surely cannot be made whole by social engineering. Just a broader part of human discrimination that occurs every day, everywhere, and falls outside of the no-no categories defined by state.

I think it's a fine line.... On the one hand a police state is undesirable, and it's a slippery slope to getting there. On the other hand, many of those held went down there looking for trouble. The equivalent to, "I want a new car, I'll slam on my brakes and get rear-ended by the SUV, bingo, new car." Interested to see what the results of this are. It seems foolish to declare allegiance to either side, sure their are some people that blatantly got the short end of the stick, but the media is basically useless in reporting details of most of the events. I would think right now, what is needed, is draconian punishments for those actually convicted of black-block tactics, and handsome settlements for those wrongfully assaulted & detained. Smack with one hand and feed with the other.

Remarkable that the Harper hating CBC comment pages are batting at least 10 to 1 in favor of changing these policies. I'd venture this stands to be a home run for the Tories. How about exchanging affirmative action & quotas for equal opportunity? http://www.cbc.ca/politics/story/2010/07/22/affirmative-action-review.html#socialcomments

My GP growing up was a southeast Asian and trained in South Africa. -
If we need affirmative action to solve discriminatory issues, what exactly, are we paying the human rights commissions & tribunals for? I don't really understand where this expectation comes from, that we can unite people and eliminate discrimination based on such things as skin color, when we have government policy to divide and categorize people into different groups based on skin color? As I've said before, I'm a white visible minority in the workplace, but their are a couple of remarkable observations: -At any sort of conflict or negative event, the workplace polarizes racially, every time. I strongly suspect that if we had a 9/11 type event, we as Canadians would be unable to even show a semblance of unity. -The furthest progress I can observe, is in the somewhat evident, linear correlation between generations in Canada and amount of integration within the workplace community. IE: 1st generation Punjabi immigrants will associate with like, but 2nd generation, born here to original immigrants will associate with everyone. Given enough time, North American consumerism eliminates culture, religion, etc.

I see Mr. Ashley, so when you get hit by a car next week, you would prefer to go the HMO route? Feasible, but what of your yet undiagnosed heart murmur. Have you any thoughts of the scope of the cost? Or the difficulties in finding an insurance provider? -

630 billion debt? Why, why, why?
Handsome Rob replied to William Ashley's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
People can't be trusted to pay for the likes of health care, welfare, retirement planning, rainy day funds, etc. themselves. Things go badly for a nation when people are allowed to starve, or have to choose between food & shelter. The religion of consumerism demands that we eat ourselves into obesity sitting on the couch watching DVR'd HDTV before paying our mortgages, all the while screaming about how hard our lives are. -

Q: 630 billion debt? Why? A: We all cry when the raise taxes, and we all scream when they cut services. Doesn't get any more simple. -

The premise of this though, is that only white people are capable of such discrimination? I'm a white visible minority at work, not that I have any problem with that, for the most part my industry does not participate in EEA, but it's easy to see the blatant racial polarization in the workplace. People with purple skin prefer to work with people with purple skin, people with green skin will band together to stop those annoying people with pink skin. People are attracted to that which is familiar, and turned away from that which is foreign. It's human nature. You're far more likely to be friends with somebody that speaks your home language, eats the same food. You're also far more likely to give preference to these groups. No amount of social re-engineering is going to change human nature, which is why affirmative action hasn't worked and just further pissed people off. -
Canada's health care system sucks
Handsome Rob replied to Argus's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Wholeheartedly agree. My last trip to the ER was an exacto blade netting 5 stitches in the hand. I was waiting for over two hours, by the time I was seen, their was a puddle of blood on the floor, through the gauze the nurse gave me. 5 other people in the waiting room, I was the only one bleeding, their was one case of a sore throat I heard about, didn't catch any of the others. Didn't see a single ambulance come in with lights on. -

That's really cool? What would happen if you increased the burn time of the first stage? Build a higher speed gradually to try and stabilize like a bicycle? Are you building from kits? Or designing yourself? I'm getting into flying model aircraft. But unfortunately I have many full sized aircraft behaviors to un-learn. My 3rd trip up, was flying downwind when it gusted. Unfortunately a 30 oz model does not behave like a 1500 pound citabria, it floated, for quite a while, much like a full size aircraft balloons on flare. Much to my dismay, this float ended with a tree complete with very large prickle bush underneath. Still working on rebuilding the wing. -
