  1. They don't. I never carry my registries, my guns are registered to my old address in city A, stored in my friends safe in city B, and I reside in city C. (EDIT: Oh yeah, theirs a lee-enfield in there too, registered to my brother over 5 hours away, 2 addresses old, no less.) That's the amazing part, an actual law that could help prevent firearms thefts and potentially save lives. The government says non-restricted's must be stored behind a secure barrier, so a plastic case and padlock is sufficient. As a responsible firearms owner, I say bollocks to that, they're going in a safe, and I don't own one. Such is the complete lack of a gun control problem in Canada, that their are many examples of owners taking more responsible care than the government mandates, but they still have to look like they're doing something. It's rare to not see at least one unregistered gun at the range. The cops and firearms officers just don't care. For a restricted they may well intervene, and rightfully so, but for long guns it just isn't worth wasting the time.
  2. http://weapons.technology.youngester.com/2010/05/6th-generation-fighter-boeing-fa-xx-on.html It doesn't ever stop. Just because we don't see them deployed or publicised, doesn't mean they aren't being developed. There were many killed projects between F-15 & F-22
  3. OK sorry you're a bit too literal for me. its computer language, we have a celeron, we can buy an i7, but when you're this far behind its better to just make the big jump of next generation lga1366. without question the technology will keep surging forward, we need to spend some money to make it last, much like we did all those years ago on the current hornets. more concise?
  4. Ah yes, so in 2020, you still want to be driving that good old 1984 Oldsmobile Cutlass that will go anywhere, and is easy to fix regardless of the insane amount of fixing and tinkering it requires. Unfortunately with combat aircraft, as we found out with Sea Kings, it's expensive to keep parts supply's open that long. Not a big collector market when it comes to jet fighters. And we keep talking about Shiny new 5th generation fighters, but completely ignoring the fact that when the first one touches down on a Canadian runway, there will be 6th generation fighters and these will be called obsolete. But we'll still get a good 35 years out of 'em, if the Liberals don't cancel the project in the next decade, and it will be a good deal.
  5. The key point you miss is the fact that these jets will start arriving in a decade, when the hornet program has nothing else to give. Equivalency would be flying korean war F-86 sabres today, these jets will be 50 years old. Going the way of the sea king and 40 hours maintenance for 1 hour in the air, such is not cheap. There are lots of benefits from the F-35, from tendering development contracts, to getting a return on our to date investments, to having the best maintenance shop in the world a 2 hour flight away. There is little point in talking about things like the Gripen or other aircraft that have been in service for a decade all ready, because by the time we start retiring hornets, these nations will be in the same place we are today.
  6. Any police officer worth his wits considers any stop and any house potentially armed. The majority of potential weapons danger comes from unregistered, besides the fact that their are more unregistered firearms in Canada than registered, the accuracy of registry information is pitiful, and their is no punishment for being dishonest in terms of registered addresses & such.
  7. Somewhere around the Magnot line. Besides the fact that they do more than just kill. I here Cessna has some good deals days.
  8. I was invited to a party last week, they were celebrating because after 6 years and $60,000 in sponsorship funds, with some working 3 jobs to save, grandma finally got the visa approval. But it seems it really isn't worth it to jump through all those hoops anymore, no? http://www.nationalpost.com/news/canada/Suspected+Thai+people+smuggling+ship+reported+heading+Canada/3283946/story.html
  9. I can pitch in, there are different levels of status card, I know quite a few card carrying natives, mostly metis, that entitles them to nothing and they live just like everybody else. There may be significant problems on the reserves, but suggesting that it applys to the entire population? Does the poor black neighbourhood in east LA represent the entire black population of the states?
  10. I think what he is trying to say, is that when people bring baggage from home (Sri Lankan's always out lobbying Ottawa for a state, Sikh's pushing for an independent state and out celebrating the Air India 'martyrs', Muslims pushing for Sharia law, etc) it really creates a sort of negative diversity amongst communities. The stuff from Dosanjh seems to support this, he seems to always be trying to get the sikh extremists to shut up.
  11. Okay so which is it? You're pissed at him for squandering the money? Or not doling it out fast enough? That's a pretty rapid position change.
  12. Not yet prepared to completely throw him to the wolves, Economic climate has a very large role to play. Pretty on par. Not to mention when you peg deficit VS revenue, well we shouldn't forget that quickly, http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/opinions/why-canada-shouldnt-strut-on-the-global-stage/article1630573/ This doesn't mean I approve of Harper, but to unilaterally blame him for all the money flowing out....?
  13. No argument from me. I suspect that a Liberal government would run up larger numbers, but that doesn't believe it by default. I also don't believe exchanging a Conservative minority, Con/Lib de facto coalition for a Liberal minority, Lib/Con de facto coalition is going to make a semblance of change fiscally, so for me personally, voting will continue to be influenced by the local MP candidate.
  14. Trudeau debt, $20 Bn (1970) -> $208 Bn (1984) Net Change - $188 Bn Harper debt, $458 Bn (2007) -> $543 Bn (Forecasted 2012) Net Change - $85 Bn Can't think of a better yardstick than that. Not defending Harper, or his spending ways, it needs to stop, but the statement is propaganda.
  15. As an individual who claims, "The highest spending government in history," I'm sorry, you haven't sold me.
  16. Pretty simple concept, no? Where is the problem? He spends like a drunken sailor, I absolutely do not approve. Guess this make me, "A partisan hack?" Proof positive, and voter ignorance grants us the governments we deserve.
  17. Do whatever it is you want, so long as it doesn't harm anybody, and you don't expect me to pay for it. -Canadian.
  18. What? Is he up to 10% of Trudeau total deficits? I guess he's got a few years to catch up.
  19. Tell that to post 2008 tax revenues. And don't pull 2% GST cut, it's peanuts in the grand scheme. The world isn't black and white so much as we would like it to be.
  20. Still lurking around here in the background... I don't follow politics enough to answer this: I know they generally vote along Party lines, but I can't find anything that he has ever publicly whipped. Anyone know of any recent bill where he has whipped the party a la Iggy money furnace registry? Cheers
  21. Is it becauseof US arsenals that they don't try?
  22. Agree. Disclaimer: Punked, this is my personal opinion and should be treated as such. Unions simply collect wealth to a lesser extent, and spread it over a larger base. The incurred penalty is driving up the expense of products delivered, and COL, in effect making it more difficult for the non-unionized equivalent to get by. In a pro-union wet dream, with everybody making a 'living wage,' inflation will account any gains made and status quo returned to. I'm very pleased that unions exist and they've brought us benefits, but the fact remains that we've come a long way passed 'poverty wages' in North America, with even our minimum wage earners being looked up on by the overwhelming majority of the worlds population, including industrialized nations. It's interesting to hear people talk about the 'old days' of good wages and benefits, but they still saved up to buy a color television as opposed to our modern day, 'poor,' minimum wage earner replacing their LCD every 2 years on credit because of new tech. People like to harp about billionaires and fabulous wealth, but if we divided it up amongst ourselves, what are we left, a few hundred extra dollars per year?
  23. In the case of the Bacon brothers, he may as well all ready be convicted. Vancouver's own little miniature Al Capone, everybody knows, and that isn't heresy. In addition to the fact that Bacon's colleague in the Surrey 6, Dennis Karbovanec already plead guilty to life, for a purported deal. If he testifies against Bacon, it should be over, if not, only a matter of time before he get's his conviction. Inevitable, only thing that could change that, is him finally getting one past the bulletproof vest and armored SUV. If Bacon get's a softer sentence than Karbovanec, faith is pretty much lost. Another interesting tidbit on Bacon human rights complaints, he couldn't see his television from his bed inside the cell. How about that eh?
  24. You're suggesting that such an event as knocking down a security-less stadium plaza at an NFL game and killing 30,000 people isn't going to invoke the same reaction? The stick with airplanes because, they found a winner. Like a certain arms race bankrupting a certain soviet nation. They don't have to kill a single person and still walk away with ultimate victory. Not to mention the problems related to fixing symptoms and not fixing people, but I guess it's our 'destiny' to get dumbed down into walking drones with a 32,000 page rule book of everything we're not allowed to do for our own safety. Regardless, this thread is getting ridiculous.
  25. And another possible solution is to come to the realisation that driving to work in the morning is a far more dangerous ordeal than getting on an airliner anywhere, and we should stop friggin' worrying about it because that is exactly what they want.
