  1. Whoa Yarg...slam dunk.
  2. Compared to what, East LA? B&E, Auto-Theft, Drug offenses down, everything else and all violent up? http://www.statcan.gc.ca/daily-quotidien/060720/dq060720b-eng.htm How much of that is cultural, and how much of that is police work? This poster thinks they aren't even bothering to chase, or report minimalist crimes as such. Living in Vancouver, it is clear it is getting worse, at least around here. It makes me want to throw up a little when I read in the news, of a police raid in which they arrest 39 people with 421 convictions between them. (Yes, I picked those numbers off the top of my head, but I'm sure I can find news clippings if need be, I've read it.)
  3. Corrected. And the registry in know way provides that information, on top of which, any cop who trusts the computer and all the screwed up records doesn't deserve to be a cop. What are they going to do, if the registry indicates no firearms present, and the officer attending gets stabbed by the firearm toting owner? No we're talking problems. Dangerous hammer registry too!
  4. ^^^ Websters - Canadian Justice System
  5. More money is spent on boob jobs and viagra than on alzheimer’s research! By 2040 the elderly will have perky ****'s, stiff ****'s and no ****ing idea why! -Unknown
  6. I don't really care who the government was, both sides generate garbage like this. The point is, this is something that the entire country should be angry about. Not just this one specific incident, but the whole trend. It's disgusting. It's really sad how little Canadians really care.
  7. Getting juicier: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/gun-registry-fight-pits-cop-against-cop/article1559295/ http://www.vancouversun.com/news/Police+rift+emerges+over+long+registry/2995482/story.html Lobby groups getting exposed?
  8. At what point does the population step out and scream, "NO!" If we're not going to put up a fight about this, is all hope pretty much lost? http://www.thestar.com/news/gta/crime/article/804609--teen-killer-to-be-released
  9. You're suggesting those not in the seated government exert no influence at all? The budget? Passage of bills? If their was an election in June, the past 4 years of un-recorded lobbying isn't going to carry any influence?
  10. It really belongs in, "Who is advising Ignatieff," but hey. Con's expose themselves as political powerplayers yet again, Iggy succeeds in hextuple knotting his shoelaces, going for new records every day. I say though, on paper it looks like a good idea out of the government, damage control or not. http://www.cbc.ca/politics/story/2010/05/05/lobbying-act-motion-day-liberals.html#socialcomments
  11. Opinion: Liberals can't/won't shut them out. Conservatives won't get a majority. Status quo remains.
  12. I would suggest that the economy will contract, with such a large group of people both using less services and no longer producing wealth. I just saw a figure of 3.7 million, 10 years at present levels of immigration, if, every new immigrant is of working age and doesn't draw on the system, which isn't the case. It's hard to say we won't feel the effects.
  13. Well for one thing, they're born in a hospital 999/1000 times, probably higher, on top of which they get the benefit of a healthy and well off workforce. It's not what I think, it's the difference between things that every single tax payer uses, and things that people choose to use or not. By that logic, why does the government not own all the sports franchises? Government owned restaurants? Movie theatres? They could play state films. Heck, why not just go communist? I'd call Canada more hybrid than socialist, it's capitalism that brings home the bacon, always will be.
  14. The difference in that position being, health care is something that every single canadian will at some point in their life, need. Same can be said for police, infrastructure, EMS, armed forces, to a certain extent things like EI. Things that reflect genuine gains in quality of life for everybody. Paying tax for health care is like an RRSP, in the case of the populace that is to stupid to plan for ourselves, the government has to do it for us.
  15. I would take the position that people should choose that which they would like to support, and those destined to fail, are going to fail regardless of whether or not we place them on life support for an indetermined amount of time. We generate more than enough additional wealth placed in consumer spending, that household budgets can justify supporting such things. When you look at the attendance of the dull museums, art galleries and such, I don't for one second by the idea that the existence of said venue alone is responsible for bringing in additional revenues for the community, and if it was such a tourist attraction they should easily be able to afford their own budgets based on revenues alone.
  16. OK...the original statement may have been a tad bit too sensationalized, but within the context of extrapolating a nation where the christmas day bomber happens once per month? Is it really that far-fetched?
  17. I didn't think it was a far fetched escalation
  18. How many actively watch the CBC, besides Hockey? If this wasn't a significant problem, shouldn't the CBC be making money from happy advertisers like most of the other networks? The Magic Pills. Another great one, how to not read a cell phone contract and blame the carrier for following it.
  19. True, but we ought to fund one. Every single Canadian has an interest in health care, whether they like it or not. Buy rates of attendance, less than 10% have an interest in venue's of the arts.
  20. BC SC specifically ordered the HRT to establish whether or not they had jurisdiction over charter grounds and freedom of expression, prior to conducting any sort of hearing. It's the same reason the defendants lawyer walked out, feeling that the HRT was in contempt of a real court of law. BC HRT explaining why they don't give a F what the BC SCC said http://www.bchrt.bc.ca/decisions/2010/pdf/april/128_Pardy_v_Earle_and_others_%28No_3%29,_2010_BCHRT_128.pdf They also decided he's not allowed to appeal their decisions at a real court of law. It's a really interesting case, could carry some precedent implications. Could care less if they help 1000 people per day, I personally will never again support the kangaroo court garbage ever again. EDIT: Looking for actual transcript of the SC ruling, in the near term: http://www.theprovince.com/life/Comic+will+face+tribunal+today/2738512/story.html#ixzz0myHDD9ZN
  21. Who comes when the red river floods? Who does SAR off our rugged coasts and rescues people? Who does are border patrols? Who's going to be there when the next natural disaster hits? The Military does not automatically equate to guys running around with guns shooting babies in the desert, as much as many would like to think so. Trudeau & Chretien already Hung & Drew the armed force budget, but that's not enough eh? Need to go for the quartering? I for one would be interested to see an estimate of what their budget would look like if they had been properly funded for the last 20 years, because it would have be a fraction of what it is today. Bring the troops home though, and keep them the hell out of the Congo.
  22. Marketplace? Really? Person: I paid $6,000 for my lose 80 lbs overnight pills, and I didn't lose any weight! CBC: Oh that's terrible, that evil, evil corporation. We're going to go run a smear campaign against them because you were to lazy to have any common sense to differentiate between obvious scam and un-obvious scam. Forget about thinking for themselves, Canadian's need the government to protect them, that way we'll never have to make a moderately intelligent decision ever again.
  23. *Applause* *Roaring Applause*
  24. BC HRT has 'supreme authority', they just told the BC Supreme Court to piss off, can't imagine they'd watch out for a little thing like the Charter or the Constitution.
  25. I'd venture if confirmed Islamic attacks became common place in the united states, it would become a very unpopular place for muslims to live, and a lot of them, regardless of guilt or innocence, would end up getting shot. Sort of like post 9/11 on steroids.
