  1. Actually, it's the opposite. The census long form USED TO be rammed down our throats, now were being given the choice. Choice is good.
  2. Liberals sure like to dream about that. They keep neglecting to factor in that in winning, that still means that Harper is better than everyone else. When you have almost twice as many seats as the next closest guy, that is still not anything even resembling a loss. Under the current circumstances in parliament, it would be a very remarkable achievement to get a majority. Something very big would have to happen, like the complete disappearance of one of the top three parties.
  3. More likely the Liberals just didn't buy any headlines today. I'm sure they'll find something new to lie about tomorrow.
  4. Except that I was the one who got to the disturbances and crimes in progress before the cops did. I'm the one who had to deal with the real crap. All the real cops had to do was the paperwork.
  5. I actually worked for several years with a private emergency response unit. People hired us because we got there faster than the police. We responded to break and enters, drunk and disorderly, vandalism, trespassing, brawls, etc. Pretty much anything where someone would want to call the caps, but actually wanted someone to show up in time to catch the perpetrators. Pulling a weapon out is a sign of aggression, and a POORLY trained responder. It CAUSES situations to go bad. It starts becoming a self-fulfilling prophesy. People react badly right away, so you feel justified in having the weapon out. You shouldn't even have your hand on the holster unless a bad situation is your intention. Seriously, if that's the kind of training cops are getting, it's no wonder we are seeing both so many police brutality cases, and so many people shooting at police. A cop with that training is a loose cannon.
  6. It is pulling the gun out, and it's a direct deadly threat. A cop who acts like that deserves it if he gets shot. You're right. I wasn't trained in jackboot brutality.
  7. Maybe in a totalitarian police state.
  8. Pulling the gun out at all is reprehensible if the suspect was not already brandishing a weapon.
  9. It's amazing to me that Americans are actually defending the pulling of a gun during a traffic stop. If that's considered acceptable behaviour, I'm sure glad I don't live there.
  10. The reason Bourque's headlines are so sensational is that they are paid ads.
  11. A clean Police Department would welcome if not encourage the video. It's evidence that any accusations of impropriety or brutality are unfounded. Any police department who does not want their officers actions recorded is admitting in advance that they are corrupt.
  12. So do I. I expected them to use significantly more force.
  13. Laraques is not just an NHL tough guy, he has also been training in MMA with Georges St. Pierre. Maybe instead of debates, he'll challenge his political opponents to a cage match.
  14. I really used to like Glenn back when he was on CNN. He provided a nice rational balance to their otherwise left-leaning programming. Ever since he moved over to Fox, he's simply gotten more and more crazy. I'm lost as to what the difference is though. Was CNN holding him back, or is he just playing a character on Fox?
  15. Why can't the government use the information they already have other departments like the CRA? Why can't private organizations collect their own data? You keep saying people don't understand, but you aren't presenting anything that even remotely qualifies the types of questions that are on the long form as necessary.
  16. You should not be allowed to hide your face in most public settings, regardless of the reason. Especially places like stores, schools, and banks.
  17. If there's any hidden agenda, it's that Harper and the CPC are a lot more LEFT-wing than they are letting on.
  18. Politicians wrote it, it wasn't handed down from Mount Sinai.
  19. We had a different one before. Why is it OK for Trudeau to change it, but not anyone else?
  20. The Charter is just a piece of paper. Change it.
  21. It is OK, because it's not a myth, it's a fact. Canadians do have the right to health care, with greater certainty than Americans have the right to bear arms.
  22. Things like my religion, health history, and ethnicity are none of the government's business. There were a lot of really invasive questions like that on the last long form I received. I always seem to get the long form too, but I always throw it out.
  23. You can disagree all you like. You sit in the US and complain that I don't have the right, I'll stay here and enjoy the fact that I do.
  24. As long as the provinces receive transfer payments in order to maintain those services, Provincial responsibilities are still Federal responsibilities from a fiscal perspective. Especially where federal laws require the provinces to maintain those programs.
