  1. Of course he wants to cut taxes!! for the top 10 percentile and corporations but this is old news isn't it.
  2. Here here, In complete accordance with you! Let's get rid of these silly quotas though. If they can be a contributing member of society, I say welcome!
  3. Although I agree with you that energy self reliance is wholly possible, the willingness like you said just isn't there. I further agree with you that the skills aren't beyond the average person either, I've got my own balcony solar installation that I'd love to expand, but like you said the willingness for such a venture in the grand scale just isnt there and I don't see it happening any time soon.
  4. I no longer buy into this "greening". It's simply isn't feasible or efficient enough to generate power with wind or solar, at the moment. we create a larger energy deficit in the manufacture and shipment of solar panels that will take much longer to recover and even then, these will become far obsolete. With the recent developments in nuclear energy with:CANDU fuel recovery and also the future prospect of Thorium It only makes sense to fund the construction and further research into nuclear energy.
  5. this is new...to me at least.

  6. I'd love to see explicit examples of "Toronto" telling the rest of Canada what to do. It's very short-sighted (but it is your opinion after all) to say TO doesnt think you exist. Unless you're thinking of Bay St; Canada's financial centre. In that case you're spot on. Ridiculous idea, but if Toronto did seperate per se and get more of it's share of the pie I don't see much in the way of it be squandered. TTC anyone?
  7. On the subject of batteries, there's also a revolutionary Canadian-made battery made in Mississauga for electric cars. The Lithium Ion Polymer battery can power electric vehicles for longer in a smaller battery. Ontario also gave them 17 million$ to expand it's operation. Here's a couple links: http://www.cbc.ca/technology/story/2009/08/04/electrovaya-funding.html, http://www.electrovaya.com/products/master/Default.aspx
  8. Well I suppose human excrement is a valuable resource which remains untapped. I'd be more adept to categorize that as renewable;) But what I'm saying is that natural gas simply isn't sustainable... It's really just a band-aid solution and creates more CO2. This obviously doesn't help us in the long run... here's a more direct/relevant link on the same site about Ontario's natural gas situation: http://www.abetterenergyplan.ca/the_plan_gas.php A few good points on the risks that natural gas is subject to that the article brings up are: -supply; -price volatility; -pipeline infrastructure requirements driven by the new gas plants; and -potential price impacts for other gas users e.g., residential home heating and industry. Just a little side information for further thought on the subject of building this power plant.
  9. Yup that's what i was thinking. His interest lies in those of his backers: those with money and lots of it. (not an uncommon occurrence)
  10. I don't think it's ever time for Harper to make his move unless it's him leaving office. I'd rather have nothing happen then see power fall into Harp's hands. Hence my reasoning to wait until we get a real leader; that is if it's still possible in this day and age...
  11. Good god no! were far better off with a minority. Until at least we get a real leader. Regardless of party, we need a change here badly.
  12. Couldn't agree with you more here. On a side-note christians might be "tortured" in the muslim world however you might want to define that word, Here the muslim world is persecuted/discriminated against at roughly the same frequency//. I refuse to fall into the ignorant muslim hating ritual. Remember not all muslims are extremist fundamentalists. Generalizations. pfft.
  13. What a ridiculous thread, you put it so eloquently with your reply here, i had to repost.
  14. "Lying is done with words and also with silence."
  15. What about the fact it's gas fired powerplant? I read some interesting information here: abetterenergyplan.ca "The competition for gas supplies will undoubtedly lead to higher gas prices. According to the Ontario Power Authority, even neighbouring jurisdictions are concerned about the rapid growth in Ontario's natural gas consumption."
  16. Just out of curiosity, Is there a thread on the afro-centric schools? I couldn't seem to find one after a short search..any help?
  17. I believe we should legalize marijuana, cocaine, Psilocybin, LSD. We should sell sweet old mary jane like they do cigarettes and tax the crap out of it. The other three should be controlled by prescription. Things like meth/crack/ecstasy should remain illegal as these are particularly unhealthy drugs. The money we would save from the justice system should then be put into health and education. We'd save a ton of money used to buy toys n tazers for the popo, then we can put this money back into the hands of the population by investing in the population.
  18. you must be joking if not...how so? are they watching? puts on tinfoil hat, crouches in a dark corner
  19. Although I might be new here and my words don't carry much weight, I thought it was an excellent film and more specifically Col. Hans Landa as portrayed by Christolph Waltz. Even though the gore in the movie was gratuitous (as it usually is with QT and i can't get the scene where Hitler's head is shot to peices) I think Tarantino did an excellent job creating a visually stimulating movie with a great story. @Catallaxy though you fail to see the "unambiguous" moral clarity of it all, The majority of western peoples certainly saw Hitler/Mussolini as evil and the moral thing at the time was to combat these 'evil doers'. Although the results of the war might not be black and white; the common consensus of WWII as good vs. evil in society and in pop culture remains.
  20. This might just be my opinion but I believe national museums and monuments are deserving of our billions of dollars. They are national after all and do contain/preserve our countries history... They are also representative of our country to the outside world. I think the real debate in that spectrum is why the concentration of our national museums/galleries are located in the capital surrounding area... I highly doubt diplomats visit them, but i might be wrong... Being natively from northern ontario (18 years in a town pop. of 6000) and current Torontonian (6 years) who has travelled our vast beautiful nation; I have to disagree with your shortsightedness that "no question" Torontonians think they are special. We don't just think it; we know it. I don't approve of these games. But there's nothing (legal at least) that can be done to stop them.
  21. Isn't that what the olympics are for? And I really don't think the PAN-AM games do much to inspire youngsters to become involved in sports. I know, i used to be one (a youngster) You obviously don't live in Toronto... But I agree to disagree with the PAN AM Games:) This is somewhat true, but like most people in Toronto we're not originally from Toronto. We do know there's an outside world, but I can only speak for myself...
  22. Thats just rediculous! I mean a good deal of truckers own the truck they use... I could see if the truck was company owned there could be problems with that but even so consequences should lie with the employer. So if someone does work at home would they be fined? I don't think so. That makes no sense at all.
  23. hahahah OxiClean? I've always switches stations myself as well, wasn't so much what he said but how he said it.. I like the guy in a cultural sense kinda like the compulsive ramblings of Don Cherry
