I have had it up to here with all of our candidates; anybody for a good old benevolent dictatorship. Legalize marijuana; it could go a long way towards helping out our health care costs. It can be home grown; it is an effective medication for quite a few diseases and pain control. Much cheaper than prescriptions and less dangerous side effects. Glaucoma eye drops mis prescribed by an eye specialist could have killed my husband. His feet swelled up double size, eyes puffy and skin dry and flaking. He doesn't have glaucoma but I do; I plan to use marijuana if it works for me.

Michael Moore is not a politician so he is free to do as he pleases. Nothing in your post compares to what I am talking about. Private citizens can do what they wish. The rules at election polling stations must be observed or all be a farce. Remember the libelous claims that the NDP and Liberals supported child pornograpy came from Harper and co.

If the Conservatives win a minority and take office; there will be an election called in 2 months. If the Liberals get power; the election call will be in about 8 months. There are going to be lots of recounts and problem with this election; particularly in BC where ethnic groups are violating election rules. At the present; it is Conservative members at advanced polling booths but I do admit the Liberals have had some hanky panky going on in their ethnic ridings pre election. I just might have to give the NDP my vote; They may spend our money like it is water but so far there have been no dishonest electioneering from that party that I have heard of. The NDP could win the next election if the two leading parties keep shooting themselves in the foot with those unregistered gun and shooting off their mouths with ideas they must quickly retract; so as to hide their real agendas.

Scrutineers (NDP and Liberal) have filed affadavits in North Delta. Conservative candidates nephew is bringing in herds of people and telling them how to vote. He is sitting at the door way. Socializing with the Conservative scrutineers. Polling staff would not allow the scrutineers from the NDP or Liberals to count or inspect ballots before using. If this is happening already, look for lots of recounts and other irregularities.

Message to politicians; Nova Scotia needs some grammar schools. If your captain friend threw back a lot of fish dead; he should be prosecuted. The laws are put in place to protect fish stocks; no wonder stocks are dwindling and for no good reason. The idea is to leave the fish in the water ALIVE and able to reproduce.

Seems to me Commonsense?????? that we have heard plenty of lies from the Harper gang. After Mulroney, we did have to recover. When governments lower taxes; they just have other means of getting our money. Fees and licenses. The biggest lie came from Harper who tried to claim he supported Chretien's decision to keep us out of involvement in the Iraq invasion. Harper would have us kissing Bush butt; no thanks. I AM CANADIAN; don't want to be America's little puppy dog.

I second you take a number; This election is about keeping Canada independent from American/ Bush control. Let's not vote conservative and follow the American lead. Look where it has taken them. Our Health Care system should be improved not destroyed completely like Harper may well do. Harper seems to have ideas that we get glimpses of; then he denies them. I do not trust him at all. The only one of his plans that I agree with is not funding a national day care program. We need to fix our Health Care before we begin any national day care which subsidizes two working parents. Daycare need only to be subsidized to give a hand up and get people off welfare not to take on a parent's duties to raise their children. However, I would support a bigger tax allowance that is realistic in the costs of raising chiildren. People no longer use the friendly known neighbour or relative as that would not come with a government subsidy. I paid for raising my children,I paid for my daycare; why should I pay for parents who can afford to pay their own tax deductible day care. My daughter forwent the extra paycheque to ensure her children get good care and training and bonding with their own parents. Why should I pay to raise your kids.

Mike Harris did nothing wrong.

Gordon Campbell in BC has done nothing for our deficit. Despite selling off BC owned resources/companies/ jobs such as BC Hydro, Ferries, and BC rail; raising medical premiums; cutting seniors assistance for prescriptions; breaking contracts with nurses; contracting out hospital workers jobs to the lowest bidder; He has made the deficit grow. We need Health Care in a acceptable time NOW; we need schools NOW. Campbell and co are spending our money on the dubious idea of bringing the Olympics to Vancouver in 6 years. Lots of money to spend on highways to a ski resort; they are still trying to spend money on an expensive mercedes benz type transit sytem to the airport with lots of tunnelling that could send prices spiralling over the 1.7 billion planned for. Gordon Campbell will be gone next election; back to the NDP. Meanwhile, those of us who are middle income get the shaft either way. Campbell helps the rich; NDP helps the poor. In both cases; we middle income workers pay the bills and get to pay pay pay. However, I would rather help the poor than make the rich richer. Especially since many of these rich companies are not BC companies. -
Adding private health care and higher medicare premiums does not make Health care work better. BC has always had medicare premiums. Campbell raised these premiums; we do have sneaky private care to enable those desperate or wealthy to get quicker service. You pay for using the clinic not for the procedure. Seniors share for their prescriptions has gone way up for most. Despite this; waiting times have grown. Doctors, nurses, and management got big raises; lab technicians, practical nurses , dieticians , laundry workers, janitorial either got their jobs contracted out or a 14% cut in wages. The list still grows longer. Lots of money for anything to do with the olympics, though. Priorities????????

If you were finance minister for your province,
caesar replied to Big Blue Machine's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
What is wrong????? besides the continual changes; why should we not want long term qualified persons from within the industry to run these operations. Political patronage is not in our best business interests. Constant turnovers cost taxpayers money for unqualified people; listen to some of the severance packages these characters get for a couple years work. To be truly effective CEO would take a while to effectively know the ins and outs , customer base, etc particulars of a company. GEESH. Blue better do a little more research. -
There is a possible new case of BSE in a cow in the USA. This is not a positive test, yet. If there is not a cover up; and a second case of BSE is found in the USA; should we close our borders to any American Beef. Personally, I believe that unless the USA can blame this cow on Canada ; it will be claimed to have been unproven in the more accurate testing.

I would stop all patronage appointments; These are a big drain on taxpayer's money especially in a province like BC where we change from one governing party to the other every election. Crown Corporations should be run by people within the industry;someone who knows the company and what is required. Governments give these positions to friends of the party; the previous CEO or whatever the position is; is fired with a large severance package and pension. Outgoing politcal MP or MLAs leave government with big severance pay and pensions. I believe one appointee in Health management of some kind was paid off without ever taking office. BC Hydro seems to get a new CEO every year or so with the outgoing one leaving with a big chunk of taxpayer's money. These positions should be hired on merit for the job not his political leanings. -
Ralph Nader should get out of politics himself. He was responsible for letting Bush getting elected last time. This election; he will again drain votes from the democrats. Voring NDP; will not help in preventing the Conservatives from winning the election; it will probably take votes away from the Liberals. However; the NDP is a more legititmate party than Ralph Nader; If you believe in their policies; you should give them your vote. The NDP are not a credible party for winning the election this round;but if they pick up more seats this election; they will be a much more credible choice in the following election in a few months.

EI is a ripoff. It means low income earners cannot quit a job when an employer refuses to pay adequately or give raises. The government is using this money for other reasons. Higher income workers have to pay into this system but must repay most of any money they collect. Employers know that there is no safety net if you quit; meanwhile it is difficult to look for a job while you are employed. While it needed to be tightened up to quit abuses; leaving no just reasons available for quitting is very employer enabling for refusing raises to keep up with the cost of living. It is widening the gap between the poor and wealthy.

Conservatives - Party for Men, Rich?
caesar replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
(Harper may not be perfect but he is a person who hates waste and would trim the fat so to speak. ) yeah like Health Care; thanks but no thanks. Then he will spend our money like a drunken sailor on a military to assist his buddy Bush. Again NO THANKS We need to upgrade our military but not with transport planes. Ships to patrol CANADA's shores and Helicopters for defense. More men and bases to be available in times of disaster marine or land. Peace keepers not an invasion force to assist you know who. -
I think Harper does quite well himself; letting enough of his radical ideas slip to let people see what he is really about. Those Canadians that like to just vote out a party in power for misdeeds or whatever need to take a look at what they are voting for. We are learning the hard way in BC. It is very expensive to keep switching back and forth. All this outgoing politicians leave with their pockets well lined as do all their friends in patronaged jobs. I do not really like any of our choices but Harper and his admiration for Bush scares the H out of me. Mulroney sold us out enough already.

UN Human index scale???? How did the conservatives turn us into number one when we are 7??????? Sorry, have no idea what you are talking about. The last time the Conservatives were in power they saddled us with the GST; put us in heavy debt, sold out Canada with the ridiculous lop sided free trade agreement. -
August; the globe and mail is a pretty open minded paper. It is the Can West papers that all spout the same conservative nonsense ( the support the BC Liberals, too) Can West has too much control of what we are told. The own most of the newspapers, tv stations, and radio stations. We are not getting unbiased news anymore; propaganda and nonsense. Much of what should be of interest and public knowledge is ignored when it doesn't go with the conservative right wing notions.

Premiers are voters too and have every right to get involved in Federal elections.. However, I think that any involvement of BC Liberals would be detrimental to the Federal party. These BC Liberals are right wing Conservatives and would not be welcome. It is confusing to many uninformed BC ers who are confusing the two. The Conservatives will get votes in BC from people who hate the BC Liberals who spout the same rhetoric as Harper.

August: "Rev, you seem to think that Harper is bad because he wants to use your credit card to buy stuff, and Martin is good because he wants to use your debit card. In truth, it makes no difference which card a politician uses." that is not true. Martin wants to spend the money we HAVE; Harper will spend that and all we can borrow. Put our kids and grandchildren in debt for our bills. Using credit cards is dumb; It ends up costing much more. -

Not so sure I believe in proportional representation. It really only makes us fund more fringe parties on taxpayers money. Any changes to government costs taxpayers money that can be used better elsewhere. Health Care and education. Education needs help if some of the grammar and spelling I have seen on these sites is really from Canadian educated adults. I can tell the difference between typing errors and spelling and grammar mistakes. -
No thanks to American style private health care. No thanks to any Canadian doctor who prefers to practice in the USA. Greedy person who probably is running away from paying back his student loans. Our health care system for health care can be fixed; We do not want to be like America where money is the only concern. Stop abusing the system; quit running to the doctors with your little coughs and colds or flu. Quit blaming the older generation and look at yourselves and how quick you run to the doctor to fix your little boo boos. We spoilt you bunch of whiners. Doctors should stop over prescribing prescriptions.

US Torture Scandal
caesar replied to Moderate Centrist's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Mr Farrius; you amaze me. Iraq had built itself. The USA destroyed much of Iraq's infrastructure that is why thhe USA is responsible for rebuilding Iraq. If someone wrecks your car; you want him to pay for it; would you agree with the one who caused the damage if he told you to just go out a buy a new car yourself??????? DUH Iraq would probably be happy to do its own rebuilding just as long as the USA pays for the damage it has done. -
