  1. The City of Toronto is not against free speech. Pride will get their funding.
  2. I heard he was a Conservative Party of Canada party fund-raiser.
  3. Nice failed attempt to hijack the thread Scribblet. But this shows you what kinds of guys - and by proxy, gals apaprently - that make up this party. No need for old Liberal scams when you have fresh Conservative ones to feast on.
  4. Interesting front page story from the Sun: Ex-Harper aide, escort linked to deal OK, so the Libs had AdScam. What clever 'scam' titles can you think of for this little faux paw?
  5. What non-westerners can't understand irony and sarcasm? Do you have some sort of ethnological survey you are referring to or are you pulling something out of your arse? Oh I get it, you are trying to be ironic...
  6. Which perfectly illustrates my point had Trudeau actually had the gall to follow through and make it an issue. He was protecting you from making really, really bad judgments of a person based on what you make it "seem" or what you "would hope" wouldn't apply. But the fact is, you really don't know and thus are left with fear in ignorance. That is the prime definition of 'the soft bigotry of low expectations.' But that is not what is says, the guide says: Does the above include Americans to you? How about Canadians?
  7. Is this the kind of "weather company" that pooches the forecast data from Environment Canada, re-packages it, dresses it up and then sells it as a $0.96 Android or iPhone app? Or is there some specific purpose for this company?
  8. The "system" you refer to is no doubt the public education system which should always have a hands-off attitude towards religion or religious input except for the purposes of examination and critical thinking of it as a topic. And Blessed Be that Fact. If you don't like this public education system brainwashing you are free to choose a compatible and legitimate religious or private school. Or put your kid in the Catholic school board. They teach about the bible and stuff there so that shouldn't be any problem for any Christian whatsoever. But believe me, we aren't going backwards in the public education system so find your own.
  9. That's right, and the Canadian Shield has plenty of hills for everyone to run to when all hell breaks loose at the nukes. In Pickering Ontario, home of the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station, there is has been a surge of people buying up iodine pills in the local pharamacies. No doubt a residual effect of the news from Japan. Kind of like this thread.
  10. I think some funding for an NHL rink in Quebec City is great - economic stimulus, raise all those tax dollars, placate the masses of pining hockey fans... and one big giant FIP logo just as people come into the building. But the best part of this is that at centre ice before every game or event, they could have Michael Ignatieff's mug there on the jumbo screen while underneath is says: Michael Ignatieff. See? He did come back for you. In French of course.
  11. Perhaps it might be worthwhile to ask the editors of the Study Guide – Discover Canada "barbaric cultural practices" Or you could ask yourself and do a little association. When someone mentions honour killings, genital mutilation, forced marriage - what cultures come to mind?
  12. Kimmy already asked a few pages ago, but I'll ask again - what cultures do you think tolerate or accept honour killings? Your comment is the exact reason why Justin Trudeau stuck his foot in his mouth. Would you understand it better if it was phrased in such away as to protect your culture from honour killings? Would that make more sense to you then?
  13. I was making a joke too. Is humour lost on you as well?
  14. And, believe it or not, I don't think this was genuine political correctness at all. Justin could have come out and pushed on the issue, brushed aside the semantics of the word 'barbaric,' and talked about the branding of large swaths of people as 'barbaric' by way of association with certain subcultural practices. As If WE are beholden as barbaric because some male biker gangs are known to gang bang some of their women for the fun of it. But he quickly withdrew what appears to be a foot-in-mouth comment for political exigencies. Not only did he blow an opportunity, his inexperience showed. No doubt he had a quick call from Ignatieff over it too, I can hear it now, "Just one cotton-pickin' minute there Jus...er I mean, just one minute there Justin...."
  15. He apologized. The old man would have told the PMO to go fuddle off.
  16. More Trudeau-ian shenanigans from the Star: Trudeau ignites storm after ‘barbaric’ comments of honour killings Feast away.
  17. 2) WTF? He is equating himself with Charlie Sheen. That should explain everything.
  18. They had to "push" for it? Why? Wasn't the CPC competent enough to manage national finances on their own? No selective memory required, but thank God for "the left wing" otherwise we might be a severe depression. This is what you are basically saying.
  19. And that is the point isn't it. For some reason, since 2006, but more likely since 2007 once the CPC had learned the ropes the bureaucracy, the word started to filter down that it was OK to simply go on a contract and outsourcing frenzy. Not a little extra spending here or there, not some sort of easy upward curve - a frenzy. And those sorts of drastic directions are never the work of some sort of anomoly of the hiring practices of the bureaucracy. They were given the green light - not to reform the hiring processes for civil servants, but to bypass the practices entirely. Now one could say this is a phenomenon of the baby boomer's starting to retire, but in a 5 year period the costs went up 79% when there are plenty of people unemployed and plenty of time to train them and develop expertise. Instead of plowing investment into reform - always the CPC catchword, we have a very expensive workaround. And, no doubt, plenty of those contracts went to CPC friendly sources who will mostly likely contribute back to the CPC for the favour. It's an 'in and out' scheme, but by the backdoor. If you know what I mean.
  20. Or course, you completely missed the link to the report that was the source of the article from the Star? You know, the report from the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives? I suppose they are reporting on "this sot of crap" all the time too.
  21. Of course hiring a strangely ineffective person to manage government whistleblowers - which she did by ignoring the lot of them; then paying her a half million to shut up and scram, now hiring outsourced staff...yep, sounds like "integrity" is what drives the Harper Regime.
  22. Interesting article from the Toronto Star: Goar: Harper’s shadow public service I repeat: "Last year it cost taxpayers $1.2 billion. That was 79 per cent higher than when Prime Minister Stephen Harper took power in 2006." Here is a link to the study: Federal outsourcing creating a shadow public service
  23. So I'll say it again, if you cannot back up or provide a legitimate reference for saying "It's the left spin that is talking about selling actual bricks and mortar" then I'll accept this as an admittance that you are making stuff up. Again.
  24. First step: de-humanize 'them' into "vermin." Where have I heard that concept before, hmmmm...
