  1. Oh, I know what the wiki article says, but it says something and it shows there is active scientific research being done on the question. But that is hardly the good part of my post. The good part is me asking you what your theory is. Because you are asking for scientic proof, I want to know what your scientific theory is - or any theory for that matter - so we can compare it to the scientific research currently being undertaken. So please tell me what your theory of 'why homosexuality' so we can compare it, in the open, for all to see how it stacks up.
  2. Smells similar to the exception-as-the-rule fallacy.
  3. Isn't that what the idea behind the options being developed for Ontario health care? Telehealth, etc.? We have clinics nearby, several of them, that have urgent care on the main floor. These have also helped off-set emergency wait times. Even still, our local hospital is pretty much on provincial average for minor or uncomplicated conditions and about 50% higher for complicated conditions.
  4. But these studies seem to show that heart surgery hospital stay times are anywhere from 5 to 7 days in the US. And plenty of links I didn't cite, after a reasonably simple Google search, revealed this to be the common window with the idea that the healthier the patient, the shorter the stay. So it would seem from a glance, that the majority of the data is actually about the patient care requirements and not about Chretien or major pressure on the system. Your equating the treatment of your father with politics and that is a false argument. I fixed the post. I had links in, but the url syntax was malformed. Go back and have a read and the information you are looking for is there. It has nothing to do with politics and everything to do with patient care. I have a friend who works in the quality management department in a large hospital in a large US city. I was recently given insight into their process of evaluation of patient care quality. Each hospital is audited once or twice a year by an independent body that makes their reports available to the insurance companies and will post those statistics and evaluations on-line for patients to check for themselves. Now they collect extensive data on a hospitals infection rate, death rate and a litany of other statistics that are kept and compiled by the hospital from each patient's chart. Basically if they miss the mark, the insurance companies won't pay for the services and the hospital starts to loose funding. In other words - the patient care data cited from a US perspective really doesn't care about Chretied, Liberals or politics, it is more interested in ensuring quality of care so they can keep getting paid for their services.
  5. It's "unlikely" because he is dead.
  6. It would be interesting to see if this flip-flop phenomenon about terrorism could be applied to immigration too. That is, those who shout the loudest against our current immigration policies and numbers would be inclined to offer sophisticated arguments for immigration so long as the immigrants come from the "right" countries. Angus-Reid ought to do a poll.
  7. Biology and sexual orientation - wiki article This gives a decent summary on the science so far. So there is your cite. Now... How about giving up your theory complete with cites. Thanks!
  8. As evidenced by present Conservative government.
  9. What a completely absurd and dumb thing to write. Serious dumb. Not to mention those that are working are having income taxes deducted and all the sales tax "they" pay. And all those million of of other immigrants throughout history that had very poor language skills. The people of Wilno, Ontario salute you. BTW, they are Polish. Poland is in Europe. Yeah, so we need to improve the services we give to them so they perform better. I've said that already. Judging by your opening comment, what you "think" appears to be of little value. What have the Muslims in Canada blown up lately? What's that you say? Nothing? You need to know your Canadian history more. Especially about the FLQ, and the biker wars in Montreal. But then again, someone that has the crazy notion that the exception is the rule would probably mistake a hydro substation for a porn store wouldn't they? I dunno, have you asked them?
  10. Just don't tell the mods on me ok? Or it could mean that we find ways to get them up to speed once they get here. I agree we need to make changes to some of our immigration system. More programs focused on people from Asian and the Middle East. We can use all that tax money that most of them generate to pay for these programs. We could call it a 'head tax.' Or something. The economy has gotten worse, so it only stands to reason. The economy will bounce back and we can look at all that Fraser Institute data in five years and say "whew, good thing we didn't over-react!" In a broad way "they" already have the same generalized respect for the rights of others, including sexual rights, female rights, morality rights, etc. Again, you are citing the exception as the rule. Oh you mean the Squamish Five? I don't think they were immigrants though. Of course the FLQ, Hells Angels and Rock Machine - well, that's different right?
  11. 3-5 days according to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics: According to this 2002 study most got out in under 5 days: But I suppose it depends on the health of patient, from what I read, when I did a simple Google search. But alas, both cites above are from American Institutions, really doesn't say anything about out health care system does it?
  12. Cite your source please. So, if you are saying "small percentage" then you must have access to some numbers. Could you cite your source please? Once you cite your sources as requested above, then perhaps we can see what you mean by the word "evidence." Thanks.
  13. I don't think emmigration, environment or unemployment are problems, do you? I see initiatives to address specific problems, but overall immigration is working fine, unemployment is manageable and the environment is doing pretty good. But that applies to anyone in Canada, not just immigrants. So your scenario is a titch too broad to be useful as any sort of measure of any particular demographic such as immigrants. Most immigrants are employed, paying taxes, buying Canadian good and services, obeying Canadian laws, sending their kids to Canadian schools, etc. What sort of bar do you require? Oh, certainly you do not require them to cheer for the Argos as opposed to Juventus or Rangers right? Supposing that is true, then why not propose what integrated means? I have given you some ideas, how about you give some ideas too? It always has been except in retrospect.
  14. Valueless rant. May Allah have mercy on your soul. You are equating immigrants with "poor families" when those "poor" families could be primo home-grown good ol' Canucks. Fact is poor people, mentally ill people, sick people, physically challenged people, etc., etc. are "are drain on our economy, on our GDP, and on the budget." Meaningless rant and fairly typical of those misguided cranks who truly believe that the exception is the rule. Fact is most immigrants are working, paying taxes, buying our good and services, obeying our laws and buying parkas so they don't freeze. I spent 12 hours in our local mall yesterday and not only did I observe first hand the excellent integration going on in our country, but quite a few "mixed" couples pushing strollers full of little new Canadians. Quite a nice sight to see.
  15. So by using the word "sterilized" you mean neutral right?
  16. So the vast majority of immigrants who ought to be working are; they are paying Canadian taxes; buying and using Canadian goods and services; obeying our laws; and adding to the cultural mosaic of Canada. This indicates they are integrating nicely, just like the vast majority of other immigrants over the past 150 years. Any other view is self-delusion. No, what it shows is that all workers have "have earnings for a number of years that are below their eventual peak earnings" You know, since the general trend is for people to earn more as they grow older. I mean seriously, did you did you dig up that gem from the Ministry of Silly Quotes or what?
  17. Do you infer from the environmental intiatives that the environment is in terrible shape or that because of the unemployment programs, unemployment is a disaster? Well what other evidence do you require? How about immigrant employment rate? No, what is shows is that broad statements can be stated broadly and really don't tell us much. The person working for the uncle, are you talking about immigrants or are you talking about a 4th generation Canadian? Seriously, now you are trying to apply a specific scenario ast evidence of a general condition. Your're making me dizzy now kimmy. But we do know that the immigrant employment rate is pretty good and shows that most immigrants that ought to be working, are. Now, when you have a newcomer than has been here a couple of years do you expect them to be buying Justin Bieber tickets, visit the ballet once a month with and know Neil Young tunes? All you can do - after employment rates and taxes is move the goalposts, nothing more. Raise the bar high enough and you can make it look like NO immigrants integrate whatsoever you yourself know this not to be true. Of course not. But is an indication - especially when the numbers of immigrants increase - that immigration is working for Sweden and Canada.
  18. Ah, I thought you were talking about politicians and public personalities, not people on this board. However, Herman & Chomskys Manufacturing Consent: The Political Economy of the Mass Media is still a damn good read. - wiki article
  19. And also quite simply, one can infer from the immigrant-friendly policies that we are doing quite well, that things are working. Maybe even third-ish in the world like. Perhaps this is the best such an organization can do given the diversity of the meaning of the concept of integration? Sure. So do you believe it yet? The youth of Canada are integrating really well, except for the ones who aren't. It seems to me we have ahd several threads on youth crime, criminals, etc. Do you remember what that unemployment rate was? Was it like 25%? 35%? 51% Or was it something like 12%? Which would indicate to a layman like me, that immigrants have an 88% employment rate, which would further indicate that they are paying taxes and shopping here and that - it might be a bit of a stretch to some - they are integrating somewhat. Yes, I know your tactics kimmy. And I am using them to make advance my impression that all things being equal, Canada does pretty good integrating our immigrants - and always has - despite all the complaints from some members of this message board. Swedish youth are integrating great, except for the ones who aren't. Well to be fair, the Swedes appear to have special considerations for 'Nordic' immigrants as opposed to non-Nordic ones. But the test - overall - is the examine their policies and then examine their immigration numbers - overall. And overall - they seem to be doing it pretty good too.
  20. Nice non-answer, one of the best I have seen in awhile. Now, what is the employment rate of immigrants? And I know why you dare not answer. It's because I am going to knock your argument to pieces with it. But go ahead, I dare you. There, I fixed it for you. Simply changed one word and the whole shootin' match applies to every single Canadian with the exception of a very few.
  21. Sure there are statistics and the key one, which gets completely ignored in this very thread, is the employment rate of immigrants which could be a key indicator of integration don't you think? You know, them working, paying taxes, going to Walmart. What is subjective is what "integration" means to some people. Working and paying taxes, learning an official language, sending their kids to our schools and buying winter parkas, is NOT considered integration in some circles. Which I find rather odd considering or history.
  22. Oooo, flashing their brains... I LIKE that! It would solve all of our problems? Don't like the price of gas?? FLASH! Gas has always been this price.
  23. And a CPC minority might be something the Liberals could be happy with. I can just see the Liberal attack ads now: "With a minority government, the Conservatives were not half bad. But with a majority, they will be fully eeeeee-vil. Vote Liberal. We can't afford to go to Hell." Then it pans to a shot of Prime Minister Harper with crayon devil horns drawn in over one of his sweater vest photos (and the sweater vest is shaded in with some red and white stars and stripes) and finishes with Ignatieff with a halo.
  24. Beauty quote eh? Who are these "many" on the left and how significant are they? Well, I can watch Fox News any damned time I want. I can participate in the American freedom of expression and, right or wrong, true or false, it is very useful and mostly entertaining. Which is all the more humourous. I mean, we have the right-wing going on and on about the liberal media bias; we have the lefties tossing it back saying the media is controlled by giant media corporations. It might be possible - just a suggestion - that such black and white references such as right wing v. left wing have a less accurate application in Canada and her media.
  25. Is the Globe and Mail a "useless, partisan rag" lukin? Is it?? I DARE you to answer.
