Canada's Crime Rate Hits 40 Year Low
Shwa replied to cybercoma's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
You didn't 'estimate' you quoted AND removed it from the context of the article. Typical all-I-got-is-rhetoric-and-nothing-more answer. Of course you ignore all those that could or should be diverted to alternative justice programs, treatments centres, modified detention facilities. Because they are all "criminals." -

Seriously. Where does she "literally" say "don't send criminals to jail because that'll breed biterness and resent towards society." I mean, you went to all that trouble of using quotation marks, so produce the actual line where she is quoted as saying that exact thought. You can't? Then what's with the quotation marks Bob? Are you deliberately misquoting someone? No I am acting like her credentials input into thoughtful dialogue as opposed to the corny bullshit you keep shilling. Seriously Bob - "stupid argumentation?" You are resorting to making shit up and putting quotation marks around them to make them look like somebody actually said what you just pulled out of your ass? Really, you are not even a convincing phoney. Dishonest yes. Convincing no. -
I thought I had posted this as a topic already, but guess I didn't. However, it is an interesting issue since it touches on all those sensitive bits in society, especially nowadays. Protesters oppose Muslim prayer in public schools So it is not against the law to have prayer in public schools in Ontario, you just can't force anyone into it AND you can't have religious services, but you can accomodate prayers and other services I suppose. The neighbourhood is almost all Muslim. Should we worry?

Yeah, it is a little creepy. Like, the guy was on the right track - except for the slaughter of all those innocent men, women and children 'n stuff. Other than that, hooray for Breivik for getting his "message" out. Because most rational people can understand that had he NOT murdered all those innocent men, women and children, no one would have ever bothered with - nor likely heard - his "message." Heck even Breivik himself understood that. WTF? ... -

Perhaps it is, but no less politicized than the Conservative Party of Canada and the many other toadying "think tanks" they may have churning out bullshit to fertilize their fields. But the key thought is, Can you answer this with your "logic?" We all know you have nailed down the whole rhetorical aspect, but do you actually have something positive to contribute to the solution to the problem? I would say you don't. Oh, but it is worth it you see. Because all you can demonstrate is your grasp on simplistic rhetoric without giving a shred of evidence that you have a clue about the problem itself. So far you have demonstrated that you are a top notch pretender, and shouldn't be taken very seriously at all. The author of the article, on the other hand, has actual credentials, experience in the justice system, expertise... The Harper government should be compelled to do so. Open up the debate, engage Canadians in this very important aspect of our society. Instead all we get is farcical rhetoric from their colourful Internet parrots. It's a shame, since I believe - at one time - Cons had the guts to do that sort of thing. Not any more. Too much of a risk of being exposed as unknowledgeable or phoney. Or both. -

On the one hand, people will slough off your "direct personal experience" of they way things are, all the while claiming that their "direct personal experience" is the way things are. Meanwhile, you slough off their "direct personal experience" of the way things are because it doesn't match your "direct personal experience" of the way things are. LOFL! Do you see the problem here? I wouldn't say you have False Memory Syndrome, but you definitely have Grumpy Old Man Syndrome. -

My anecdotes are just as powerful as your anecdotes. As I said, which you neatly ignored, one of the telling factors - perhaps - is that my community is involved with the justice system. We expect to be involved, we demand to be involved. And we get the results of that involvement. If you can't move, maybe consider getting more involved. Why not engage some police officers, form a neighbourhood watch group, get involved in your community's well-being. Because it doesn't sound like you are. -
Doug Ford stepped into it again. And as usual, not only did he produced what he stepped in, but he stepped in it on his own front stoop. If there was ever a reason for more libraries, more Canadian cultural exposure and events and more emphasis on education, Doug Ford is the poster boy. Doug Ford blasts Margaret Atwood over libraries You see, this fits well with what we are starting to see from the "Ford Nation." You can participate, just keep your mouth shut. And that sort of politics has a lot of followers, especially in an apathetic voting world, in an apathetic City like Toronto. There's always duct tape if self-control won't work. Why wait for an election to listen to Margaret Atwood, one of Canada's literary icons? Wouldn't it be better to engage her and see what her ideas are, to see if she has ideas that will improve the policy, to get her views since she likely has a better understanding of Canadian culture and how libraries - and books - fit in? Nah, not with the Ford Nation. They have a majority. The citizens of Toronto elected them. They can do whatever they want in their petty kingdom. Except engage Margaret Atwood. Because she scares them.

I have had the police respond every single time I have asked them. Including shenanigans in a local park, threats to neighbours, petty crimes and potential burglaries. They have solved many neighbourhood petty crimes, including one young moron who was kicking in doors and robbing homes at Christmas time two years ago. A couple of times they have brought one of my kids home due to shenanigans. They are on regular patrol in my solidly, aging, middle class neighbourhood. You can flag them down and ask them questions. They are, for the most part, polite, professional and doing their duty. I know police officers including a neighbourhood family of them that have served locally and currently in Metro. I know homicide, sex crimes and forensic detectives - all of them hard working and doing their job under conditions I cannot fathom. Heck I even know some probation officers and justices of the peace. I met and chatted with a SWAT guy a few weeks ago. So I am not sure where you live, but I would move if I were you. Because your local conditions appear to be giving you an idea of what goes on generally and that simply isn't the case in my city. We even have a neighbourhood watch program going on around here. I suppose that is really the difference isn't it? Around here, people are involved with justice in one way or another. -

Another emotion driven response. You see? Send them up north to a coal mine or something. Now we are getting closer. And while he is mining coal, or trees or cleaning dithches, whatever it is - a work camp - he will be getting paid. And while he is getting paid, he will have the cost of his crimes deducted, including any reparations to the victim. He will then have to pay for his clothing out of his pay with the exception of basic need work issue. That could be a start. As harsh as that sounds, I believe work camps can be good things. Then again, I think the hard timers should be house in a prison in the Arctic with no cells and no shoes. If ya don't got the time, don't do the crime. -

Not the same thing, since there is a direct interpretation for Breivik, but not for Kaczynski with Gore. In other words, the "xenophobic rhetoric" that caused Breivik to slaughter was his own. I suspect the same with Kaczynski. -
Fish, meet barrel: Africa's impressive growth - The Economist, Jan.6, 2011 How do you tell the difference between a social conservative and a real conservative? Real conservatives risk investment in future markets to expand the client base for their goods and services in order to build their business. Social conservatives are more concerned with culture, language and skin colour. They take no risks because they are a trembling lot of cowards. So Bob, after a 30 second Google search I have basically proved that you have no idea what you are talking about broadly, let alone with details. It would seem you are pulling the wrong things out of yer arse. You might want to first start with your head next time.

Kids change your lifestyle, that is for sure. But for the better. Plus, when you have them, you don't have to give up on all the fun, just make adjustments here and there. Lifestyle is way overrated anyways. It's basically junk and fading memories. Kids are people and last longer. Plus they are way more fun than camping. Even when you take them with you.

How on earth are his ideas "justified?" The ideas that led him to mass murder are justifiable, but the mass murder itself is not. Right, the liberally biased media, intellectials, politicians and interest groups waging a disinformation campaign for what purpose? Oh, right. "Cultural suicide." LOFL! Come on Bob, how many mass murders has a liberal committed lately? I am betting that the liberal view AND the resultant acts are far more justified than the ravings of a Right Wing lunatic. Well that is where his justified views logically led him isn't it Bob? First there is the manifesto, then the bombings and killing of children. Where is the real disconnect Bob? -

Exactly dre, it appers to be an emotionalist reaction in the face of fear stirred up for political purposes. This sort of politik is as old as prisons themselves. Fixed ideas, sometimes caused by the onset of old age. The baby boomers are starting to get a little antsy as they grow old. All those young people out there, fornicatin' and stealin'. I think the overcrowding issue is a key issue that can be addressed without breaking the bank, but as Wilber asks - how? To use a familiar Hardner refrain - we need to see the data.... -
It's true. I mean, if you have no money to do anything after supper - like a movie, or drive-in, theatre, etc., you might as well screw.
