Yeah the mayor is busting his butt screaming for help now. But he had the opportunity to evacuate thousands and thousands of people via the 364 school buses. But apparently, he was just too goddamned lacking in his duties to protect the people who elected him. And the Democratic governor is safely tucked away in Baton Rouge, where she ignored Bush's call to her that she should start evacuating. These 2 Democrats were negligent in their duties and yet the leftwingers want to put the blame on Bush. Apparently he is supposed to micromanage every town, city, county, and state in the country. This will backfire on the Democrats. The public has seen their negligence and won't forget it. That was one of the main reasons why they lost in 2004. Would you trust the Democrats to protect you from Islamic extremists? No wonder they are in the minority of all 3 branches of govt and in the minority for governorships. It's much like Canada. Does anyone really trust the Liberal Party to protect this country? Osama named 5 countries on his hitlist. Four have been hit (well Australia was sorta hit - Bali bombing); only one country on his list hasn't been hit yet. Sadly, Canada will likely be hit by Al Qaeda. And who do I expect our govt and many of its citizens to put the blame on? President Bush. It won't be Canada's fault for electing a party that decimated a once decent military. No siree. Local and State govts are to operate on their own without the micromanaging of the federal govt. As long as state laws do not conflict with the constitution and federal laws, all is well. American teenagers learn this in basic high school level government class. Funny how a lot of people blame Bush for not preparing for the hurricane, but it was the local and State govts who were supposed to prepare and or evacuate. If they cannot take care of things on their own, THEN they are obligated (because you are elected to take care of your people) to contact the federal gov’t for additional help. It has worked like that very well in the past. I predict the contempt shown for the Louisiana citizens by the Democrat Mayor and Democratic Governor will be the undoing for the Democrats in 2006 and 2008. #1. You could define any state as socialist because you are forced to pay for militaries and police forces. Why should I be forced to pay for your protection? Why is it socialist to pay for health care but not the police, our sewers and water etc? #2. The average Joe often does not know what to do with their money. Many people spend money on drugs, booze, gambling etc. I suspect few people would have saved up for Katrina relief. Billy McKinney, former Democrat State Representative of Georgia, who is also the father of former Democrat congresswoman Cynthia McKinney of the same state. During his daughter's failed 2002 reelection bid, McKinney appeared on television where he blamed his daughter's difficulties on a Jewish conspiracy. McKinney unleashed a string of anti-semitic sentiments, stating "This is all about the Jews" and spelling out "J-E-W-S." The Democrat Party and the KKK: Aside from the multiple Klan members who have served in elected capacity within the high ranks of the Democrat Party, the political party itself has a lengthy history of involvement with the KKK. The standoff was settled and the school was integrated only after the intervention of Republican President Dwight Eisenhower. And who was it that signed the Emacipation Act, ending slavery? Republican President Abe Lincoln. Yet you foolishly claim that all Republicans are racist and Democrats have no, or little, history of racism? Argus: I understand a few things about the responsibility of local, state and federal authorities in times of national emergency. The federal govt comes on the scene at the invitation of local and state authorities. It's established under the Posse Comitatus Act. The governor of Louisiana WAS SUPPOSED TO ASK for federal aid before the crisis so it would be IN PLACE. I believe that Americans are taught this in grade school, or at the latest, high school. Louisiana had about, oh, 50 YEARS to built levees that could take the strain of a major hurricane that THEY KNEW WAS COMING. So, unless Bush is really H.G. Wells 'The Time Traveler...' But according to Argus, everything wrong in the world is Bush and the republican's fault. I suggest you teach us all by standing out in the streets of your hometown with a sandwich board proclaiming this. Then you will have fullfilled your role in life. Please, go! Go now! Bush is completely to blame for this disaster. As the storm made its way towards the Mississippi Delta, Bush refused to use his Merlin's Magical Wand to ward away this menace. As the levee broke, he refused to use the heat beams from his eyes to weld it back together. And to this day, he refuses to to fly around the world counterclockwise at light speed to reverse the flow of time so that adequate preparations could have been made. But he seems perfectly willing to erect a forcefield to prevent National Guard troops from other states entering the affected areas. Local government in Louisiana and New Orleans just never could quite find it in themselves to worry about hurricanes unless somebody else would pay the bill. Of course, all of this is Bush’s fault. Argus has this quaint notion that it is the citizens of Alaska’s responsibility to pay for a levee protecting the people of New Orleans. Because, as we all know, when people refuse to take an interest in their own well-being, it immediately becomes everybody else’s responsibility to pay for their excesses and indifference.
