  1. Same problem... Lets say you sign a mortgage with your bank to buy a home. Youre making an agreement based on the purchasing power of the dollar at that time. If the value of the currency doubled during your term you would be surrendering twice as much wealth as you origionally agreed to. Or lets say you want to hire an employee... sign him to a three year deal... if the dollar increases you are paying more in terms of real wealth than you agreed to. How can you base anything but spot transations on a medium that you cant predict the value of for the duration of the deal. The more stable the units you base transactions are, the more transactions there will be.
  2. No sorry youre just absolutely wrong. Israel gets about 1/3 of its drinking water from the west bank, and actually DAMAGES its own security by building settlements there as opposed to enhancing it. Its major settlements are build right around riparian points on the mountain aquifier. They are also the only country in history to put its water works department in control of the military, and in the west bank they enforce strict quotas on the palestinians who are allowed to used only about 1/5 as much water as an Israeli. And the water is even more important to Israel because the water levels in the Sea of Galilea are dropping. Ariel Sharon described giving up control of the mountain aquifiers as "accepting death". http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/History/watermap1.html Yes Israel is also a world leader in water conservation for a reason... water is a vital national security issue, and its the issue the precipitated this entire conflict. Israel has the misfortune of being downstream from various countries that dont like them very much in a very dry region. Its been bombing water diversion projects and fighting for control of the river Jordans headwaters since before it was even officially a country. In 2003 they threatened war with Lebanon because the lebanese were pumping water out of their own lake... http://www.greenleft.org.au/node/26297 Of course people like you and others are obsessed with the religion and terrorism angle so you ignore the actual underlying causes of the struggle there, but they were well known. In fact if you look at the Johnstone plan which is one of the first American attempts to resolve the conflict it centered almost completely around desalination and providing ISrael with other options to supply its water.
  3. You now whats theft? The refusal the media producers to issue replacement media. If I go and buy a movie I am purchasing a license to use that intellectual property for as long as I like. The problem is they intentionally sell it on non durable storage mediums... Non durable crap like CD's and DVD's. So once my CD or DVD is useless and I want to replace it Im charged the full price again... even though I already bought a license... instead of being charged a couple of bucks for manufacturing costs. This in itself is actually a violation of copyright law... and a scam that has allowed media companies to steal billions of dollars. So its kinda hard to feel sorry for these dinosaurs.
  4. Im not critical of SK's outrage. I think their response has been fairly carefull and well reasoned, which is exactly what Iv been advocating in this thread. As much as you guys are just cumming in your pants hoping for a big war you can watch on TV from thousands of miles away, the South Koreans dont find the idea quite so appealing.
  5. Right but Im not saying that we should stop them from engaging in this behavior... Im saying the government should not support this kind of behavior with funding. And theres no religious right to free public money. Nobodies rights or freedoms would be violated in any way if public funding was revoked.
  6. Iv spent a fair ammount of time around these kinds of incidents and I can tell you that kicking and punching suspects that are already restrained are causing little threat is basically standard operating procedure. For every video like this that we get to see theres a few hundred similar events that dont get taped.
  7. They arent settling the west bank and drilling wells there for self defense. Theyre doing it because they want the resources there. They need the water. And thats exactly why Israel expanded into the areas they did during the war.
  8. Hilarious... you think theyre going to reject violence while Israel is building settlements on their land? Thats utterly unthinkable and impossible. And Israel knows this... do you honestly thing for a second that if Israel had even a passing interest in resolving the conflict they would be building new settlements in the west bank? An act they know cuts the legs out from underneath potential moderate leaders in the occupied territory, and guarantees that palestinians will never reject violence? And Israel isnt "lashing out". They have a very carefull and well thought out strategy thats been on course for decades. They are trying to expand and most importantly they are trying to secure permanent access to the water resources in the west bank, by building enough settlements there that it becomes logically impossible for them to ever leave. Oh and BTW... prior to the latest intifada there was a few years of the closest thing to peace and relative calm that there ever has been, and the PLO was able to pretty much keep their militants in check. What happened? SETTLEMENT BUILDING INCREASE, then a prominant Israeli politician made sure violence started in force again by goign to the temple mount with armed troops and police. You think this is about security but it isnt. These is a garden variety dispute over land and resources. Israel wants the west bank and most importantly the water resources on it for itsself. The palestinians want it too. You have to be utterly blind to believe EITHER side has any interest in peace what-so-ever based on their actions.
  9. Im not suprised by this... Canada has been the best run Country in the G8 for well over a decade.
  10. Sweet! More whining about Canadians. BTW... Did you know that during Hurricane Katrina there as crews from Canada pulling survivors from the water before your own Coastguard got there?
  11. Looks like its mostly you guys passing judgement on yourselves. Dont blame Canada because your politicians sit around patting each other on the back while thousands of Americans are floating face down in their own feces, or your coast line is being polluted by oil. Jesus.
  12. Yup I could go on and on about all the idiotic shit Arab government have done over there. And if this was a thread about Canada sticking its toungue up te ass of an Arabic belligerent state actor I probably would.. but of course its not. I have zero support for the zealots in control of either side... just sympathy that or the most part its innocents on both sides that bear the brunt of that zealotry. Id actually like to see the guys that want to fight kill each other... if militant arabs and jews could climb inside a big stadium and fight to death with stones and clubs Id be the first one lining up for tickets and laughing my ass off while they eviserated each other. But unfortunately the shit disturbers, instigators, militants and zealots arent usually the ones doing the dying... its everyone else.
  13. When you take a one-sided view of this conflict you do the same. Those are all countries that flagrantly violate international law. Why shouldnt they be lumped in together? The building of settlements in the occupied terrority is one of the most aggregious breaches of international law going on in the world today. Not to mention the constant threats against neighbors, the constant violation of soveriegn airspace. Then theres the way they treat people living in the occupied territory... like feces basically. Not to mention this is a country that steals and forges CANADIAN passports to use in other acts that violation international law, and a nuclear rogue that tried to sell nuclear weapons to South Africa. Dont blame me for the fact that Israel is a belligerent actor that ignores international law.
  14. The US failed to live up to that deal as well... They reneged on their promise to deliver a certain ammount of fosil fuels. Not sure yet... seems like a really stupid thing to do. Might have somthing to do with the Korean war, and 40 thousand foreign troops amassed on their border? Not to mention some retarded cowboy named them as being part of an "axis of evil" then proceeded to destroy one of the other countries named. Of course. But that has no bearing on whether its in South Koreas best interests to escalate the sinking of a ship into a major regional war that will quite possible go nuclear.
  15. Actually Israels interests compell it to pursue the status quo, not a settlement. Its your view of this as a one-side goodguy VS badguy conflict thats extremely narrow. BOTH sides have done literally everything possible to scuttle the peace process at every juncture. Id crash the whole internet if I even TRIED to post a list of all the stupid things these two gangs of morons have done to each other.
  16. Canadas self interests compell us in the case of the US. But when it comes to rogue states such is Iran, Israel, North Korea, etc, that consistantly violate inernational and humanitarian law, and non state actors such as Hamas, Hezbollah etc that do the same thing contact should be extremely limited or non-existant.
  17. Id rather see Canada tell both of those idiotic gangs of biblically motivated shit heads to go fuck themselves.
  18. Thats funny I see the opposite... It's South Korea thats taking a very carefull approach to this and trying to avoid the type of kneejerk reactionism you guys are recommending... VS a couple of guys on an internet forum thousands of miles outside potential blast radius that are beating the drums of war. Go figure.
  19. Problems is if youre the South Korean leader you have to weigh the isolated incidents that have taken place over the last 60 years against the cost of full scale war, and that equation isnt very tough to understand. Hes also aware of the fact that the Koreans who would die on both sides in such a war have nothing to do with these attacks. Not to mention he's likely being stenuously advised against it by all of their allies and every single military analyst on earth. In any case... I have no doubt you WOULD start a massive war and quite possibly a nuclear war over a sunk boat. In that respect is lucky for Koreans on both sides that your knee jerk reactionism doesnt project itself beyond internet forums.
  20. Ya well... if gravity didnt pull down so hard it would easier to carry stuff!
  21. Actually its the exact opposite. Money flows from the urban centers to rural communities through ll kinds of mechanisms like agricultural subsidies etc.
  22. First of all... youre the one that started making claims about what experts say... not me. You said "Every pshycologist in the world agrees with you". I tried to find out what the real position of experts in various related fields was on the subject of same sex parents. The consensus is that while there may be some differences theres absolutely no good reason to discriminate against gays, and that there are no issues with developmental dysfunction specific to same sex parents. So if its a factor its a very small one thats not really worth considering. The factors that are much more important are the character of the parents, their ability to provide for children, the stability of their relationships, level of responsibility, absense of substance abuse probems etc etc etc. Gender is simply not an important factor.
  23. Yeah that seems right. Heres some analysis that was written in the context of a strike to take out NK nuclear facilities, but is relevant to the current showdown as well... http://cns.miis.edu/north_korea/dprkmil.htm
  24. All your facts are wrong Morris. First of all you think theres 36 Koksan guns when theres 500-700. They are configured in 36 vehicle batteries which I assume is how you got that wrong. All those guns can reach Seoul. As can the 200+ rocket launchers and Scuds. Heres a realistic analysis. Heres a realistic assessment based on what western intelligence believes the numbers to be.
