  1. It's very much the truth. http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/article/890282--fantino-needs-to-tell-voters-where-he-stands-critics-say http://www.stalbertgazette.com/article/GB/20101102/CP02/311029758/-1/SAG0806/former-mp-inky-mark-blasts-tory-nomination-process-as-undemocratic&template=cpArt
  2. Oh I know, I just didn't want to be rude.
  3. If being rejected by the UN is a badge of honour, why bother with putting up the time and capital required to try and win a seat? The notion that this is a badge of honour is partisan spin to make a serious defeat look less odious. As for the "moral" position on Israel, I don't know how moral a position can be if we favour one group of people who committ human rights abuses over the other. Just because one group elects the people who committ the absusers and the others don't doesn't make it any more or less moral. Both sides are at fault in the conflict and anything less than neutrality between the two on both sides (people like to automatically take that as being pro-Palestinian, I'm not, I'm anti both sides)is merely playing favourites in a war of cyclical violence both willingly engage in. I'm not an expert but tht's not exactly a moral position, is it?
  4. I wouldn't say it's rich versus poor. You're completely right that the Conservatives have been making a lot more money than the Liberals or the NDP, but in a world where a party can only spend a certain amount of money, at a certain point that fundraising gap doesn't matter. Unfortunately for the CPC, that time was gone about a year ago. The LPC has paid off the debt on it's last campaign and currently has enough funs on hand to spend to the cap for the next election. If money mattered to the extent you're arguing, just because the Tories are rich, downtown Toronto would've been painted blue.
  5. He can't really hate cities. After all, his riding is in Calgary. I think he hates certain cities, but even he realizes that despite this he's got to pony up some money once in a while.
  6. Ignatieff doesn't run local elections personally, you know. Politics in this country is still very much done on a volunteer basis. Campaigns for general MP elections are organised per the riding association. For by-elections the party will generally send out some staffers to do door to door work but in the end, when you look at the sheer political outlook of the riding and the money it costs to run a campaign, it may not be wise to dump that much cash into it. A conservative such as yourself may look at that as a spit in the face to rural Canada, but it's just politics. It doesn't mean Ignatieff's rural policies are bad (they might be, I haven't read them), but that's just the political reality. I live in the 905 and the CPC dumps tonnes of money into suburbia and during an election there are signs EVERYWHERE around where I live because the ridings were in play. I went to school at the St. George Campus in downtown Toronto and nothing was to be seen. We organized a debate for the local candidates in Toronto Centre and the Conservative candidate didn't even bother to show up. He was blown out of the water by 30 points. Foregone conclusion and everyone knew it. Does that mean Stephen Harper hates cities? I don't agree with his policies but he hasn't exactly left cities to rot. If we're going to be asking whether or not politicians care, we should be looking at their policies and not how many signs volunteers can put up. Let's remember most signs go on private property and have to be requested. Considering that it's a solidly Conservative riding, one can assume that they won't be requested. Also, considering the Dauphin-Swan River-Marquette looks to be almost the size of Southern Ontario...well...I'd be surprised you'd see many signs to begin with. I'd more argue that the lack of signs means the party believes that they can't win the election. Does it mean they don't care? Absolutely not. A ridiculous notion.
  7. You do realize that I made the argument that the only government to run a surplus was the Chretien/Martin governments. Nothing I said goes against what was said here.
  8. Incredibly interesting issue brought up by the Economist on the complete unjust nature of American Sex offence registry. http://www.economist.com/node/14164614?story_id=14164614
  9. The government was in deficit before the recession.
  10. Is it just me or did Chretien and Martin run massive surpluses and actually executed on Conservative promises of paying down debt? Oh yeah, that's right, pretty much the only government in the past 40 years to run balanced budgets; surpluses Harper eliminated in a year. Gee, what an economist.
  11. I guess it's only "The Red Star" when it's not good for the Tories, right? I've seen plenty of Conservatives quote the star when it was in their benefit. Playing victim only works when you're actually a victim.

  13. You do realize that many, many, many other meetings other than face to face meetings happen at lower levels of the bureaucracy, specifically foreign affairs during the meeting period of a G8/G20, right?
  14. All rhetoric, no fact. We'll see what Mr. Ford is able to accomplish.
  15. I tend to think he's quitely being gently pushed out the door as well. The scuttlebutt over the dispute with the UAE is that MacKay was for a deal, Harper cut him out of negotiations completely. Could be bad will boiling over.
  16. The poll I posted was put in the field between Nov. 3-9th. This is also with 12% undecided. Decidedly not good for the government.
  17. Depends. Lots of undecideds, incredibly low numbers for the government, general feeling that the country isn't going in the right direction. In an environment, things can change fast but only in an election writ and depends on the issue. If Harper acquiesces to the American Government on asking Canada to do "outside the wire" training - IE limited combat mission in Afghanistan, could be a snap election issue. A lot of people feel really strongly on this.
  18. Considering he wouldn't even talk about whether he had been in negotiations with said law firm make this incredibly unclear. Prentice, now rumours of MacKay, seems to be a rift forming in the caucus down old party lines.
  19. Didn't I just say these people should be thrown in prison? Funny, you're position on how money should be spent moves pretty much in line with the CPC. If you're ok with money being spent in this frivolous fashion, at least be kind to argue next time around that real conservatives really aren't worried about saving money for tax payers.
  20. Conservatives: 29.4 Liberals: 28.6 NDP: 19.3 Green: 10.7 Bloc: 9.3 http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/ottawa-notebook/ndp-makes-gains-amid-startling-tory-liberal-deadlock/article1794816/
  21. The globe ran an article about this yesterday. Despite the paper's right lean in terms of business matters, they emplored the government not to sell the company. Not necessarily because they shouldn't sell it, but that because there have only been 2 offers which are drastically undervalue the true worth of the company. These companies also don't have the resources to fully develop the new reactor that AECL is currently designing. Due to this, the company would still need further investment for the government down the line to develop it. If it doesn't get that funding, the company essentially becomes a refurbishment company for all the old CANDUs and destroy's Canada's long tradition of being a leader in terms of developing nuclear technology. In lehman's terms, even a sale leaves the government holding the bag on all the risks and none of the rewards. Selling AECL is just a really bad idea.
