Stephen Harper, rumor of knighthood
Jack Weber replied to Topaz's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
There ain't much of Communist China left... They've replace the hammer and the sickle with the axe wrapped in sticks... Authoritarian Capitalism and all... -
That's not what I'm getting at... Those hand guns that get into the hands of criminals were, for the most part, legally purchased at one time...I'm assuming... The fact that they can be easily puchased in large quantities is the most likley reason for the illegal proliferation of those hand guns, yes?
-
Derek, honestly I don't give a shite about guns or your obsession with them...I don't own one and have no need to... But do you think the relative ease with which one can puchase a hand gun in the US (which are made for killing other human beings) is one of the reasons for the proliferation of illegal gun use?
-
I think the arguement he's trying to make is that gun restrictions have no bearing on crime... But his choices for comparison are a little, shall we say,odd... Wyoming has a population the size of the city of Hamilton, and it's mostly rural.Vermont isn't heavily populated and is relatively mountainous. And Alaska...Why don't we compare the NorthWest Territories and Ontario??? I also think that it's fairly obvious that Derek is a self admitted gun freak (my words, not his)..
-
Do you really think restrictive or,as it may be,unrestrictive gun laws are the underlying reason for high crime in NYC or LA??? Seriously?? And the questions were a total population of the States of Vermont,Wyoming, and,Alaska (could you pick a few more rural places???) opposed to the states of New York and California? And do you think there's a huge difference in the socio/economic climate of Compton and Casper,Wyoming?
-
Yeah....But it doesn't mean that it fits your idea that everyone should legally allowed to pack heat... And you didn't answer the questions...
-
A little simplistic, don't ya' think?? Firstly, could you provide a simple total population difference between the combined totals of Vermont,Wyoming, and,Alaska and the states of California and New York... And do you think the socio/economic climate of Compton is comparable to Casper,Wyoming???

Having been on the continent more than a few times, climate change might be a factor...That climate change is most likely exacerbated by the advancing Sahara Southward... It is also historically instructive to note that famine isn't an uncommon thing in that region, and in 1985,was a generally "man made" famine... I point to the exploits of one Col. Mengistu in Ethiopia and the historical nature of "man made" famine as the chosen mass motivator of Marxists... See: The Holomodor and Chairman Mao's "Great Leap Forward"....

Is this another Jane Creba situation all over again?

The 7 Contradictions of the Occupy Movement
Jack Weber replied to August1991's topic in Political Philosophy
Then Marx' theories were more infantile than I first thought... If he felt a societal revolution was neceessary, and to a certain extent he may have been right, the fact that he couldn't (or wouldn't) come to some sort of logical conclusion proves the incompleteness of his thought processes... -

Correctomundo!!! Historical evidence?? Check out the divisions within the Republican side of the Spanish Civil War between the Anarcho-Syndicalists (essentially leftist libertarians) and the far more violent and authoritarian Marxists, particularily around Barcelona... -
Canada suffers from Dutch Disease
Jack Weber replied to MiddleClassCentrist's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Remember...This is a governemnt that has no problem intervening into the "free" market to save it's corporate friends whenever it suits them... It's also a government that seems to want to implement a "Made in Canada" "Right to Workesque"" legislative framework (by stealth through the "budget bill") to allow it's friends to make a concerted effort to keep wages and benefit plans down (artificially)... I wonder how this could apply to the resource sector??...Hmmmm??? -
The 7 Contradictions of the Occupy Movement
Jack Weber replied to August1991's topic in Political Philosophy
Agreed... But only matched by the amusing notion put out by the free marketeers that (crypto-Fascist) China is the new model to best represent the "freedom" Capitalism provides... Prettt much infantile thought all the way around... -
Parliament is no longer supreme
Jack Weber replied to cybercoma's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Or even better (maybe?)... "Government" is the legislative arm of business... -
This is about as Machiavellian as it gets... As I understand the Dominatrix of the "Free Market",wages and overtime rules are simply excessive "red tape"?? Do I have that correct? And the Right to Work loving,"Open Shop" lobbying "Merit" Shop folks are singin' the praises... The "free" market downward spiral into industrial serfdom/Dickensian poverty continues with the "freedom" loving legislators taking the point on this one for their corporate benefactors...

I agree... I don't think Baltimore can maintian what they've had until now... The Dead Sox and New York are starting to roll...

Perhaps, but that's the fallacy of Marx' theories... He never accounted for the human failings of Man's lust for power and greed...The very things his theories were designed to curtail! And in all cases when any governemnt implemented Marxist theories they ended up with disastrous authoritarian results... -

Are we thwarting Darwin by keeping losers alive?
Jack Weber replied to Argus's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Considering his preferences for immigration, his opining about the merits of eugenics leaves little to the imagination... -

Jack Weber replied to Argus's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Soooo... Let's forget about Dr. William Shockley and go right to a bigger and better fan of eugenics... I see you line up with the likes of Heinrich Himmler... By the way, this provides a little more insight into your personal preferences for immigration, doesn't it? -

Jack Weber replied to August1991's topic in Political Philosophy
Wrongo... I've asked specific questions and you've dodged almost all of them...Anyone with half a fuctioning brain cell can see your game... I suspect that's because, like most Marxists, history kinda paints you folks in a pretty bad light...Most of that history is by your ideological hero's own making... If you're the easily offended type who cannot take being challenged there are the standard echo chamberesque avenues for you to take... The countdown to your demise here is on!! -
