Yes, if anyone in Canada gets convicted of any kind of assault, even common assault the judge will pretty much always slap a 10 year weapon prohibition onto it.I got a pardon for my crimes, so my record is gone now, well sealed. All of my record was assaults and none were with weapons. I had poor control of my emotions and would lash out physically.
All the same as long as someone isn't banned from owning firearms they can apply. If you're banned, even applying will get you charged again with a breach of a court order.
Edit- if you breach a 10 year ban you'll most likely be rewarded with a lifetime ban...lol.
