This is a Bob Rae proposal...how sad. Liberal supporters will not even shell out $20 for a membership to their own party...wow. SO Bob Rae wants to give them away, I find this hilarious.

Canada's military has been neglected to the point where every single branch needs an overhaul and new equipment. Why not build it in Canada putting Canadians to work instead of relying on outsiders to build it for us. We need it no matter what so let's have Canadians build them for Canadians. It would create many many jobs for decades.
-
Agreed but let's build them here in Canada instead of buying them from some foreign land. Lets have the CF driving, flying and sailing Canadian engineered and built equipment. We have top minds and facilities right here in Canada. Built by Canadians for Canadians. Maple Leaf Forever should be the mantra of the day. Anyone who doesn't know what "Maple Leaf Forever" is should look it up and listen to it on you tube. It should have been our national anthem instead of what we have now but that's history.
-
Alright M.Dancer explain how what I would propose wouldn't keep Canadians in work for decades. One single ship takes over a year to build.
-
Wulf we agree on many points but even I don't want to see Canada become "armed to the teeth", it's overkill. I would like to see the cf-18's replaced with something better like the raptors or better yet, a jet designed and fab'd in Canada. Along with a revamped Navy stocked again with Canadian built ships and subs. Not ot mention ground force armaments. All built in Canada. That would provide Canadians with jobs for decades and would work to reverse the tide of anti-nationalism we as Canadians seem to be adverse to.

With Christmas coming, probably not. He'll introduce one major bill and a few minor ones and call it a year unless something else happens. You're playing games jdobbin and you know it, lol. No NA leader can get crazy and too heavy before year end having all that time with family to discuss it but I suspect you know this and are yanking our proverbial(sic) chain.

2009 Deficit could hit $14 billion
Mr.Canada replied to BC_chick's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I like a deficit as much as you do jdobbin but Harper's going to do it anyhow. $3-4 Billion dollars than none next year, so he says. We'll see I guess. Mr. Dion has the luxury of being able to say anything he wants because theirs no way to prove or disprove it. It's a cheap shot imo but hey, this is politics and it's all about cheap shots lol. -
Ah, now I see what you're saying. He cannot very well make it his first order of business with the economy ruling the airwaves can he? The answer is no. I'll wager it's not off his list but he must show action on the economy first, then he can move onto this or something else. If something else newsworthy happens in the soon in terms of major violent crime I'd look at Mr. Harpers agenda getting shifted. I'm talking another Jane Creba here. I see you're point. A strong leader needs to be mobile and have the ability to change gears according to the surroundings.

Do you know something I don't jdobbin? You may well and I'm willing to learn, please expand.

I like you Oleg, I always enjoy your posts and recently learned you're a female through your posts, I welcome the fairer sex of course. It's a nice change of pace. I'm in my early thirties but still have that boyish charm ...Yeah, yeah I've heard it all before...hehe. I have mucho confidence in myself and get paid to talk for a living, I'm basically a lobbyist in short. I'm sure many here have seen me or at least read me, I'll say no more about that. Confidence woman would be more accurate, no? Keep it up, I enjoy your posts. No sarcasm either.
-
I like how you ignore the rest of the post which was predictable. You know it's true...lol. Thanks for agreeing with me Oleg!

He doesn't need to. With a lame duck leader sitting as the opposition he can govern as if he has a majority. LOL, it's really quite sweet. Will Dion vote down the government? Not a chance. The PM can do as he likes for the next few months with no serious opposition. I'm sure this will drive the NDP and Bloc crazy. I can't wait for the new topics about Harper(s) bully tactics which will of course be lies. Next election the Bloc and NDP will attack the Liberals and the CPC will just sit back and watch the show.
-
I don't think any of the previous posters even watched those videos at all. If they did, they didn't comment on them as it would have made them all blush.
-
Just like Chretien waited for the newly minted CPC? Knock it off. I think Harper wants revenge for Joe Clark(s) embarrassment. Except this time the CPC will win a massive majority.

Layton opposes everything the Pm proposes, it's just more partisanship.

Who's to blame for the Budget Deficit?
Mr.Canada replied to drewski's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I want the GST scrapped but in order to do so tey must cut spending by the same amount that the GST brings in which is completely acceptable to me. Given the economic times at present we need to cut all non essential spending. This isn't the time to give massive cash to pet projects and the special interests. Special interests have run this country for long enough. If the special interests cause is so great than they should have no problems raising their own cash. I don't want to pay for it anymore. -
Gays are really a tiny minority and I wouldn't live downtown Toronto or in any major university city where gays are going to live, they just happen to lobby very well. What percent of Canadians are gay? 1%? If that. C'mon. People like me are in the majority across the country plain and simple. If gay marriage can't pass in California, arguably the most liberal of all the states what chance does it have here if we had a similar vote on it? If it was added to the federal vote it wouldn't.

New laws for young drivers?
Mr.Canada replied to Chuck U. Farlie's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Guyser, I totally agree with the new law but if we limit the teens in a car driven by a teen we are putting more autos on the road. How is this environmentally friendly? Big oil will be happy I'm sure. If we can raise it to 4 teens it would be much more enviro friendly and would make more sense. I fully support having a designated driver in this configuration. Let's put some of the onus on the young people and educate them not lord over them with daddy knows best. -
Ottawa weighs asset sale to avoid deficit
Mr.Canada replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Ok, I'll break it down further. If you belong to any union and go to the first union meeting called an orientation. The union explains it like this...if you take 1 pencil, you can break it easily, if you take 10 pencils in one hand you can break it but it's harder to break. Now, if you take 100 pencils in your hands and try to break them all you cannot do it. That, in essence is what a union is all about in a nutshell. That's the classic explanation of how a union works. We use also use this when organizing in a new workplace looking for pay and benefit equity. In order to become a plumber and/or electrician requires a great deal of schooling in fact. Apprentices require about 32 weeks of schooling depending on the structure however these are trades and in being trades need to be balanced by on the job training which is the nature of trade work. Any journeyman being payed their worth works jobs with proper gigs with all permits and safety inspections. I cannot speak on the nature of waste management other than to say that it's a job that many do not want to do. In saying that there are many other jobs than just garbage collection. People need to repair the trucks, people need to keep the lights on and pipes from bursting which equals licensed trades which costs money. -
The Federal Liberals deserved to get turfed when they did. They needed to clean house and if they prove that they have done that they'll get elected back in eventually. No one party should be the governing party forever and all being said PM Harper hasn't done anything drastic or radical as far as I can see. They've behaved like more of a custodial government then anything else. The left don't like him, not because he's some ultra right neo-con, which he isn't but because well, they're on the left and whomever isn't in power looks at themselves as victims. Right or Left.
-
Seems like they are trying to create a system like ESPN where they have espn4 showing "sports" like bridge tournies, but w/e if it generates some revenue for them then good on em' I say.
-
For me, I don't care if they want to marry and they perhaps should receive the same benefits as traditional marriages. Times change and this is a reality and some changes may be warranted. The thing I have a problem with is forcing religious institutions to marry them and to disagree with gays being married is hate speech. By all means get married and enjoy the benefits of such just don't tell me that I have to agree with your lifestyle and have my church marry you.

New laws for young drivers?
Mr.Canada replied to Chuck U. Farlie's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
The only thing I have a problem with is the 1 other teen passenger allowed. That just creates a situation where there'll be more cars with young drivers in them and this isn't good. It kind if destroys the dd thing. Teens are going to drink and I think if 1 person is the dd and can give 4 of his mates rides home safely, that is a good thing. This will lead to more teens drinking and driving not less. Take away the limit and put it at say four teens per auto and I like it. -
Peter Milliken retains position as House Speaker
Mr.Canada replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
He's a good one for sure. If more of the Liberal party were of his ilk I'd strongly consider voting for them. If I was in his riding I'd most likely vote for him. -
Ottawa weighs asset sale to avoid deficit
Mr.Canada replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Many of the unionized workers make way too much money per hour for sure and I know guyser will agree with me on that one but many unionized workers are paid fairly and justly. City workers and autoworkers are the two I think of when I think about it. However Argus is 100% correct. It's the unions job to push for forever higher benefit packages and the establishments job to shoot low. Imho the establishments give in way too easily and these two wage groups are way too high. A fair wage for these two groups should be $32/hr at top rate, which would take 5 years to get to. City workers and the auto makers are two hard jobs that has a lot of public safety involved so they should be paid for it. A journeyman electrician or plumber who works construction will make $32-35/ per hour and these two groups should be in line with that imo. As it is now they both make upwards of $10 in excess of that figure that I stated.
