Read... liberal

Embarrassed? That would be for self-loathing types who have a guilty conscience. Those who insist on getting their rights, for political correctness. This woman should be arrested, and hopefully will be if she tries this anywhere else in the country. Free speech be damned. She complains about political correctness, but then whines when her own rights have been denied? This was Canada's answer. Best thing that coulda happen.

No, because you liberals just want to let anybody with a potty mouth shoot their shit, as long as they look good in a bikini.
-
Not me, I wasn't there. Apparently a bunch of other people in Ottawa decided. It was "we the people".

Sure, allow her to prove she is an idiot. That might work, to people who have intelligence. It's not a big deal when it's just some freak on the corner that people are ignoring. But if she is such a fool, why bother with a discussion any way? Thats exactly what I mean, waste of time. There have been speakers and ideas put forth in the past that if left unchecked eventually lead to disaster for a civilized society. What if a person begins to attract a large crowd, not necessarily because their point is well made, but their delivery mesmerizes the ignoble masses. How is that helpful, or conducive to any kind of necessary debate? We sent Zundel away for questioning the holocaust, because he was starting to get a following. Not all free speech must be protected. That's the liberal poison in your minds.

The problem with this is, no debate with an Anne Coulter can be "civil". I see no value in attempting to be reasonable, or expecting an intelligent debate with someone who frequently uses words like raghead, etc. It's the bleeding heart liberals who are outraged that she doesn't get to have her say. You people and your insistence on giving anyone the right to speak freely. Ok then, how about we give David Duke some air time as well, or Ernst Zundel, or Ayman al-Zawahiri? Of course we won't be doing that either. Complete waste of time.

Very good. It works because most people can only pay attention while the TV is on, or until the next hysterical news story comes out about some scary sounding disease or a dead celebrity. Fear keeps people distracted, so they have no memory.

The conservative in me says this was a good move. A little less free speech, a little more shut the hell up

I guess the question is, whether or not it can be interpreted that she is inciting hatred that "is likely to lead to a breach of the peace..." It seems to pass the test for me.

Sounds to me like reasonable grounds for her to be arrested in Ottawa tonight, then.

Women are indeed included, but not just women, anyone with a gender.... http://www.chrc-ccdp.ca/publications/report_moon_rapport/page2-en.asp So she could claim that as a white, American, Christian, Female, of a certain age and marital status, inclined sexually towards something or another, with boney wrists.... So please explain to me, all of you, while you natter on and on about this silly person, how it is that HER comments do not qualify as hate speech, in themselves?

It's just that when I saw the media clip, I thought I was watching comedy central.

Who the heck is Anne Coulter? Some kind of comedian?

Should we abolish Canada's Human Rights Commissions?
Sir Bandelot replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Free speech is a very difficult issue to deal with. We certainly don't have free speech in Canada, since we deport people for things like writing pamplets that question the holocaust. On the other hand, Adolph Hitler was an excellent orator, if you know what I mean. Speech or ideas through words is very powerful, and the right techniques used in the media can swing the opinion of many people. Thus totally free speech could eventually be a threat to the continuance of the state as we know it. -
Nazi-era terminology used by Bloc
Sir Bandelot replied to Topaz's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I don't think he intended it that way, as the cbc article explains Later grilled by journalists, Duceppe denied his comments were a direct comparison to France's resistance movement, claiming his speech was inspired by prominent Quebec author and unionist Pierre Vadeboncoeur, who died last February. But if he did, it's quite underhanded. Remember for Duceppe, it's not about what WE think outside of Quebec, but what the people of Quebec themselves think of it. And of course, the media is eating it up. Now as to the notion of a French resistance to Nazism in QUEBEC, well, ahem... Link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Traitor_and_the_Jew -
I see no reason why a person who is incarcerated should receive any form of payment from the state. Thats ludicrous.

Nazi-era terminology used by Bloc
Sir Bandelot replied to Topaz's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Did Duceppe actually use the word "Nazi" in his statement? I don't see it mentioned specifically in the article. "For now, we're members of a resistance movement," Duceppe told the crowd. "But members of today's resistance movement are tomorrow's victors. Long live a sovereign Quebec!" If that's the only thing he said, I don't see how it must necessarily equate to Nazism. --------- On a lighter note, my spell-checker keeps wanting to change the name "Duceppe" to "Duckweed". Must be written by a federalist... -

I see no reason to get insulting. Call me liberal again and I will report you to the admins! -
You keep going on at length and in explicit detail about what you don't want to see. Sometimes I don't know about you

Wrong. If I am to label myself as anything, I am a conservative. -

The Wrath of Obama
Sir Bandelot replied to Sir Bandelot's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
The Wrath of Obama Thousands carry flag-draped coffins, anti-Obama signs in DC protest Sun Mar 21, 3:52 AM The Associated Press WASHINGTON - Thousands of protesters - many directing their anger squarely at President Barack Obama - marched through the nation's capital Saturday to urge immediate withdrawal of troops from Iraq and Afghanistan. At least eight people, including activist Cindy Sheehan, were arrested by U.S. Police at the end of the march, after laying coffins at a fence outside the White House. Friday marked the seventh anniversary of the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq. Despite the arrests, the protest was peaceful. At the outset, police closed a portion of the sidewalk in front of the White House fence after protesters tried to use mud and large stencils to spell out "Iraq veterans against the war." Once the sidewalk was closed, the protesters stenciled the message on the street using mud they had carried in buckets to the rally. The protesters defied orders to clear the sidewalk on Pennsylvania Avenue in front of the White House and park police say they face charges of failure to obey a lawful order. Sheehan asked whether "the honeymoon was over with that war criminal in the White House" - an apparent reference to Obama - prompting applause. "Arrest that war criminal!" Sheehan shouted before her arrest, referring to Obama. Activist Ralph Nader told thousands who gathered in Lafayette Park across from the White House that Obama has essentially continued the policies of the Bush administration, and it was foolish to have thought otherwise. "He's kept Guantanamo open, he's continued to use indefinite detention," Nader said. The only real difference, he said is that "Obama's speeches are better." ...
