LPC Campaign Co-Chair Advises TransCanada
ReeferMadness replied to cybercoma's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I'm opposed to dirty tricks at election time and one party has clearly demonstrated it is best at that. And once we have all the facts, Elections Canada can determine whether any laws were broken. Really? You really can't figure it out? Yes the tories do have a very friendly relationship with Big Oil and that's why when an email that goes to "big oil" winds up in the hands of the media, I wonder who sent it and why. Surely you can't be against transparency and accountability. Well, Harper clearly thinks it will benefit the Tories because he's been playing it for all it's worth. Maybe you should ask him.- 203 replies

It would be good if the investigation included whoever leaked the email. It's just really lucky for one party that this came out a few days before the election and all. And if one party were involved in dirty tricks, well I'm sure we'd all like to know that, wouldn't we. Accountability and transparency and all.- 203 replies

Ohhhh.... You think he must have broken the law because he worked with a guy who worked with Harper. Makes sense now.- 203 replies

Until an investigation shows that a law, or at least a BoE guideline has been broken, all you guys have is a guy who showed bad judgement and resigned because of it. Let me know when you have something. Or when you know who leaked the email.- 203 replies

The Harperman song is being sung by thousands across the country and there is a website where hundreds are contributing lyrics. Good luck with whatever it is you're trying to do.

LPC Campaign Co-Chair Advises TransCanada
ReeferMadness replied to cybercoma's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
All I'm saying at the moment is I haven't seen any actual evidence of either a breach of the act or the code of ethics guidelines. I'm sure the other parties will be doing everything they can to ensure that it's investigated. And I'm interested in knowing who leaked the email. The theory that they leaked it themselves is dumb. I don't think you can rule out the possibility of a Conservative setup. They stand to gain most by this coming out a few days before the election.- 203 replies

So, everything you've said is premised on your assumption he was lobbying. But the Liberals have said he wasn't involved in any way in energy or pipeline policy. So who/how was he lobbying?- 203 replies

Nobody has explained yet what exactly what they think this guy was giving away. Information? According to the Liberals, he wasn't involved in energy policy. Influence? There is no information as to what, if any, role he was to have in a Liberal Government. It seems like people are leaping to conclusions. It looks bad for a guy on the campaign to be offering advice in the middle of a campaign - but what of it? Based on what I've seen, all he offered was some very generic advice on who to lobby - as if people couldn't figure that out anyway. I don't understand why the media hasn't released the full content of the email.- 203 replies

He's not a registered lobbyist. A lot of people who work on campaigns have day jobs. If you eliminated everyone who might be looking for inside info, how many people would there be left? Because it looked bad. Because the Libs knew it would take them off message. Because the Libs didn't want him selling whatever info/influence he thought he might have. Could be lots of reasons.- 203 replies

And under what conditions do you think the RCMP would investigate? Based on what Kady said in her article, this isn't even a breach of the ethics guidelines. But I do agree that the media should be releasing the full text of the email. I don't like innuendo.- 203 replies

That was going to be my next guess. I thought of him before but he never struck me as the drinking buddy type.
-
So, that's it. It's Glen then.

electionprediction.org is now calling Victoria for the Greens. I take no joy if NDP is deprived of the seat - Murray Rankin is a good guy. But the Greens need another seat.
-
uh oh. Do you build decks?
-
I was kidding. I know it's gotta be Mike.
-
You're drinking buddies with Bill Vander Zalm? That's awesome!
-
That's not true - they are neck and neck in Victoria.
-
Don't think I ever did that.
-
That was bad but it's not cheating on elections. Right wingers tend to care about money but overlook Harper's undermining of democracy.
-
Some - but I doubt it will be huge. And I think calling it a scandal is an overstatement. To my knowledge he didn't break any laws or the code of ethics guidelines.
-
My point is that the bigamy law had little or nothing to do with egalitarianism - it was about enforcing 19th century Victorian morality. The move to egalitarianism came later (which is why I cited the 1920 voting law). And there are women who tired of being told what they can and can't wear.

No, it's not called politics. It's called lying. -
Well, first, I'm a big fan of spending limits. And second, he didn't cheat. You can't in any way compare that to robocalls or the in and out scandal or Del Mastro in chains (hey that last one could be the name of a band)

Which will make you feel much better about imposing your own attitudes and behaviors on her.
