  1. No, there's not going to be peace in the region because there's at least one group of people there who believe that they have a special right to exist there even though the Romans gave them the boot 2000 years ago...
  2. Oh, yeah, that's really brilliant... now let's look at it this way: There will be no peace in the middle east. Unless of course there are no more Israels. How does that sound?
  3. Right, so... how exactly does our sending troops to Afghanistan change Canada's immigration policy? Unless you think that all Muslims should be exterminated, Islam will always exist, and so long as Islam exists, there will always be Islamic extremism. And the latter will always exist wherever Islam exists because it is not an idea that has to be transmitted from one fanatic to the next; it can come about through a warped interpretation of the existing sacred texts. So in that respect, the Afghan mission is useless. Maybe it is leading to the defeat of an organized, identifiable terrorist group, but it will never bring an end to terrorism or make us complete safe from a terrorist attack.
  4. Careful now, by posting the truth you're bound to upset a number of the pro-war faction here...
  5. Funny how White Doors and M.Dancer suddenly lose interest in the topic when they're proven wrong...
  6. I'd be much more confident if Harper wasn't PM.
  7. Interesting: http://www.cbc.ca/world/story/2008/12/23/afghan-report.html
  8. They all believe that Christ is the Saviour?
  9. That's quite naive. While science may have been contributing to the secularization of Western society, Communism was an outright attempt to break from Christian society and went so far as to engage in religious persecution and the destruction of Christian institutions.
  10. That's what you're doing right now, isn't it? Everybody does. No person is free from the influence of others, so it's a matter of try to make the influences more positive and moral. But the basis of your "conscientious" [sic] is what other people have told or influenced you what to think. One of the "mobs" out there is the "gay rights movement" which I'm sure has influenced you to believe that homosexuality is "normal". I think you don't understand what I mean.
  11. So what about freedom from sin? None of those "freedoms" that you list necessarily make one "free"--they restrict the ability of the State to impose its control on the individual. But "freedom of speech" can lead to control and oppression, for people to become ensnared in sinful lives that are not exactly free.
  12. Yeah, I KNEW that it was going to be a video of her. Typical; there are millions of videos of out there of how fucked up Atheists are, try watching a few of those...
  13. Interesting that you should be asking that question...
  14. In theory, I suppose, but then again the Cavalry was still seen as a "component of the modern battlefield" at the beginning (and by some during) the First World War. It takes a real war to prove how feasible military theory is, and we haven't had one of those in a loooooong time. If we look back to the Vietnam, which is the closest that we've come to a real war since the Second World War, a number of tactics can be easily devised to significantly inhibit the aerial capabilities of a more advanced foe. My guess is that if there ever was a serious war with another major power, most of the technical gadgets of the "modern battlefield" would quickly become redundant and that much of the fighting would be done the good old-fashioned way.
  15. I've seen a video of an M1 Abrams tank taking a nice flight after encountering an IED. I suppose the tank was salvagable, but I'm not so sure about the crew...
  16. The problem is solved by not putting Canadian soldiers in the situation they are in, in the first place.
  17. Interestingly, this guy's the "top Tory [sic] fundraiser" and your suggesting that this guy get the nod to gain support from the "urban Jewish" (as opposed to all those "rural" Jews?!?!?!)... The Jewish community in Canada is relatively small, smaller than the Muslim community, the Chinese community, Francophones, Indians, and, for that matter, German-Canadians. Why should Harper be so concerned about the Jewish community? I wonder...
  18. 38% isn't a majority--just ask Stephen Harper... notice, too, when in response to a questions about going in the "right direction" the figure declines from 64% to 38%, this means that fewer people think that the country is going in the "right direction". Feel free to have your 5 year old explain it to you if you still don't get it... you may also want to ask him/her for a few pointers on maturity, because you're now starting to act quite ridiculous...
  19. Awww... just a few days ago I was at five stars, and suddenly after you came to visit I'm down to three... LOL

  20. All things considered, it's kind of disturbing that people would habitually vote Conservative given all that we know about the party and Stephen Harper. This is the kind of blind devotion that has led to so many problems elsewhere in the world, and one can only wonder when that will happen here should Harper remain PM, moreso should he get a majority. This guy lies through his teeth; he calls an illegal election, lies about the economy, doesn't know how much we're spending in Afghanistan, shuts down Parlaiment to avoid a non-confidence vote, plans to stack the Senate with cronies, etc.
  21. This is something that we don't need at all.
  22. Palin is a JOKE. I have yet to see an ounce of intelligence projected from her mouth, yet people are so enamoured by her. Run for president in 2012? That'll be a laugh!
  23. Oh, wait a second... Here's a link to the actual survey: http://www.asiafoundation.org/country/afgh...n/2008-poll.php right direction: 2004 - 64% 2008 - 38% wrong direction: 2004 - 11% 2008 - 32% Oh, yeah, things are getting better...
  24. see post #69 re: POSTING CONTENT.
  25. I'm sorry, but I don't recall writing that. Did you change what I wrote to misrepresent my argument? Like I said, I'm not interested in engaging in a petty spat, the sole purpose of which is to distract from the fact that you are wrong. Just as a reminder, acording to forum rules: "POSTING CONTENT All posts must contain some aspect of an argument or attempt to stimulate discussion." Altering another persons post and then typing "~fixed~" I believe falls into this category.
