  1. I might vote strategically, the problem is: which party? The Liberals and NDP are both strong in my riding, and the Greens will probably be stronger, much stronger. So it's hard to tell which one to go with aside from lawn signs, which are not really reliable anyway...
  2. ~~ bad joke deleted ~~ If Harper gets a majority, I will become and Ontario Seperatist...
  3. No, but I would agree with the statement that the Jewish community has a dispropportionately high amount of influence in politics given its size.
  4. No, because CA is currently being a schmuck over something harmless that I wrote a few days ago and clearly doesn't care what I think and say. The sad thing is that I've been banned from babble.ca for making innocuous comments and arguments, and I thought that this place is better for discussing issues; but if a moderator is going to have a meltdown over calling a stupid comment what it is, but won't deal with the people who are real problems here (M.Dancer, charter.rights) then I don't give a flying f*ck if I get banned from here either. Hanging out in a forum filled with Harper-lovers kind of gives me the creeps, anyway.
  5. No, I'm saying that the party with more experiences is better at governing. Having the same party in power of long stretches of time sure worked for Ontario, but then the Liberals and NDP came to power and screwed everything up; which led to the Harris/Eves regime fiasco. Regardless of who is leader, the country would probably be better off with the Liberals in power rather than a regional party like the Cons.
  6. How about the media doesn't want him to be PM? Hasn't the Jewish community shifted their support to Harper?
  7. As opposed to tax cuts we pay for with service charges. Any relative savings that the consumer got with reducing the GST 5% went out the window when the dollar shot up. Also, if a person doesn't make big ticket purchases, the saving is neglidgeable, so big deal. Why not keep it at 7% and use the money towards cleaning up the environment and social/arts programs?
  8. The thing is, the Liberals are probably the better party, though. They certainly have more experiences when it comes to governance, while the Conservatives have spent much of their existance in Opposition. The Liberals shouldn't be judged on Dion alone. Remember, it was Mulroney that screwed up Canada during the late 80s, and it was the Liberals who had to fix it. And now that we're in a tough economic situation, do we need another Mulroney at the helm cutting taxes (supposedly) and overspending? Nope.
  9. Indians have the same rights as anyone else in this country, and some privileges that the rest of us don't have. If they can't get their lives on track despite this, then the rest of us are not to blame.
  10. As I've stated before, I posted information disproving your supposed facts, which yoy totally ignored. So unless you do the same, please stop acting like a complete fucking retard.
  11. Ultimately, it's the result of indivdiual greed and ireesponsibility. People should not be living outside of their means. If you can't afford it, don't buy it.
  12. If Dion loses the election, maybe he can come here and be a moderator.
  13. This is the umpteenth time that I've seen you accuse people of being a troll and NOTHING is done about it. What the f*ck is wrong with the moderators here??!?!?!?!?!?
  14. There's obviously a number of factors, but the economy and the American election seems to be the most important. A year from now Obama will be president and the economy, apparently according to some, is really going to be bad off, which will mean a sure end to Harper and his Conservatives. A minority will mean another three years at least, and by the time the next fixed election date ( ) rolls around perhaps the economy will be rebounding and he can ride that to a majority.
  15. First of all, I understand the whole issue with costs, although when I went it was just in the $2,500 range. I remember there being a concern about the rising cost of tuition, but as usual the student body was largely apathetic about doing anything about it. Unlike in Europe, university students in Canada tend not regard themselves as members of a class and are simply content to do their time and try and get on with life. It's a sad reflection on how our society has groomed its children to be selfish and individualistic, and this reality was exploited by the Harris government and now the Liberals want to do nothing about it. Whatever the case, the cost is not really an excuse; a person can apply themselves during their stint in the public school system and this will lead to funding and support. Even if they have to take out a loan, they can always pay it back with the job that their university education will get them.
  16. I don't see an independent candidate listed in the election returns for Ajax-Pickering. Doesn't every candidate get invited to participate in the debate. In all of the elections that I've paid attention to, the local independents were always included.
  17. Honestly, I couldn't care less for jobs lost in the oil industry. Everybody in this country has the chance to go to school and receive higher education, and so if people want to go into that kind of work then it's their problem if it doesn't work out. Even if you work a short time in that field, you should be able to save up enough money to see you through until you find another job. People being what they are, most won't, though.
  18. My bad. I meant name.
  19. We do not have an absolute freedom of the press; the media is prohibited from reporting a number of things, such as the age of young offenders, victims of certain kinds of crimes, profanity, etc. and this is not much different; these polls are meant just as much to influence as they are to inform and as a result the outcomes of our elections are always suspect.
  20. I never said they had two positions; you did. I simply stated that the Conservatives would rather have it abolished if it isn't elected.
  21. I don't know. I'm under the impression of some of the cheaper ones cost somewhat less than $10 to produce.
  22. Ban making polls public during elections. Period. I'm tired of all these polls and seeming attempt to subtly influence how people will vote.
