It looks like the 2 Tu-160s had delayed their return to Fatherland... I wonder if this is related.. -
All that does is proves that there's freedom of speech in Russia.

World War III

Let's hope you're right... Although I have seen unofficial Russian reports of the biggest Ukrainian cargo planes transporting tanks to Afghanistan... Now we all know tanks are no good in Afghan - but they would be good to move from Afghan into Iran. He may not send soldiers but taking Georgia into NATO and re-arming it will definitely bolster their little Hitler's ambitions of re-takin the 2 new countries by force and draw NATO into direct military confrontation with Russia. Ukraine is as close to Russia as Canada is to USA. Would USA accept Canada becoming a part of a hypotetical "Eurasian" military bloc "to defend it from USA"? Thankfully the US-sponsored "Orange Revolution" has died out and the artificially installed anti-Russian pro-US Yushchenko's popular support is at a well deserved 6% - and I'm sure they're all in the West of Ukraine. There will not be a civil war in Ukraine or a Russia-Ukraine war - people have begun to see through the "Orange" lies, especially after it was found that Ukraine sold weapons to Georgia and even supplied them military personnel (Ukrainians downed the Russian planes in Georgia) without putting this through the Parliament first. Oh, and the money from the sale went to... they're still trying to figure that out. Moderate Russan-friendly Timoshenko's support is at 36%. Pro-Russian Yanukovich is at 25%. But if US really tries to speed up the process of accepting Ukraine into NATO there may be trouble. BTW, there was not a referendum in Ukraine on NATO yet, all the talk comes from the President and his office. The main purpose of my "Doctrine" post was - do the Americans support the pre-emptive attacks of foreign countries and will they vote for someone who supports them? -

Russell by-law spat sparks bilingual study
PoliticalCitizen replied to Leafless's topic in Local Politics in Canada
Hey guys, while you're arguing about a French / English bilingualism, let me ask you this: Do I as a regular Canadian have the right to see commercial signs in ANY state language? Because when I commute through Markham all I see is Mandarin. Sometimes - if I'm lucky - small print in English. I think it's time to open free MSL classes (Mandarin as second language) for the rest of us... Oh, did I mention that the default language for ABMs is also Mandarin? For English press "2"... -

World War III
PoliticalCitizen replied to PoliticalCitizen's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
The best example of how being the world's only superpower has gotten to US Administration's heads is this: The Bush Doctrine So it went from ATTACK THE "TERRORISTS" to ATTACK THE COUNTRIES HARBORING "TERRORISTS" to "ATTACK COUNTRIES THAT WE THINK MAY HELP "TERRORISTS"" to "ATTACK ANY COUNTRY WHERE WE DON'T LIKE THE REGIME". After 8 August 2008 that definition should also include "PROTECT ALLIED REGIMES THAT HAVE COMMITED GENOCIDE". It is easy to see how even a short unilateral power corrupts the minds and lets the perpetrators feel that they are the CHOSEN NATION (doesn't that remind you of something in the not-so-distant past) that is allowed to do God's will (official name: "Protect the national interests of USA") on Earth. So far WW3 was slow and uneasy - but things are both speeding up and heating up as the sights of former "Wold's Only Superpower" are set on Iran and as it's trying to bring Georgia and Ukraine into the horde of its military vassals. -

Her comments about accepting Georgia and Ukraine into NATO ASAP to "protect them from Russia" - oh boy... And I thought Bush was bad... -
If we ever get to the point (God forbid) that there would be political and economical migrants from Canada to Russia - we can come back to your question... As of right now I think the answer is obvious... But if we come back to the topic - Green Party doesn't even exist (AFAIK) in USA. If May is representing interests of a political body other than Canadian I would guess this should be EU where Greens are strong.

AG, to some extent I agree with most of your points. My problem is not the fact of Canadian soldiers being in Afghanistan per se - I'm sure Canada would have a lot of good things that it would like to do there and in a much nicer way then the Soviets did it. My problem is Canada being a pawn in USA's World War III game that they call "War on Terror". We do not know their true agenda, we can only guess... Oil Pipeline? Base to attack Iran from? - whatever it may be it is not worth OUR soldiers dying for. Just to show you (and some big-mouth kids on this forum) that I'm not a "lonely lunatic" that believes 9/11 was organized by USA check out this CANADIAN poll: http://www.cbc.ca/canada/montreal/story/20...07/911poll.html It shows over HALF of Canadians blame US for 9/11. Similar polls in USA show at least a third of population believes the same. I'm sure the furhter in the world you go from Washington DC the numbers of people to whom the official story not only sounds false but insults their intelligence will grow. It actually is considered a bad joke... You're in the army, right? When a plane crashes, does it evaporate into thin air leaving only the engine? LOL You get the point... I personally support your effort but both the reason that brought our forces there and USA's agenda in the region are dubious.

I agree with the scope and with the method. I disagree with the name and with the speed limit. Most people doing 50+ over the limit are NOT racing. 50+ over the limit on a series 400 highway is 50% over the limit. 50+ in a school zone is more than 100% over the speed limit. The law should use proportion and not a set number of Km/Hour. Oh, and on the 407 it should be at least 170, as 140 is an accepted speed

You mean Berlin, as in the capital of Germany? Retaliation for agression. Alaska was a natural expansion of the Russian Empire to the East, not a colony in a far-away part of the world.

I agree in principle. Historically Russia was never the "Agressor" (with the exception of territories immediately outside of its borders) and always the "Defender". That explains why there are no Russian colonies anywhere in the world. If antagonized for a long time, however, Russia may find both means to project its power and countries willing to join them in that endeavor. I would suspect that projection, as in the past, would be aimed directly and only at the USA. China is just learning to be the "Superpower" - they have a lot to learn. Copying Russian technology can make them #3 at best... If only they could get their hands on an American-made carrier or F-22...

The Green Party after the election
PoliticalCitizen replied to cybercoma's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Aren't US companies "foreign" as well? We have a small Canadian company making electric cars: Zenn. Why don't we start expanding it instead of sponsoring the American polluters? -
Whatever coalition there may have been the attacks on both Afghanistan and Iraq were made without respect of international laws and agreements. Tapes and confessions are hardly evidence... anybody can confess to anything, especially after being tortured in a prison for a while... Is it believable that a "merry band of thugs" (term I totally agree with) would perform aerial acrobatics with absolute precision during their very first flights of commercial airliners? Not to most of the world... not to most Canadians... As a matter of fact there's also tons of un-official "evidence" that "proves" that the whole thing was staged... I guess in the end each person chooses what they want to believe... I am genuinely glad that at least our military appears to be optimistic and enthusiastic about this mission... because the ordinary Canadians are certainly far from it. Another "FACT": Both wars were started by an administration that exploited the USA's status as the only superpower (at the time, anyway) to cynically pursue its geopolitical interests and the interests of the oil and arms indusries with no regard to the loss of tens of thousands of civilian lives, not to mention its BLATANT DISREGARD to the opinions of the rest of the world (including countries - members of NATO). That spells: WRONG CAUSE, and wrong cause means NO VICTORY. PS: AG, if you're in Afghan now - I wish you and your brothers in arms good luck and safe return home. Even if you can't put the fire out you are keeping it at bay - THANK YOU for that.

OK AG, let's take a look at the facts: Fact 1: Wikipedia: "The War in Afghanistan, which began on October 7, 2001, was launched by the United States and the United Kingdom in response to the September 11, 2001 attacks. It was the beginning of the War on Terror. The stated purpose of the invasion was to capture Osama bin Laden, destroy al-Qaeda, and remove the Taliban regime which had provided support and safe harbor to al-Qaeda." It began with 2 countries that attacked a third country. Not UN, not NATO, not even a "Coalition of the Willing". The aggression was justified by the search for an ALLEGED mastermind of the 9/11 tragic eveniments in US, his organization (Al-Qaeda) and the Afghani ruling regime that gave them harbor (Taliban). Results after 7 years: Osama has not been captured, Al-Qaeda's operations in Afghanistan have been disrupted and the Taliban ousted but not destroyed; so we have some goal patially accomplished. However (unless I somehow missed it) there was no evidence found that would prove "beyond a shadow of doubt" that Osama and Al-Qaeda were responsible for the 9/11 tragedy. So a country was attacked by 2 ohter countries based on a suspicion - the equivalent of a sentence being carried out before the guilt is proven. Fact 2: International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) was formed and got a mandate from UN to assist the Afghan Transitional Authority. It is interesting to note that after the initial attack there were almost no US troops in Afghanistan to support the puppet government they installed - they had to get busy in Iraq. In 2003 NATO took command of ISAF. What's ISAF's mandate? Results after 7 years: Hard to measure because of the vague nature of the objectives. Taliban insurgency was not only not eradicated but became more targeted and deadly. National Afghan Army doesn't appear to be able to maintain the "Democratically elected" government on their own. Poppy production is at an all-time high. There were roads and hosptials built which may or may not last. Fact 3: There's simply NO concrete achievable goals defined or set that Canadian forces in Afghanistan can reach in a timely manner so that their departure be "morally justified" or happen after "the logical culmination" of the operation.
