Tips should NOT be taxed
August1991 replied to reason10's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Tell me. IMHO, tip sharing is a local issue of concern to the people involved - usually among workers in one place. I think primarily of how the State collects taxes in a way that ensures people make wise decisions.. -
Tips should NOT be taxed

Collateral? You mean leverage. To do this, you have to create something of value. But I tend to agree that we should tax consumption rather than income. The VAT also reduces fraud. ====== BTW, the US is the only developed country without a federal consumption tax. Guess why. -

Dean wrote a book with the title "Blind Ambition". To say that Hunter Biden did not work for his father is like Dean saying that he had no connection to the Watergate scandal. ==== As a minimum, Dean was actively involved in the cover-up from Sep 1972 on. But his title as counsel to the president prior to 1972 better explains his guilt. Similarly, Hunter Biden clearly took money. For you to claim that Hunter was not an "employee" is absurd. -
Joe Biden = Spiro Agnew

I think you miss the point here. It is the appearance of bribery that matters. Eisenhower famously said that his vice-president had to be "cleaner than a hound's tooth". ==== I happen to think that Biden like Agnew in fact took the money. But in public affairs, it is often a higher standard: the appearance of taking the money. -

For several years, I worked in a position of authority. The appearance of receiving a benefit is wrong. ==== I am appalled that you Democrats excuse this behaviour. I suspect your hatred of Trump explains your willingness to accept Biden. 2024: The Buffoon vs the Crook. You Americans deserve better -

If you think that Hunter Biden has no connection to the president then you are like John Dean who still believes that he has no connection to Richard Nixon. ==== To his credit, Nixon never took money. Biden is a crook - like Agnew -
From what I understand, Toronto's Eglinton Crosstown has been blocked at the Yonge Station. In Montreal, the REM was blocked in the tunnel under the mountain - and then to YUL. At present, the REM works for a few stations - and people can test it. ======= Progressives/liberals/leftists now use the word "transition". I prefer the term "conservative" - IOW, let's see. And they call me "far-right".
-
Harper, Fortier, Charest and Sabia figured out a way to make the world a better place. Well-intentioned Guilbault and Trudeau Jnr encourage others to cause problems - make the world worse. Guys, work together.
-
I'm no transport engineer but I suspect that for urban places, it is better to start with a few stations, short distance, A system where trains can stop, return. Double tracks. Circles are better. ======= As to Quebec, Manitoba - Canada, I am surprised that we still have diesel railways. Our hydro-electricity is so cheap. We waste it to heat our homes. We should use it to move our people and things.
-
With all that said, the MonoRail in Expo 67 also had no driver - no person in front. The REM has no one in front, no driver, And the doors are like in Bangkok. They prevent people from suicide
-
This REM is only a few (five) stations. Along a federal bridge -built, designed for the tram. The tram followed a federal right-of-way. Nothing underground, They tested the system -without people- for several months ===== As a say, we should thank Harper for this.

In Montreal, I recall the phrase of Gerald Tremblay, "Its all that." -

There was a very good BBC documentary about Watergate. I think Eliot Richardson remarked - recalling Nixon - about Agnew: "Those Maryland politicians are all the same." ==== Agnew took money. Biden similarly took money. -

I fear that this thread may become, uh, read. So, let me make a point. America? I could not wish for better neighbors. And you Americans? You could not wish for better neighbours. -
Joe Biden = Spiro Agnew

Agnew was nolo-contondere - no-contest. === Biden and Agnew, they were crooks. They both took money. Yet Obama and Nixon did not. Call me naive but I think that Obama and Nixon were honest. -
Irony is saying something that you think is smart/correct - when everyone else can see and knows it's wrong. Irony requires an audience.

I recall that Justin said that she (Sophie) spoke better Spanish. I recall how a foreign woman - she loved Justin, why she voted Liberal - described their meeting: "Sophie dropped her books. He picked them up."

Your country has survived worse. ==== I am Canadian. Abroad, every so often, foreigners ask me about America. Here's my answer: "In Canada, we think someone has our back. In America, they know that they are alone." -
In Norway, people pay about $3.00 per litre for gasoline. But Norway has only a few million people. Mostly Lutheran. Like Sweden. Swedes avoid foreign problems - unlike we English-Canadians. ===== Unlike these northern people, we Canadians invite others to live among us. We get along.
-
At issue is not taxes or borrowing. It is government spending. To be sexist, does it matter whether your wife uses your debit card or your credit card? It's your money.
-
How all this happened/worked? I reckon Couillard deserves some credit too. ========= Resolving the past? The future is a far better place.
-
I took the REM again. Once again, in front, kids and parents. Like Expo 67! ===== The view to Gare Centrale is weird - a different view of the city. (The Bernard Landry station will never exist.)
