Trudeau Liberals face ruin in upcoming byelections
August1991 replied to CdnFox's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Justin Trudeau, with our simple ballot, is well placed to win a future federal election. -
I reckon that Dunkerque was a battle in a larger war. Because of Vietnam, you Americans won the larger war.

I am real. Perspektiv, you are fake.

Trudeau Liberals face ruin in upcoming byelections
August1991 replied to CdnFox's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I reckon that the NPD will win the Manitoba riding. The Verdun riding? It is a toss-up: 30/30/30/10. Liberal/NDP/BQ/Conservative. Rather than who wins, look at the numbers. I predict BQ. ==== Imagine those Americans and their ballot. -
Both movies involve a rich white guy who chooses to die in a foreign tourist place. In one movie (Bogarde) the guy is gay; in the other (Roth) the guy is not. Visconti is a better director. The images are better. The music better. All things considered, the 1970s film world portrays better this idea of Thomas Mann of the pre-1914 world better than anything any film maker of the 2020s. It is a sad statement: current artists can't even describe themselves. To his credit, Tim Roth made me watch the movie to the end.

Whatever. To you Americans, Reagan won. For the Brits, Thatcher won. For me, the free market won. ===== I first travelled to China in 1983. Deng -not Mao- changed the world.

Let me explain my point: we Canadians (Catholic/Protestant/French/English) get along, have avoided civil war - largelybecause we have counterweights. Yet, we Canadians (mostly men) have gone abroad and died for what we call Canada, this idea.
-
This is a Canadian forum. ==== We Canadians get along. Since the 18th century, the Swedes avoid war.

Well said. ==== WestCanMan, you don't understand what CdnFox is arguing.

Lester Pearson, a soldier in the Great War, understood all these issues. -

10 Sep 2024 Debate: Thoughts After
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
She won because Trump didn't make her say anything stupid. Two crackpots. === I admire you Americans and your Constitution. -
I happen to think that Vietnam was a battle in a larger war. ==== You Americans won the Cold War.
-
Anthropoecene? Wtf? ===== I reckon that you Americans won the cold war - we are free to choose.

This was the Nixon view. Kissinger wisely explained that this was different.

Harris destroyed Trump in debate

Precisely. Harris said nothing - Imagine if Dukakiis had won in 1988. -
CRA (Revenue Canada) -Can they collect money?
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Herbie, I am not ignoring letters from the CRA. The CRA is not sending me letters In fact, I think that I owe them more, I want to pay them a tax. I am asking the federal CRA people to clarify the situation and answer me. ==== Local tax collectors know my situation. I pay with a debit card. -
CRA (Revenue Canada) -Can they collect money?
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Like most federal States (Germany, Australia even Russia), an individual must face different tax regimes. In Montreal, I deal with a city tax regime, a school tax, a province tax system and a federal tax system. Each level has its own way of doing things. (BTW, this is true in Russia and Canada and the US. Our Canadian CPP/RRQ system works. Putin made the Russian system work better.) Anyway.... The federal CRA people are clueless. -
CRA (Revenue Canada) -Can they collect money?
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Maybe that's the lesson of the federal CRA people. -
Is the Canada Health Act already dead?
August1991 replied to admined's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
On this forum, we have had many discussions about health care. IMHO, it is impossible to discuss health care on a public forum because it becomes ultimately a discussion about death - an existential discussion. Women are a large user of health services in part because of child birth. A few people require health care throughout life and women typically care for these people. Whether men or women, the greatest health care costs occur at the end of life. By some estimates, 90% of our health insurance is spent in the last three weeks of life. ==== I prefer RomneyCare but I oppose ObamaCare. I oppose the Canada Health Act. Each province should decide its own health insurance policy/system. In fact, at present, this is what Canadian provincial governments are increasingly doing.
