It would be nice if people wouldn't complain to what amounts to a dollar increase in their rates but the media goes wild with it and creates such unreal expectations, when the 7% drop happened on manitory coverage the media built everyone up thinking they would save hundreds of dollars, with the grid rates the only people who save loads of money were those with DUI's, multiple accidents and sheets of driving convictions, the good drivers saved a dollar. 4 years later premiums for the good drivers are now returning to what they were in 2005., they are going up a whole dollar.

I know you probably won't like it but a study was done by th fraiser institute compairing auto insurance between Northa America an great britian, Alberta was considered to be by far the best out of all the provinces we even beat out 2 states, but the list going backwards from the worast up, BC, Sask and then manitoba. Our Rates are the fairest in Canada and the average claim payout is pretty good a well, beats our neigbouring provinces hands down aver payout in BC 2000, in Alberta 6000. Aver cost of insuranc ein BC for one vehicle is on par with what you quoted for toronto.

In Alberta the average cost of 3rd party liablity insurance and ab for a good driver is $139 to $150 per year. I currently insure 2 newer vehicles both less then four years old with full coverage for $1400 a year.

Insurance fault charts are seperate from whether or not you have a conviction dropped. Depending on how the accident happen you may have been partial liable for the damage depanding on how the accident happened. As for your first part about the claims, if you have a paint scratch from a fender bender if you aren't deemed at fault your insurance doesn't rise, if you are, it does go up. If it is vandilism then you report it your comprehensive portion of your policy pays out minus your deductable and your rates do not increase. Same goes for hitting a deer, its consiered a comprehnive claim your rates don't go up. The problem is their is no education about buying insurance, and people don't seem to understand or what to understand what they are purchasing. Just for the record their is no such thing where their is an accident where there is not a party a fault in a colision o two vehicles, someone has always made a mistake.
