Siting back on the computer typing and reading news articals gives you no insight into what the people are thinking in these places. I can tell you first hand that what you read in the papers is not what the people are thinking it is what the journalist is thinking and feeling. I travel western Canada on a very regular basis, and talk with people from all walks of life, and what is printed in the winnipeg free press is not accurate of the city, as with our local paper her were I live, it has very liberal bent due to the editor and staff, and I live in one of the most conervative ridings in the country. you are right you can know of them, but you have no idea how the people relate to it, what they think of it or how it efects their lives. you have no first hand knowelege or ability to relate. If you want to understand the feeling in any area of this country or world it isn't good enough just read about, you need to and experience it and the people.

Squadrons are rotated in and out very frequently up there. I suggest you quit taking the news as the "gospel truth", much of what is in it is speculation, they have no real clue how our military runs or the organization of norad. In fact it is very routine that the MSM gets its info wrong, and places retractions and corrections in the back of the papers away from the headlines. These intercepts may have some degree of routine they ar neither simiple nor is ment as a friendly gesture, this all goes back to the baiting and testing that was done during the cold war, and if some one gets a little nervous and trigger happy the world will change in an instant. Yes I want those failing fixed because you never know just when you might need it, and aircraft are a lot cheaper than naval vessels when it comes to patroling arctic waters. I know that a whole fleet is never ready to go, that is an impossibility that is why a slightly larger fleet of Aircraft would be nice to have.

Again because they are in operational squadrans doesn't mean they are ready to go. Every fighter requires so many hours of maintance per hour of flight operations, this means with the limit ground crews that we have, we could not field the full compliment of the squadrons on a moments notice, and those that had seen service on the first couple of days would need maintance before going up again. MOre then half of what is parked in hanagers is not ready to go.
