Coren has never soldiered and his thoughts relate to his own daughters. I understand what he is saying and I have some sympathy and understanding of his thoughts. I too was a soldier Army Guy, and most often I agree with your posts. You will have to put me in Coren`s category. I come from an earlier era that we referred to as this man`s army. We grew up as men who`s duty it was to protect women and children and women and children into the life boats first. I am sure this young women was as brave as any soldier. But it is still a foreign concept for us old worn down soldiers. It is hard to change us it was instilled into us as part of being a man. But as the sun goes down ,we will remember them.

Another day and still no poor souls looking for work. Where are all these unemployed? I will keep you folks up to date on those seeking work.

Oleg, sometimes I think your one of the brightest posters ,then you go off on a rant that makes no sense. Why not just answer questions to support your arguement and when casting aspertions on individuals like me,find you have been mistaken, why don`t you acknowledge your mistake. Now once again ,where do you think the money will come from to insure all have an above the poverty line guaranteed income?

Well I am an old fashioned male,I am the BOSS of my house. I can do the dishes anytime I want.

The argument has been made that everyone should be guaranteed an above the poverty income! Just what would that accomplish?The mentally ill would still be left to their own devices. The druggies and booze hounds would have instant gratification without bumming for few days and would give us a reprieve from their panhandling I guess. Now where would this unearned income come from? What would happen to inflation if we just print money. If we just print money what would become of our savings for old age? I think this plan would guarantee we would have a lot more elderly living below the poverty line in the long run. .

Wild Bill, I think you said it all. When Harper took power his people started cutting the old Reformers from all influence in the new party,replacing them with former PC members. I know! I was in the thick of it.

Michael, a few weeks ago we had the city of Toronto hiring people to pretend they were homeless to be interviewed on what the homeless needed. It boggles the mind. The best thing for the homeless ,is to discern why each individual is homeless. !. Are they mentally ill and unable to function in society. If so then pass laws that give authorities the ability to incarcerate these sad folks and nurse them to health, if at all possible. 2. If they are on the street because they are young people rebelling against parents ,give them a swift kick in the nether regions and give them a choice. Jail for vagrancy or respect your parents rules. We will need vagrancy laws returned of course. 3. If they are just bums then again invoke the vagrancy law, take them to jail ,clean them up and give them some grub and clean clothes and drive them to the city limits and tell them to keep going. 4 drug attics and drunks should be incarcerated in institutions and nursed back to health if at all possible One of the things we must recognize is that some people are sick and can not be left to their own devices. Some are just plain tramps and bums. Meanwhile we must stop giving respectability to being in these situations. As a society we must not encurage what is now the status quo. It is not alright to be homeless and sick..

The poor business is a self perpetuating industry. Civil servants love it. They can create their own fiefdoms. The more poor they can find the bigger and more important their facade is. A bigger desk ,more employees under them. Poor people are now a government industry that can do nothing but grow.

well here I am at work after a good work out at the Gym. This is my regular start of the day ,six days a week. I do not have anyone standing in front of the shop when I come in looking for work! Why is that? Where are these poor people?When I was 14 I wanted a job in this particular shop. Every morning for a week I made the owner move me aside with the comment I told you yesterday I don`t have a job for you. Finally he invited me in for a coffee. He asked me what I thought I could do for him? I created a job. I got 20 cents a hour and was glad of it. Where are all these unemployed who should be knocking on my shop door? Wakey ,wakey you poor souls! Get your ass in gear if you want work!

She has no reason to question her beliefs! She sounds very devout and she wants to share what she has found that gives her comfort and joy. What a nice thing to do on her part.

Although I am not overly fond of Harper ,I fail to know what Iggy stands for. What policy or ideals has Iggy articulated that you find in common with you? Centerist could mean a lot of things.

Why not be a little genteel and just let the gal enjoy something she has found beautiful. Not everything has to be argued.

Ok girls and boys ,I will share with you a story. I was born poor and my old man had departed the picture. I quit school and went to work at grade six. I was a lousey student anyway. But my mentors were family. we never begged, we turned our hand to anything. There was no subsidized houseing. We lived in third floor flats and shared the bathroom with other tenants. I thouhght our landlord was rich. I wanted what that man had. But I worked hard,nose to the grind stone, took risks, married a great gal.Although I am pushing the ancient category I still rise every morning and am the first one in the shop and thats after working out for an hour at the gym. I do public service through my service club that I have been a member of for 25 years. I work with my regimental association helping wounded soldiers or ones who find themselves in difficulty out of no fault of their own. My poor old hard working Mom was a die hard communist ,she thought by taking from the rich you could make people equal! You can`t! And yes in between I did a stint in the army where I got educated enough to know I was not going to bend a knee to anyone. I know what it`s like as a kid to go to bed hungry.To not have socks in your rubber boots and have the crotch out of your trousers. When we made being poor respectable we took away the hunger to suceed with honest toil. We have created gettoes with government houseing. Places that breed crime. where you have to belong to a gang to survive. Yet stupid do gooders want to build more public houseing ! Why? To create more gettoes? You know it`s OK to fail! We all do. But it is insane ,to follow the same mistakes. I have never passed a beggar who was bumming,without asking if they would like me to buy them a meal. I have never had one say yes. People in my community know me ,so your estimation of me means nothing to me. They know when it comes to fund raiseing for causes in my community I am the go to guy. The best favour we can give someone sometimes is a swift kick in the slats to get them motivated. I will horse whip someone who steals from my garden ,but I will never refuse a hungry person a meal. Moral,of my story, envy and greed are great motivaters to rise above the station your born into, but you must do it honestly. We are taking the gonads out of the mass` by telling them boo hoo you poor soul. You can`t function you imbecile without the work of a social worker. We were once a hard working people! We are now a nation of navel gazers blaming everything but ourselves for our problems. At my great age ,if everything I have of value disappeared, I would either have a job tomorow or I would be creating one. If you feed a man a fish he eats for one day. If you teach him to fish he will be disappointed at that career choice. Look to what services or products are going to be needed tomorow. THINK BIG! Help people up! Steady them on their feet. Then for crying out loud make them walk.

To address your question ,would I hire a deaf person. Sure why not if they qualify and are able to do the job they are hired for. I have hired people who have physical handicaps. Now if people were screened for need at food banks I would be more supportive. In our town volunteers quit who deliver for the food banks. Car sitting in the drive way and beer being consumed along with the unwashed next generation being trained to follow in their parents footsteps.

The response from the these pirates over the Americans action to rescue the Captain held hostage is mind boggeling! They are really upset that the pirate hostage takers were dealt with so expediantly. It`s like they believe they have some kind of intitlement! Who do they think they are ? Canadian Liberals!
