Yup, that's stealing. but what's a few bucks between friends, eh? Actually the real stealing that goes on is for the big bucks which our politicians do for the tax accountant looby on behalf of their rich clients. The tax loopholes are unbelievable, and if Canadians realized how little tax the wealthy paid, we would probably have a revolution.

I never said no government, I said that "unless in the most extreme cases, the Government should not become involved with the day to day lives of people". Remember Government is there to serve us, not the other way around. I don't mind at all having the government there to protect us, maintain the roads etc, but government shouldn't be dipping into business, childcare or dictating values to individuals...........which brings us back to the preceived threat that Quebec feels and the West is starting to feel from Eastern Canada....... Do you not think that one of the roles of government is to regulate business excesses? And why shouldn't the government get involved in a child care program? Don't you think that children will be better protected if the child care industry has to follow high standards? I think what you mean when you say the West, is actually a small enclave around the University of Calgary.

Semites are from the Middle East however in our society, isn't the general understanding when one hears the term anti-semitic, that it means anti-Jewish? When I used the term anti-semitic I am refering to someone being anti-Jewish. And so does the Jewish community it seems: Markham struck by anti-Semitic graffiti What does RNC stand for?

Here we go again - Quebec Independence

August1991....would you really prefer that Quebec goes its own way, or do you just infer that when some of les tetes carres go overboard with their cruel, uncaring, and unenlightened remarks about Quebec ? BTW what's up with the UN commenting on Canada's anglos? Is this for real? I have been away from Quebec for way too long. -
I doubt the Spicers are related, but not sure. Is the Bush administration seeking "regime change" in Canada? Not very cool, boys!

Canada's 38th Election Analysis

Your silence is deafening. -
Canada's 38th Election Analysis
maplesyrup replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
So what if they are within the margin of error when you are out by 50%. When their polls are publicized the margin of error gets short shrift in most media coverage. Ipsos-Reid did everything in their power to belittle or discredit NDP strength. Ipsos-Reid polled the NDP at 14% in BC during the campaign. August1991.....even you were buying into it. Just read the wording in any of their press releases. I quoted one above which was blantantly biased against the NDP. Ipsos-Reid are a joke and should be held up to ridicule. Angus Reid has already said that the non-response rate went from 60% to 80% i believe while he was involved in polling. He suggests now it may be closer to 90%. Polling the way Ipsos-Reid works does not have much of a future. Their polling was done or used to manipulate. -
Canada's 38th Election Analysis
maplesyrup replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Ipsos-Reid's credibility, or lack thereof. Date-------------Pop Vote-----Actual Vote Jun 28 (vote)-------------------4% Jun 25----------6% Jun 22----------6% Jun 19----------7% Jun 15----------6% Jun 10----------7% Jun 05----------6% So first of all, let's look at the actual results for the Green Party, compared to Ipsos-Reid's last poll before the actual election was off (down) by a staggering 50% which confirms my hunch about Ipsos-Reid's credibility And what did Ipsos-Reid say on June 5th? Now what is one supposed to assume when one sees a statement like this, eh? slavik44.........cut the mumbo-jumbo, and just out of curiousity, which seats were Ipsos-Reid suggesting the Greens might win? It couldn't have been Saanich-Gulf Islands, as pretty well anyone in BC who knows anything about politics knew that the Greens were not even in the running in that seat - that they were going to finish last, well maybe ahead of the Communist candidate. What kind of game was Ipsos-Reid playing, eh? Look at the wording that is highlighted. Unbiased my ass! -

Go do a search of Caesar's posts and look for one of his/hers standard anti-Israel rants.......without a doubt, the topic is brought up in thread Caesar posts in. Stoker.....if you are going to cast aspersions on people please back your statements with specific facts. Are you suggesting he is anti-semitic? That's quite a serious statement to make. Isn't it possible to be against the current Israeli government without being anti-semitic? You see I grew up with Jewish people as my friends. Recently though I have become discouraged with recent Israeli governments. Does that make me anti-semitic? -

Please be specific otherwise I have difficulty following your train of thought. I persued the above article and my impression is the way the word socialism is used there is equated to communism, fascism, etc. In Canada those of us who consider ourselves social democrats would shudder at the thought of being considered communist or fascist. -
Some do. And some is too many. So do you believe in prohibition then for marijuana?
-
You mean if you have a toke of marijuana, the next thing is you will be addicted to heroin, eh? Actually Canada is a social democratic society. North Korea, Cuba, and China are tolitalitarian societies.
-
The reason I was asking is that in Canada (apart from the political science department at the University of Calgary ), we do not equate socialism with communism. I think they do in the USA though.

A country with a socialist goverment Stoker......cat got your tongue. What is holding you back from providing us with a few examples? Don't be shy laddie.

One suggestion is to abolish tuition, etc. make education part of the general taxation system, so that the poorer elements of society will have complete access. -
stoker.......what's your definition of a socialist country? Please give us a few examples. Just not sure what you are talking about.

War is business, big business. If there were no financial profits to be made on war, we would not have war. Everybody is out of step except the oil industry, eh? -
All I'm saying is that deficits are NOT the special domain of the left, the right, including the recent right (Bush, Harris), are just as good at it. And part of the problem when the left gets into power is that the corrupt business community (Enron, etc.), instead of working with the left, does everything possible to make things look as bad as possible. Maybe with Jack Layton the New Democrats will create sound economic policies. For example we do need to address the deficit at some point. My preference would be that at least something goes towards it every year until it is abolished.

I am very surprised by all you folks that are constantly expressing concern about taxes, that you don't want to abolish the patronage filled appointed Senate, which is such a huge waste of taxpaper's money. Making it count
