Read my lips, no new tax cuts: PM So PM Martin has an $8 billion surplus but there will be no new tax cuts. I suppose PM Martin is finally waking up to the reality of the support in the country for NDP policies. I think this suggests an election sooner rather than later.

THE THREE STAGES OF A US DOLLAR COLLAPSE Interesting to note that the three stages are: 1 - Gold/Silver to Outpace Foreign Currencies 2 - Gold/Silver to Outpace the Base Metals 3 - Silver to Outpace Gold Wow! When you think about it, that's one heck of a drop, 30% since 2001.

Trade war full blown threaten
maplesyrup replied to caesar's topic in Canada / United States Relations
Trade Issues Sour U.S.-Canadian Friendships This really is going to get ugly, if it hasn't already, if it continues. What is the point of these trade agreements if the dispute resolution mechanisms are not functioning, or are only going to function for the benefit of the bully? -
Ontario Won't Sign Great Lakes Water Deal,
maplesyrup replied to maplesyrup's topic in Canada / United States Relations
Thank goodness we had a change of government in Ontario, otherwise this agreement would have already been signed by now. Mankind still thinks it can fool around with Mother Nature and not have any consequences to pay for. How strange. -
The price of crude oil has dropped quite a bit, and is moving into the $45. per barrel range since its high of $55. per barrel during the last week of October, 2004. December delivery crude on the New York Mercantile Exchange was down 26 cents at $46.61 US per barrel in late-morning electronic trading in Europe after falling to $46.53 earlier in Asia. This is quite a drop in a very short period. I guess all that bloodshed in Iraq is paying off for Big Oil and the US economy. /725

Canadian dollar is back at it again, up almost 3/4 of a cent today. The price of gold is up $3.50 an ounce as well. As Canada continues to record surpluses, such as the one announced today, I think we are going to see our Canadian dollar continue to rise. Don't think I want to purchase any of that Nortel stock though.

Do we even know if he is really alive? You have seen the artwork about the plane or whatever going into the pentagon, so who's to say that video with bin Laden just before the election wasn't fabrication. Walter Cronkite said it was. It is fact that they had prepared a backup plan to bamboozle if they hadn't landed on the moon. They landed so they never had to use it.

Former G.I.'s, Ordered to War, Fight Not to Go I wonder if these people realised what they were in for when they initially signed up for military service in the United States. I highly doubt it. I think we had better prepare for a lot of US citizens coming up to Canada, maybe sooner rather than later.

Trade war full blown threaten
maplesyrup replied to caesar's topic in Canada / United States Relations
De Jong is a cabinet minister in BC Campbell's government. Diplomacy sure is different these days - normally someone in de Jong's position would go through a federal cabinet minister. Anyway it is all posturing for de jong's re-election in the next BC provincial election. -
Trade war full blown threaten
maplesyrup replied to caesar's topic in Canada / United States Relations
I find this hilarious. BC Campbell Liberals threatening a trade war with their business buddies in the US. And people complained about Parrish! I read today that only 67% of Canadians think the US is our best ally. I wonder when that is going to go below 50%. -
Top Ten Conspiracy Theories of 2002 These certainly make you sit up and take notice.

Your initial reaction was probably right.Think. Galileo, Newton, Copernicus. Think, what is the scientific method? Be an intelligent sceptic. Why would I believe anything coming out of the White House any more than anything coming from a conspiracy theorist? My preference would be for people to refute these theories if they can, rather than holding them up to ridicule, which then makes me concerned they have some credibility. Horrific Crash On Trans Canada Highway
maplesyrup replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Here is a report of the incident from the local paper: Article -
My initial reaction to this was nonsense, but then I realized how programmed I was having grown up on spoon-fed news. Anyway check it out for yourselves: Flash Movie I hope you can open it.

Just follow the money and you will find out who is deciding things, who is making the money, who is trying to smoke ya, and who is blowing smoke up your ass: http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/ContentServer?pagename=thestar/Layout/Article_Type1&c=Article&cid=1095545411401&call_pageid=970599109774&col=Columnist1022182710415

I thought we had already discussed this issue. Why are you wasting people's time with such nonsense? It's the Crude, Dude, reviewed Supposedly bin Laden attacks on September 11 and Bush goes after Saddam. Please give us all a break. What are you, some kind of weird White House missionary?

Just conjuring up the word conspiracy brings thoughts of ridicule and disbelief to a lot of people. Sometimes I read about conspiracy theories, like those surrounding the assassination of President Kennedy, and quite frankly end up more confused than ever. Perhaps that is part of the scheme. Although I am not sure who killed the US president, for some reason I do not believe the Warren Commission, it is just too far fetched a story for me. I am curious what the other posters here think about conspiracy theories, whether they give them any credence, or whether you all believe everything you are told by your governments, and/or major corporations, which in a lot of ways, are supplanting our governments these days.

Residents blast Nova Scotia Power after storm leaves thousands in dark This is absurd. What has Nova Scotia Power done? Eliminated all the jobs so there is no personnel to deal with storms. Perhaps the executives of this utility should all be replaced by people who care about the communities from which they take millions every year. Nova Scotia Power, if it is a private company, perhaps should be nationalized if they can't get the job done.

Life expectancy for men, infant mortality rise: Statistics Canada Yea, what a great reason to vote for a extreme right wing party that would decimate health care even more than Klein has done.
-
Cartman....are these folks for real? They would be laughed right out of town anywhere else in Canada. Hopefully Albertans will give them the boot as well. Alberta Alliance gets help from U.S. friends It almost, remember I said almost, but not quite, makes you want to vote for Ralph Klein. Nothing like a few nutbars on the extreme right to give your party a little credibility, eh!

Protect Chuck Guité's privilege: Conservative MP Williams This is indeed serious business where there is a bigger issue involved than just Guile's testimony. It goes to the heart of Parliament and involves the comments and/or testimony of all MPs.

So much for the idea that France and the US don't work together. Sure they have differences, who doesn't!

Slapping The Other Cheek - Good Luck United
maplesyrup replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
The above quote is from an article in the New Republic and sums up how I feel about the election results in the US and its aftermath, and why the US can only be headed for serious trouble with this kind of right thinking in control of their government. Of course the Republicians have a right to win elections, but for them to suggest they are the only one with values (i.e. morals) is indeed a perversion of democracy, and what democracy is supposed to represent. /13 -
Horrific Crash On Trans Canada Highway
maplesyrup replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
There is, and has been a major growing problem on Canada's roads, and it is about time governments started addressing the issue, before there is overwhelming carnage on our public roads. Ths is just basic common sense and a serious wakeup call for all of us. hopefully, tragic as it was, this really terrible accident will spur road activists into action: Beware of 'Zombie' Truck Loggers /267
