Go Flames go! Canadian National Pride is at stake here. Having grown up in Montreal I am unable to be anything other than a Habs fan, however now that they have been elimated for this year, I'm rooting for Calgary all the way. Sign of the times?

Restoring Fairness is Key to NDP Platform

willy....give it up. Stephen Harper isn't a fascist, or is he? -
carrie04......I am always happy to see young people, such as yourself, get involved in the democratic process. Perhaps voting should be like the Senate, after 75 years of age, you have to retire and are no longer allowed to vote. Just kidding. I have a question for you. How do we get more young people such as yourself, involved in the political process? The House of Commons looks like a white male senior citizen's residence. The Atlantic Region is the one area of the country that is still clinging to the old Liberal myths. I hope they are paying attention to the changing tide in the rest of the country. Canadians are looking for a level playing field, some fairness in our tax system, and equality opportunity for all.

The NDP will pick up more seats than the Cons in Ontario because the NDP vote is concentrated.

Times have changed. The NDP will probably get 50% or more of the seats in BC. This poll is a good indication of things to come. People in BC are fed up with the right wing (read Cons & Lib) policies of the Campbell Liberals and they desire some fairness restored to the tax system. National polls should be coming out at the end of the week and I expect the NDP will be closing the gap with the two front runners.

willy......you right wingers need to stop labeling the NDP communist. How would you like it if everytime Stephen Harper or Paul Martin opened their mouths someone said fascist? Cool the nonsensical rhetoric please and debate the issues. -

NDP takes aim at highest earners -
For way too long the rich have been getting all the breaks in Canada. The NDP wants to restore fairness in Canada. And this the key to their balanced budget platform.

I wonder why the CBC is delaying the official release of this poll. Did they get the word from the Liberals?

NDP Revives Inheritance Tax Plan
maplesyrup replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
This is what our Canadian governments are really here for - to protect the least fortunate in society by slightly redistributing the wealth in Canadian society. The Jack Layton's New Democrats are fiscally responsible, a small c conservative approach. -
NDP revives inheritance tax scheme This may, at the most, impact on 5% of Canadians. Excellent idea.

Marky Marissen and his funky bunch of candidates in third place Mr Democratic Deficit made a huge mistake in appointing all those candidates. I saw a big Dosanjh campaign sign with a large "NO" scrawled on it on the noontime tv news yesterday.

Looking for a reason to vote Maybe if Melanie and a few other people her age got elected we could bring the younger generation into the voting process thus keeping our democracy alive. It seems like it is dying a slow death with fewer and fewer people voting each election.

NDP wants cost of retrofitting older buildings to be loaned from the CPP It would be great if Canada could keep its Kyoto commitments.

Willy....why single out Toronto Star, CBC, etc.? CanWest Global control most of the media in this country, or are certainly the biggest media empire. If we really had a representative press, the unions would have lots of newspapers, TV stations, etc. But they don't, although something in is the works, I believe. Instead you have Fox TV. You may think the CBC is left wing but from my perspective, they are not. The political shows they have -Rex Murphy host of Cross Canada Checkup is right wing, Anthony Germaine host of The House has an orgasism every time the Liberal name is mentioned, and Don Newman from Politics who is reasonably neutral. There is abdsolutely no NDP, or left wing representation there.

Environics Poll Results - NDP up 2% to 21%
maplesyrup replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Actually all the polls are showing the Conservatives flatlined. With all the problems the Liberals have been encountering, if Stephen Harper had any pizaaz, the Conservatives would be way out in front by now. It is obvious he is not catching on with Canadians. Canadians will be looking to the Jack Layton New Democrats as the main opposition to the Liberals. The NDP is the one party with positive momentum, and I expect the NDP will be doing exceptionally well when the next series of polls are released. Goldie....you and others attacked me for supporting Belinda duriong the leadership campaign. If Belinda was leading the Conservatives right now, the Conservatives would have the lead. Instead the Cons are only 8% ahead of the NDP with the NDP closing in. -
What I truly believe is that right wingers are not used to a level playing field in the media, and the 'net , discussion groups such as here at Mapleleafweb, have to tendency to make things more equal. I realize that probably 90% of the people that post here are right wing, and are used to seeing their point of view conveyed in the mainstream business oriented media in Canada. That is why when the right sees a left wing point of view on a regular basis they are not used to it. I respect the right wing to express their point of view, sometimes I learn things from them, but I don't have to read their posts if I do not wish to. Personal attacks on people because you do not agree with their political persuasion is not on. I think people need to keep that in mind. (BTW Stoker this is not a response to your previous post above)

Environics Poll Results - NDP up 2% to 21%
maplesyrup replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
If the NDP's current percentage support translates into seats, it would give the Jack Layton New Democrats 65 seats. Not bad going into the election campaign with momentum. -
Seriously why don't the right wingers believe in freedom of expression? There are people here that post much more often, and yet because they are right wing, people like Kliege say nothing about their posting frequency. Double standard, you bet. You should walk the talk guys.

Environics Poll Results - NDP up 2% to 21%
maplesyrup replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
9% difference between the Liberals and Conservatives, and only 8% difference amongst Conservatives and New Democrats. This is showing signs of a classic three-way race.
