ALL CANNABIS CANADIANS VOTE GREEN
old_bold&cold replied to shavluk's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Hell if it was legal I would grow it hydroponically, but I am watched too much out where I am to grow it illegally. We get planes and helicopters flying by checking the fields and infared scanning of buildings etc.. In my area there are at least 5-6 large raids of grow-ops every year. So it seems to be a hot spot for this. But if it were legal and was a good paying crop then sure why not grow it -
It really does not matter anymore as the USA justice system has ordered the judge in this case to go ahead with charges no matter what the designation. See todays Ottawa Citizen for the story. So we will not need to worry about this guy for a long time as he will probably get a sentence of well over 40 years for all the ings they will charge him with. Murder being the biggest, and Spying etc will also be because he was not in a uniform of an army etc.. There will be more, so it looks like he will be a guest of the USA for the next few decades at least.

I find it really strange that I have to agree with Jennie in this thread, but in other threads find her way off base. Today we have boomers retiring and not enough labour force to support the retirement. So what we need is middle aged families with children, hopefully 3-4 children, to come and make Canada there home. Back in the 90's we had a chance to take in many of the business people from Hongkong, but did not open our arms to them, rather we put obstacles to there being accepted. These were the kind of immigrants that would have opened businesses and hired people. They would have invested in our industries. But we did not push to get them. Now I wish we had many times more then we did get. With the break up of the Iron Curtain countries we have many immigrants that would have been god for Canada. Scientists from all these countries were eager to go any where that would recognize their abilities and education. We did not do this so we lost a good portion of these immigrants. Canada seems to have a very high British immigrant population, but they also seem into the One child is enough type mind. To me immigration is the only way Canada can go forward. It is not a case of if we need it, but rather how fast we need it. The west is probably now getting way more of the immigrant then they ever did before due to the well paying jobs etc. Even those who have skills but are not recognised by Canada, can find that Alberta will give them the work and pay for their skills and they can take tests afterwards to requalify. The one thing we need to do and that is screen new immigrants so we are not letting in criminals and war crime types. Also we need to make sure that the new immigrants are not sick and just coming for the healthcare. If we can do that, then I am all for immigration of the masses we need to ensure our country's way of life. It should also be made known at the beginning that here in Canada we have laws of the land that supercede all laws of religion. That needs to be made clear and if there is any resistance, then deny them entry.

Jennie You keep harping that all the government has to do is make a simple request, as if it is your right to say what the governement should do. But as you can not see because you are blindered by your own sicking beliefs, that the majority of Canadian people do not think your way, otherwise there would be ground pounding support for Khadr release. Do you see anything that resembles that kind of support. No because most people would rather he not return. But lets say you get your way and he does return. He will be probably soon arrested for voicing his terrorist belief's, because as an admitted terrorist it would be simply a matter of law to take those belief's as threats, and rightfully so. His own background makes him unfit to be in Canadian society. There will not be any deprogramming or any physcolodgical support for him. Just prison and probably death by the imates. To me that, is way more degrading, then where he is at now. It would have been kinder if he was shot in combat. You keep trying to make the war in Afghanistan, not a Canadian war, and technically you are correct it is a NATO war where Canada has the burden of being front line combatants. So you see we really are at war or at least our troops are. I do not think you will find any real support for bringing Khadr home to Canada, and when you say that sending him back to Afghanistan is not how it is done, you are wrong they only will send him back to Canada if we request it and he agrees. He can say any country he wants to go back to and if they will take him, then that is it. He probably would choose a place where he would be able to go free, then return here. He well may choose to go to Afghanistan so he can be a martyr and get his alotted virgins etc.. You keep making decision for this guy and you know nothing about him. You just stick your oar in and think you have a right to say what is best for him. Please do us a favour and show us where Khadr himself has made any requests to come back to Canada? I do not mean requests his family has made, but requests made by himself. He vowed that he would die in the cause of Islam, and because of his upbringing, this will be the most over riding issue he has. So where do you get off with thinking you know what is best for him.

Are we witnessing the death of the Bloc Québécois?
old_bold&cold replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I do believe that the Bloc has decided that the reasons for their declining support has been due to there not showing the tough image that the party thinks they should be. The Quebec only and Sovereignty if not all things go our way approach. This is eveident I believe by the very five demands he has given, to support the minority government. He knows full well that these requests will not be forth coming and he is hoping I think that the other parties will support Harper, and allow him to keep making his chest pounding demands. It seems that is what he feels will once again bring the Quebec voters to his side. It is a gamble that he is taking, and if he is wrong, then yes, the Bloc will start to fade away quite quickly in political time, to become a fringe party. I personally think this is a bad move on their part, as I get the feeling that the sovereigntists bravodo is not being seen as seriously as it was before. Quebec can see that there is a place within Canada for them and one in which they can be happy with their lot in it. It is not so black and white any more. Trying to dredge up the old sovereignty movement will not be so easy now. Since it seems that is what the end game is for the Bloc, it will either have to adapt or fade away. It does not look like they are willing to adapt. If things work out to where there is an election this fall, it may well be the beginning of the end for the Bloc. -
The USA will hold Khadr for what ever time it takes to make sure the conflict that he was warring in is finished and settled( probably his whole life). If he is released it will be to be returned to the place where he was taken into custody. That will be Afghanistan. Since he is now a man and can if he wanted to educate himself while at Gitmo, but he does not then we have to see him for what he really is, and that is a weapon of terrorism. To try to institutionalize such a person and think you can remove these belief's as if they were a brain washed ideal, is not only wrong, but is an insult to all those who follow Islam. He would not last long if brought into Canada, and would only end up spending the rest of his life in prison, mostly because he will break our laws by spouting his beliefs, and make terroristic threats, because that is all he knows how to do. His type would not last long in our prison system, and he would be found dead in a relatively short time. It would be much better for him to just expire where he is now. That might happen yet. What we all forget is one thing that may well take all this out of anybodies hands, is the fact that Khadr may well not ask to be returned to Canada, but be returned to say Iran or Iraq, or any of the many arabic countries that may well allow him in. If he were to come back to Canada, he would not be free to roam about, and that would not be his first choice now would it. All Canada would have to do is sign off on his coming here and then the USA would have to send him to where he would like to be. Those who would be so foolish as to think he would even want to come back to Canada, are not looking at what the man himself would want. Coming back here would just be exchanging prisons for him. In Arab sympathizing countries he would walk free.
-
I can tell you that most of the Canadian people do not give a rats ass what happens to Khadr, and you can tell that by there being no public out pouring of guilt when articles about his case have been printed in newpapers. The immigrant population does not even try to support him, so why should we. In his world he became a man at age 13 and could even have had one or two wives by now. This is the lifestyle he was raised in. He went to join the terrorist cause of his own free will and fought and killed for their cause. People do not wish him to come back to Canada, and the fact that the USA will probably just send him back to afghanistan is quite alright by me and I would say by the majority of people. Just look at how little your pleadings have helped your cause here, that you have to call us knuckle draggers. Just by your method of posting it shows you already lost any argument that might have helped your cause. But I guess maybe you are just disappointed because you can not seem to get many people to think the same as you. To bad, so sad.

It is the USA that was called the great melting pot, when talk about ethnic cultures coming and building there. Canada while very much like the USA, had already given into the French culture here and openly accepted them as they were. We have had many mass migrations and much of the country of Canada can be looked at as cultural basins. The West had a very large Ukranian content. Southern Ontario had vast italian content as well as German and other european nations. We did not have a large black population but yes they were there sparsely throughout it all. Many of these cultures adapted to Canada but still kept some of their own customs etc.. Nobody pushed their customs on others, but then came many visible minorities who did push and holler very loud about not getting the same breaks as other immigrant. Some of this was true but the largest part was not. The trouble though was we could not tell who was and wasn't legit. So we gave them all special status, and that is where it has gone wrong. I am all for equal status but not special status. This is where I believe the seeds of hate were planted. If you wnat to come to Canada, and we do need the immigration, we must insist that you melt in and adapt to our laws and ways no matter what religion you are. If you can not, then you should not be allowed here. Before everyone goes screaming religious freedom, remember that we have the law of the land and that exceeds all laws of god or alla or any religion. If you want to come here that has to be a given. We are not the society of the past where visible minorities need special status, and that should be removed as well, but most of all once you are a Canadian citizen we expect you to put our country first and foremost in your allegences. If any immigrant can not do that then we do not need them.

Conservative Environment Program
old_bold&cold replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Maybe you can tell me just what is the right method to acces the real numbers in reducing short term emmissions? You can not because there is no such thing. You can only give numbers over very long term and even then it does not seem any formula will suit all. So when this committee says that the numbers are wrong, how and by what method are they getting this, because scientists would really love to have such an accurate method. The fact that it said the long term numbers will be down, then that is very good, compared to them going up and up under the Liberal plan. Since this is a plan that has goals set 40+ years down the road, any movement toward that goal means it is on the right track. This over view may want to pick at the minusia in what is a best guess type environment, and then claim it is not exactly accurate. But what is going to be accurate when we are not even sure of the science and the methods. We can only rely on the long term effects and hope we have used the right formulas. Hell one volcano eruption and all these numbers could be shot to hell. Sun flares could knock all the data off as well. Ocean current changes and even the gases from wild animals can change everything quickly and profoundly. So this overview committee, will have to excuse me when I hold my nose, at the BS they are really saying -
Haudenosaunee Confederacy Land Rights Statement

I will admit to being aprox 1/3 indian blood, and yes I have listened to my grandparents when they told stories and about how things were. They were reserve status indian, but never lived on a reserve. They chose at that time to assimolate into the Canadian society, and while my grandfather, did hunt fish and trap for aliving in his youth, he also was a guide and game warden in his area later in life. While I guess all of the siblings and there's as well probably could get indian status and take advantage of the tax breaks and such, I am not sure I ever will. It is not that I am ashamed of my heritage, but rather that I have grown beyond it. The biggest problem with native communities is alcohol, and other substance abuse. The fact that their way of life is dying do more to the wishes by the youths to have all modern conveniences. The old ways have gone and a new way of trying to make others pay for their woes. I guess I could be like so many others and try to force my opinions by blockades and violence, but that would be the way of the natives. We need the courts to push for the court orders to be enforced and if there is resistence, then the use of force will be required and those then who are in contempt should be jailed and heavily fines for their actions. This is because if it were anyone else who did those things, that is exactly what would happen. I will fight to the death to see you are treated equally in todays society, but will also fight tooth and nail to make sure you are not treated better then any one else. As I have said before, this whole land claims bit will come to an end in my lifetime and remeber I am old and retired. It maybe that it will be negoiated, but I do not think that will happen really. I believe that it will take force to bring it under control and in the end it will be the natives that will lose out. Sooner or later the government will have to act, and when they do it will not be to keep status but to end all reserves and all money to natives, with giving them equal rights and things but to either assimolate into todays society or be left on their own, but with no help from government. It is just what I can see this going to. I do not say I want it but in the end it has to happen. The land claims is going to be the trigger and now the natives are pulling that trigger, it will generate the responce. For over 200 years society has allowed the natives their chance to fit in, or live in reserves paid for by society. The costs of the reserves has been born by all tax payers. Since it seems that this is not enough for the native youths of today, then they should see what happens when they need to support themselves. -
I will not disagree with ou on that point as it is simply a fact of the numbers. The trouble with Liberals are they get in and then start going more and more left until they are turfed and then we get some movement to the right, when what Canadians really want is a split of the two. I think it is very evident that Dion is not going to become PM. and in this thread about seeking help for Khadr is not going to endear him to the majority of people. Most people would like the wisdom of acadameia, tempered with the facts of the school of hard knock, with some charima thrown in. Not of that is Dion, or Harper for some as well. But we can accept dull if enlightened and realistic. That does describe Harper. Dion as a leader he just does not inspire any one to follow, and that is his worst enemy. The scandels were bad enough and their issues have not all yet been felt. It will be probaly several more governments before the Liberals will see power again. But yes there will be a time in the future where the people will want to again push more to the left then the right, and that will be the liberals time.

Haudenosaunee Confederacy Land Rights Statement
old_bold&cold replied to jennie's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I must apologise for taking a more antagonising position in this, but I am probably still worked up from the other thread. I wish to point out that by all thye customs of native Canadians no one owned the land and it belonged to the ones who were powerful enough to beat off the other tribes kill the men and take the women as slaves. He who had the most strength owned the lands. It was that simple. In those days this was how things were, and while they sound barbaric now, it was ok back then. Along came the white man and he mapped and seetled all across Canada he fought off native encursions and for the most part conquered the land we now know as Canada. While yes there were many atrocities by both sides, it was the whiteman who taught native to scalp, as the scalps were used as a bounty for those who made the lands safe for settlers. Not a very bright time in our history but it is just the way it was. We here in Canada had way less indian wars then the USA, but we also were more inclined to assimolate natives into our own society. We also welcomes the french to join us after they were defeated in Quebec. Where you did not see the USA welcome the spanish when they fought. Canada was a colony of England and England was colonising around the world. Even Idia was conquered and under British rule for a long time before it was again given back to the people of India to run etc. So was Israel and much of the middle east. France was in Polynesia and many african countries. It was just the times. That is why I am saying that the native indians were conquered, and put on reserves where the federal government feed and clothed them when they could no longer exist with thier hunting and fishing. The land was Crown land and never was it deeded to the natives but rather was given use of by treaty only. The old stories about Manhatton being bought for a few pebbles etc. is just a wives tail because had the natives not agreed it would simply have been taken from them. All this talk about land belonging to them back to the beginning of time is a farce. as I said it was he who had the most strength and wanted it took it, one way or another. That is why I say this whole thing is getting out of hand and sooner or later we will have to confront those once again and the strongest one will win. That seems to be where it is going. -
You go againthrow things like you actually have some sort of support in numbers. You do not and I can tell you that to most Canadians what you propose is only a very tiny minority. You will have to prove to me that numbers lie with your views, as if you look around the board here very few will take your point of view. So Hrrumph that

Haudenosaunee Confederacy Land Rights Statement
old_bold&cold replied to jennie's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I just can not stand this stuff anymore. I agree that we need to put an end to this land claim stuff right now. The native Canadians did not own land in Canada and never will. It is against their customs to own land. The reserves set aside land for the use by these tribes but ownership never was given by the crown. The natives were all conquered races and as such had to make treaties with the crown who had claimed all lands of Canada at that time. Settlers were allowed to settle lands and when they had settled it were either given the land or it was sold at very low prices. The reserves were where indians could live by their own ways and use the land to hunt and fish. They were not owners and all reserves were governed by the federal government. The lands on reserves thatr was settled by the native people could eventually be deeded to them but not all the land they hunted and fished on but rather the land they settled into. They have no claim on the lands other then which they settled. If they continue to push for things as it looks like they will then we will have to once again have our armies go in and settle this once and for all. This time once you are conquered again there will be no welfare and tax benifits, but rather assimilate or leave the country. The acts of blockades and civil disobedience to court orders is more then enough to have the trouble makers jailed. So why waste the time trying to bargain with these types and just go right to what will be the finish one way or the other. -
Jenni If Canada ever made the request to bring this filfth home, I would make sure that I never voted for that party ever again. He gave up his right to Canadian citizenship and went back to his country of origin citizenship, the day he took part in the terroist activities. No one is requesting his return here, because no one wants him here. Only a few misguided individuals like yourself think he is worth anything. So since you are so concerned maybe you should go to Gitmo and help plead his case to the USA. You do have the right to do that you know. Why do you think others should take on this quest you have for a lost cause. The rest of his family should also be investigated about there beliefs and if it is found that they lied about this on their citizenship applications, then we should also send them back to where they came from as well. I get just so sick and tired of the whining people do over such things, when they know the majority just want to leave him where he is. The USA will return him to afghanistan, which is where they found him, and that will be that. His skill set is such that he knows how to build explosives and fire AK47's to cause the most damage to people. He believes that all of us are his enemy and if we do not convert to islam we should be put to death. So go snuggle up close to him and see what you can do to rehab him. Just do not ask our government for any thing that the majority of Canadians do not want to happen.
-
He was a 15 year old kid that was trained as a terrorist and was caught during a fire fight with US soldiers. He had killed one and was just as dangerous as any person of any age. He has been raised to be an extremist muslim and those beliefs do not mix well with in Canada. Since the USA took him from Afghanistan, that is exactly where he should be returned to. He probably will get a quick trial and be hung as it should be.
-
We live here in Canada where we elect people to run our country. For the most part the majority rules. So now take a look at those who think your way, and the large number that think our way. Yes it is a good thing that we the majority do rule the country at least. That way those who think like you, will be less likely to harm our way of life
-
I do not want this guy in my Canada period. He has alreadt shown that he will take up arms and kill people for his extremists beliefs, and he even went to the trouble of going to another country to train in the ways of a terrorist. He was captured in Afghanistan, and that is where he should end up. Not in Canada in any way shape or form. Only an idiot would believe that this man is capable of rehabilitation. The US brought him to Cuba, and it is they who should return him to where they found him. It is that easy. If his family does not like that, then maybe we should let them join him, as we are not holding them here by force, now are we. If you look at the true immigrants who have come here to work for a better life, you will not find them saying to bring him back to Canada. It is only those with bleeding heart causes that would be so arrogant to ask such a thing of the Canadian people.

This upgrading of the planes is not so much that they will not fly but rather they may not have the latest detection equipment on board. But I do not think the new technolgy is making the planes safer, but maybe more efficient. If I am right, then the time it takes to do an appraisal of the situation, will not really effect the number of planes or the amount of patrols. It may well mean that instead of radar detection they will have laser detection abilities and maybe even some sub surface detection capabilities. I could be wrong but I would have to know more about the exact upgrades and just what they entail.

Canadian Dollar at Parity with the US Dollar
old_bold&cold replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Speculating on the silver markets is not what I would say is a safe bet. While many metals and other resources are going up in value the main reason for which is they are in demand for building todays machines or equipment. Gold is used in many of the hazardous use electronics, and is for ever being in demand by industries. Silver on the other hand is not used so much in industries and so the demand remains low. While it may never really drop or rise dramatically, it can slowly become worth less and less over the long term. -
I think that the defense department might be looking at some planes more suitable to artic patrolling and landing etc. The fatc that they have momentarily stopped the upgrades, may not mean that it will stop forever. I would GUESS that it may be an issue of looking at the cost of replacing some planes as opposed to repairing and upgrading them. It would be prudent to put a hold on these things until a fair appraisal can be done on which way things would proceed. I find it strange that the comment about suitibilty for northern patrols was just a quick reference in the news, and quickly glossed over. To me it is that point alone that makes some sense it this.

Canadian Dollar at Parity with the US Dollar

Since we here in Canada import way more things then we export ( I am talking volume of products not doollar value of products) we should see more things that should now be less in price then we did before. I will agree that many of the manufacturers will be hard hit with the rise in the Canadian dollar, but it will not effect those who manufacture mostly for domestic consumption. In fact the higher dollar should lower the costs for those who mostly sell domestically but have to buy foreign raw materials or machinery. The rise in the dollar will pay doctors more now here in Canada, making the change to USA will now be less attractive then it was before. Since many of the costs of healthcare were spent in USD before, this will also make for times to buy equipment and testing goods, where they are essentially 40% less then just a year or two ago. There are many good sides to the strong dollar, but many only want to look at the down side and it seem those who are in that side are the most vocal and of course grab the news. The snow birds will now have a 40% gain in their living costs. Our national debt will be 40% less as much was in USD. The government will have much more buying and spending power, so we should hopefully start to see some things once again shouldered by the federal government. It should lower taxes if the government does things right. I mean all levels of taxes not just the ones that the manfacturing sector say they want lowered. There are many more good sides to the dollar being worth more. Maybe we need a thread that see this as the glass is half full, rather then half empty. -
I think he should be sent back to Afghanistan and let the courts there charge him with murder. We maybe could find a way for his whole family to attend such a court case. We can refuse to accept him back into Canada, due to his actions and can deny him any Canadian citizenship. I do not think I would care to spend money on a trial here.

I will point out the car issue and use the Corvette. The Base price for a corvette in the USA is $49,000.00 Here in Canada it is $66,000.00. When ypou say to the dealer that you would be better to buy in the USA they say they will not honour warranty if the car is purcased in the USA, but my last Corvette was purcased there and I had no problem with warrant here in Canada. Mind you I only had 3 warranty issues while I owned the car. I sold that car for just as much as I paid for it and had it for 6 years. When I see this price gouging by deallers it just makes me have no sypathy for them at all. -
I think the harper government would give Dion as much clearance as they can in this. It is political suicide to align yourself with a family of admitted extremists and to even hint at getting sympathy for the child of that family who actually trained and fought as a taliban terrorist. So I would not think the issue of clearance to meet the USA is a problem. You would think though that some where in the Liberal party there is a functioning brain that would stop this thing. But I guess not
