I was wondering if you knew about that incident, it does raise some interesting questions. They are still undetermined as to whether it was because of the radar or pilot error. Personally I believe it was both, but thats just my opinion. Passive sensors have been with us for many years now and are good to an extent, however the technology to circumvent passive systems has come a long way. Although there is now the Kolchuca "M" series in deployment it still remains to be seen as to how effective they are against stealth. Both Tamara and Kolchuca systems use multiple receivers to detect. The Kolchuca requires about a sixty Kilometer spacing between receivers and C2 units in order to be effective. What must be kept in mind is the fact that even if the system enabled an f-117 to be shot down, that is only one positive detection out of hundreds of sorties. In other words the system receives a failing grade. One should also keep in mind the fact that the 22 is magnitudes more stealthy than the 117. This is the basis for my saying "dream on" Oh yes, I almost forgot to mention that both systems will only detect within a limited range and the aircraft must be in the node, or the "sweet spot" for them to be detected. All in all pretty specific requirements that reduce the chances of detection even further.

Quebec Sovereignty - On Ice

You do realize that by posting in French you limit discussion to a small segment of forum members don't you? -
Frequently I see this claim being made but have yet to see any proof of this concept. In all the times I've seen people make this claim not once has any of the people making it been able to show or prove why. Thats not to say that I'm against immigration, I do believe it can serve a purpose. For myself I simply wonder why we make it so damned hard for Europeans or members of the Commonwealth to immigrate. For instance my friend wanted to move here from Australia. She's an educated woman (two degrees in business), ran her own successful business, had 3/4 of a million dollars in the bank and is a very good hard working person. Her application was rejected, signed by a guy called Mohamed Rashid something or other. Now logically I have to ask why? One would think she'd be an ideal candidate for immigration yet she was rejected. Needless to say she has an entirely different opinion of Canada now, not a very flattering one at that, cant really say I blame her actually.

Generally I refer to that as operating or using but if you like to think of it as communicating then go ahead, fill yer boots.

Further to CR's response I might add that some plastics can not be recycled. I'm not 100% certain but I believe many clear plastics can not be recycled in any meaning full way as they are largely polycarbonates which are non recyclable. As such pulp and metal derived containers would be far better as they have a much higher recycle potential than many plastics. I do like the idea of using old tires for road surfacing though, I think they've tried it in some parts of Ontario. I'll have to see if I can find any information as to the success and feasibility of expanding this form of usage. In the same vein, many areas are now switching back to concrete for road surfacing. Although there are some drawbacks to concrete it has far more advantages than asphalt and is considerably more environmentally friendly. -
Would you like to stick your foot in your mouth yet again? If you mean MY toaster, I'm glad you don't talk to it. I like my toaster to be silent and sane, so please do not attempt communication with my toaster. Go pick on someone else's toaster instead.
-
Sure have, and since you mention them its obvious you don't know how they work or that matter much about how radar in general works. These are not "anti stealth" systems, it is a common misconception that they are, however that is wrong. Here, educate yourself about them a little. Truth about Tamara and Kolchuka Systems. As I said, dream on. Oh yes, I forgot to mention that the sale of 300 million worth of Tamara systems to Iraq in 1997 doesn't appear to have done them much good has it.
-
Well now I know for sure. So you do actually talk to your toaster CR, I always suspected as much. Having read through this interminable thread all I've seen you do is present unproven/unprovable fantasy and discount any points that are actually based on reality while you call everyone insane. Done with you, you're not worth wasting time on anymore.

Yeah...okay...dream on buddy.

Much of what you say is true Ghosthacked. However I believe it would be a mistake to count out Russia so quickly on the technology front. They have shown that they can be leaders and not just followers. For instance they were leaders in the area of aero sciences for quite some time, fielding designs and innovations that the west hadn't even thought of. Things such as vectored thrust rockets and turbines, or that supersonic torpedo they developed. In the area of space exploration they excell in their knowledge of the effects of extended periods of living in zero g. Also foregoing the admittedly very impressive feat of landing men on the moon and instead opting to land robotic devices allowed them to gather far more "on the ground" information than the Lunar landings afforded the west. Laser eye surgery is another area in which they set many precedents and the west actually learned from them. In short, even though they have suffered as a result of the cold war and the economic failure that it produced I think it would be short sighted to discount them. It probably wouldn't take too long for them to get back on the horse so to speak and ramp up their research and technology gathering/development again.

Has Anyone Been to the Far North?
AngusThermopyle replied to Fortunata's topic in Travel, Leisure and Sports
I was going to say yes when I first read the thread title. Then I read the thread and realized that six months in Alert was most likely not the far north you were talking about. -
This is true, it came to light that a plane and crew were on standby to go. Skiing with his family and then telling lies to excuse it just struck him as a preferable course of action.

Open warfare in South Ossetia
AngusThermopyle replied to moderateamericain's topic in The Rest of the World
Wrong again, there's a very large group of Americans who do not believe what they were told about 911 (in fact an article I recently read stated that 84% of polled respondents believe 911 involved some form of cover up). That shouldn't matter to you though, you can always rely on that state controlled Russian media for the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth. -

How many times do you have to be told? Don't forget to take your meds! What is it about young trash not wanting to take their meds? -

Is it possible that you meant to say "every republic was allowed to leave with whatever territory was stolen from it by USSR"? That makes much more sense than the original quote I posted. That business of course being the annexation of Georgia. Of course you have a reliable source to back up this claim, right? Otherwise it would just be so much crap, so obviously you must have a reliable source, right? When did South Ossetia become a republic? Would that not imply that SO is an independent country? When did that happen? -

Yeah...okay. Don't hold your breath waiting for that to happen. Now I have to ask why using cluster bombs is a war crime? You'll like the link I provide Myata since its Israeli's condemning the use of these weapons. However there is no law prohibiting their use, just opinions that they are bad and should be illegal. Israeli site talking about cluster munitions -
I think you misunderstand me, when I say never used to be I'm not talking about recently. I'm talking about 50 or more years ago. It was common practice for medics to be unarmed in many instances back then. After 20 years of service and six deployments this is something you really don't have to tell me.

It appears that you really don't know how NATO functions. You do know how to spell it though, thats good.

I was going to stay out of this since I'm finding it rather boring now. However I do feel a few points that have been made need to be questioned. so, if I could have some answers to the following I would appreciate it. First point. How do you know they would have been exterminated? What is the basis for this statement of yours? So you believe the Georgian army exists only to exterminate Ossetians? If thats the case why were they in Iraq? are there a bunch of Ossetians living there? Once again, where did you find this information? You know, the Georgians are determined to exterminate the Ossetians? I think what you meant to say was formerly occupied and annexed countries. Well thats not true, others like power as well. Just about any totalitarian regime likes power, and will do just about anything to gain it, in that respect Russia falls quite nicely into the club. -
Yeah right! All you've done on a number of occasions is spout drivel that is in large part unrelated to reality. You even admitted that your kids have a more balanced view of life than you. Now run along and hug an anti American to show your solidarity. Ah, I see. That explains why the price has dropped lower now than it has been in many months, those tensions don't ya know.

I don't know. Is that taught at UWO?
-
Yes and no dancer. Medics are armed now, they never used to be though. The big point to consider is the fact that medics are obligated to place themselves in the line of fire, no matter what. Add to that the fact that this obligation exists whether they are treating one of their own or an enemy combatant or an innocent civilian. This is why Medics are treated differently from other soldiers. Having said that, the Medic is a high value target, take him out and you've removed a very important asset.

Once again Myata you are right. The Russians are and always have been the embodiment of good, all that is kind and noble about the human spirit. It was kindness and goodness that led them to booby trap toys with explosives in Afghanistan. It was the same kindness they would employ when they'd hold a villager down and run a T-72 over them starting at the feet in order to make the other villagers talk. It was kindness and goodness that led them to murder over 50,000,000 of their own, just pure goodness. If you actually knew anything you'd realise that these tactics are nothing exceptional for the Russians, rather they are just the way they do things. The last report I saw said they are not honouring any cease fire and that Russian supported Ossetians are pillaging, looting and burning homes and businesses. As I said, that was the last report I read, it may be wrong but it certainly does sound like business as usual for the Russians.
