  1. Well I can't argue about 2 commando. I knew quite a few of those guys at that time and its true, quite a few of them were unproffesional and undiscilplined. Though the actions of individuals were their own personal responsibility a large, very large part of the breakdown could be laid directly at the feet of command. it was weak and ineffective, couple that with a new recruiting policy that made it a virtual shoe in for those seeking the infantry and eventually the Airborne and it was just a disaster waiting for the right circumstances to explode. Its no secret that the CAF is weakest at the command level. What can we expect when we train our officers as accountants and managers with little emphasis on the soldier part of command any more? Not to mention the fact that those in power appear to believe we need more officers per man than any other nation in the world. You gotta keep all those guys busy somehow.
  2. Hmmm, Chinooks as inspiration for extremism. First time I've heard that one. As for who cares. How about the guys whose lives they'll help preserve? I bet they care. Or are you saying that because you have a different opinion and don't like current policy that their lives are beneath consideration or concern?
  3. Thats why secret talks are being held right now with goal of pushing through the FPU, the Federated Planet Union. They're working on a common currency right now and the interdimensional super space highway is already being built. Of course the headquaters will be in Washington DC.
  4. I think I mentioned that I read an article, I think it was in Maximum PC, where they stated that the gaming industry had outstripped the movie industry in total revenues. It makes sense actually, given the amount of different platforms out there and the fact that it appeals to far more young people than the movie industry does.
  5. Can't argue with you there. However I would propose that the list is missing one point, which is the most sensational. After all the sensational sells and finding objectivity that overides financial considerations in the media world can be very difficult. Then there is the whole subject of bias and even dishonesty in this area that simply cannot be denied. It does exist and lies are told, even if not directly. The example I will use is the one I'm familiar with having been a member of the group that were directly targetted by the media. That would be the "hazing scandals" in the CAF during the early 90's. As I mentioned before I've participated in five of these "hazings" (actually crossing the line ceremonies) what I saw presented to the public by the media only in the vaguest way resembled reality after the editors were done with it. That is why I say lies are told. A lie does not have to be a direct statement, it can be a lie by ommission, or by misdirection, or by presenting elements of the truth but arranging them such as to indicate a false or untrue conclusion. The reasons for doing so are pretty obvious. It's not as sensational to show the reality, in fact most people would find the reality pretty boring. One clip shown was a guy with a mop head on his head, a bra and a skirt, the commentary was that CAF members indulge in bizzare practices that include dressing as women. What they didn't explain was that you have a "court" for the ceremony, you have Neptune, his wife, the court members, both male and female, it's all part of the show. This is how its always been done, the first time I crossed the line on a civilian ship on the way to south Africa it was done this way. Like I mentioned, even Trudeau participated in at least one of them, yet the Media failed to mention any of this and merely painted a portrait of slavering semi human brutes, and that is unequivocably a lie. This is part of the reason I approach the Media (I'm talking about news media) with such scepticism and have no faith or trust in them.
  6. Actually I heard that as well. Star Gate command will of course remain under Cheyenne Mountain, Colorado. Thats unnegotiable under the terms of The New World Order.
  7. Can't argue with that point. I think a far better word would be sensationalism.
  8. Hmmm, wonder if she'll have any job openings in the future?
  9. So what happens to gay people in California? If they were married before this are all their marital rights to be oveturned and the marriage not recognized? That would really suck for them.
  10. Yep, the absolute hands down best value in gaming, not to mention episode three is going to be coming out. The great thing aboout HL and HL2 is the story and characters, a persistant story line that involves you in the characters lives, and a pretty cool setting as well. Not to mention Portal, a game designed to boggle the mind and challenge your logic and puzzle solving skills. You forgot to mention Counterstrike, thats part of the Orange Box package as well. I was trying out that free online one I was talking about, Combat Arms, someone there was using a wall hack. Camped directly outside the spawn point behind a wall. He got me about three times before I figured out what he was doing. He must have been a noob because he didn't check to the rear. I just circled around behind him using the second exit from the spawn point and killed him, actually came up behind him and placed my pistol against his head and fired. Ended up getting him about five times before he figured out his little trick wasn't going to work any more. I really despise cheaters, nothing will ruin a game faster than cheaters, they certainly did with Day of defeat when it first came out.
  11. No its not a majority sort of problem or even close to a 50% sort of problem, currently it is still rather limited. Palestine being the most immediate example that comes to mind. However one can't look at this issue in a sense of absolutes, that is to say, even though currently the situation with extremists is at this lower level it will not change. Somalia is the most recent example. In the past the problems were all caused by warring factions of warlords. Now the problems are being caused by extremist groups taking power, an extreme ideology spreading across the country. As can be seen in the recent stoning of the young girl who was raped. So on the one hand I don't disagree with you, currently extremism is not all that widespread. On the other hand I don't think that is a good reason to disregard the potential and growing threat that exremism represents.
  12. Quite true. However, we do know he eats kittens.
  13. Please tell me I'm not the only one who see's the irony in this? I'm not really sure what you're getting at here, especially the last part about "those people" and "positions" and so on, it just doesn't make any sense.
  14. I agree we should, except for one tiny little point. Shidane Arone was a male, not a female.
  15. Now thats an interesting concept, I wonder if we'd be a left, right or center clan. It does go back to what I was saying about the community aspects of online gaming though. I need something new to play, I heard that Far Cry II has been released, I'll have to check and see whether it has, if so then I'll be getting it. I'll probably get Diablo III, not because I'm a fan of RPG's but because I played the other two so I'm curious about what III will be like. It's just my opinion but out of all the RPG's out there Diablo is my favourite. I'm not really sure why but the games just seem to have more atmosphere to them. Or maybe its just because Blizzard showed everyone how to do RPG's. The Diablo online community was great at first but deteriorated as cheats became more common for the game. My friend and I used to play in pairs, one of us would enter the game without cheats and the other loaded up with cheats. If someone came along and killed you by using cheats your friend with cheats would eradicate the cheater. My friend just happened to have the atomic bomb of cheats, we never met anyone who could take him down by using cheats. Back to TF, I think I made a kid cry once playing that game. He was being a dink, team killing, being offensive, in short being a dink. So I hunted him, everytime he'd respawn I was on his tail and killed him, after about ten minutes of this a message popped up saying "you just like to make kids cry don't you" then he logged out of the game. Honestly, I did feel a little guilty about it.
  16. So in effect what you are saying is that when shown to be wrong you don't listen. What an enlightened attitude. Let me help you a little here. I may be wrong but from your posts it appears that you are ignorant of the meaning of the word ignorant. Now thats irony.
  17. Do you even know what canada's mandate in Somalia was? Go find out then come and talk to me. Ah yes, the last shot of the ignorant, the Somalia scandal. I love the way those of a more Liberal persuasion will condemn an entire, large, group of people for the actions of a very very few and then claim it is justified. What I gather from your comment about brutallity is that you think Canadians in Somalia were brutal. Rather than the facts which are, one Aboriginal Canadian aided by another Aboriginal Canadian who were members of the forces commited brutal acts. So in your mind, because of the actions of two people all Canadians in Somalia were brutal. Yet another display of lack of knowledge concerning the actual facts. You still didn't answer my previous question.
  18. Been there, done that. When did you go? Was it the same time I was there? During the Clayton Matchee, Kyle Brown, Shidane Arone incident? It must have been since you're so well informed of the facts relating to Somalia. Once again you willfully ignore the fact that Canada accomplished its mandated mission goals because it doesn't support your statement. You then imply that we did not accomplish anything because 19 years after we left the place has been overtaken by extremists and pirates, a fallacious arguement based on faulty logic at best. How would I know though, I was just there participating in the mission that you claim accomplished nothing. How could my experience and knowledge ever compare to yours which you have already shown is based upon a blind refusal to learn the facts and discover what actually happened. Too bad you cant tell that to the Italian people circa late 30's , early 40's. I'm sure they would have appreciated your insight.
  19. The movie is called "Suicide Killers". They went to Israel and Palestine to interview people regarding the conflict. They interviewed average people, bombers both captive and free, familly members, both Israeli and Palestinian, and just about anyone else they could find. They didn't draw any conclusions or make any judgements, just presented the stories as told to them. It's fascinating and disturbing when you find out what really motivates these people and what they really think in their own words.
  20. Thank you for affirming what I said about your ignorance and lack of knowledge as relating to the subject. That you would even attempt to compare the Somalia of today with that of the early 90's is laughable on its own. It is interesting that you further prove my statement as to ignorance by flat out refusing to learn about the subject, noce, good to see people exist with a passion for truth such as yours. If it floats your boat then remain ignorant, refuse to read or learn, and remain a laughing stock for those who do choose to inform themselves.
  21. Okay, now I know you're not serious. There's a very large number of places on the earth where this is not respected at all. Some countries still employ slavery, others keep their citizens in various states that amount to vasallage. You just can't be serious about what you said, it absolutely ignores the facts as they stand in the world today. Yes, you definately are joking. So you think that if someone is in danger of their life, condemned by some mean nasties who want to kill them, they just have to say "I want to leave and I know a place they'll let me go to", and the mean nasties will just say, "cool, off you go then". It doesn't matter what nice ideas you come up with the simple fact is that mean masties exist all over the place, and not just in small numbers. You're idea would never work, not in the real world anyway. You can sing "We Are The World" all day long to the mean nasties and they wouldn't give a sh*t what you think, they'd still kill or enslave you at the drop of a hat.
  22. A statement based on a massive lack of knowledge of the facts coupled with a willing desire to remain ignorant. Before making such empty statements I suggest you do a little research and discover the actual facts, not just rely on sensationalist media and group hysteria. A good place to start is the link I provided in the Somalia thread located in "The rest Of The World" section of the forums. If you do so you will discover that Canada was the only nation present in Somalia to actually accomplish its stated mission goals as dictated by both the U.N. and the Canadian government. Perhaps rather than relying on misconceptions fostered by the popular media you might try actually learning the facts. After doing so you may see that the reality is not that which is peddled by mass media.
  23. Actually I was wondering about that very question myself. If one did not speak French and had no desire to learn it but was a Canadian citizen would they be barred from living in Quebec. Personally I don't think they would, they most definitly shouldn't be, but I don't know if they would. Or would they be forced to learn French?
  24. i didn't know we could tell people to stay out of threads we'd started. Cool!
