Very good point Drea. Some people do not realize this and fail to understand that the holiday has become much more than just a form of worship. This is why aitheists such as myself still enjoy it, and why I feel sorry for those who are just too stubborn or thick to get it.

Actually the only pathetic thing here is your feeble attempt to justify and defend a hugely sweeping generalization and totally stupid comment. Thank you, run along now.

Interesting, I was never aware of the fact that the Christmas tree was an instrument designed to prevent others worshipping in the faith of their choice. Quite frankly I find the whole Christmas tree prohibition issue to be so petty and childish as to be beneath consideration. I wish people a merry Christmas from a spirit of genuine good will, not as some sinister machination designed to deny them religious freedom. If all you see in such instances are the aforementioned machinations then I suggest you rejoin the normal people back on earth for a while until your perspective clears up a little.

Our Neighbours Could Be Terrorists!
AngusThermopyle replied to tamtam10's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Do you ever have anything of value to say? Or does your entire life consist of spouting the same tired stupidity over and over? However, if we use take your standard as valid then we should ship everyone back. This of course would include Natives as they too are immigrants and did not originate on this land mass. As for terrorists, look up the Canadian legal definition of terrorist and terrorism. You'll see that the actions taken by quite a few Natives fall sqaurely under that definition. Don't you get a bit cold constantly standing around with your pants down around your ankles? -
Gun Control Doesn't work...Never did, Never will!

So I was right then, it is more than 12. -
That just can't be refuted. In all honesty I don't think any monkey or donkey has ever been at the base of any frauds.

At least 12, probably more. And I say that with full confident conviction. -
Landed immigrants seek vote
AngusThermopyle replied to Chuck U. Farlie's topic in Local Politics in Canada
Now you have me confused. I guess you didn't read the rest of my post where I mentioned the idea of having to pass a test in order to be eligible to vote, or you chose to ignore it. Well, which is it? Or are you just quote mining, a very dishonest form of debate. -
Our Neighbours Could Be Terrorists!
AngusThermopyle replied to tamtam10's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Gotta love it when someone who doesn't have a clue tries to pretend they do. First, the Taliban are not defending their country, the very vast majority of them are not Afghani. Peace keeping is a non existent fallacy foisted on a gullible Canadian public, as BC points out, peace killing is a far more accurate descriptor. As for the only time we've atacked etc. Well, wrong, wrong and wrong again. So we don't use American kit. Well holy shit, I wonder where all that American kit came from that myself and my peers used for the 20 years I was in the forces. So, how bout giving me another good laugh by making another post such as the one I quoted? -
Interesting, I didn't know Martha Stewart has a penis, I wonder if she knows?

Absolutely ridiculous. They are not people. They were not born, they do not eat, breathe, shit or piss. They do not love or feel in any way. They have no rights (other than copyright) as they are fictional constructs with no corporeal existence. By this judges criteria they should run around charging store maniquins with indecent exposure when the outfits displayed on them are being changed. Must be either retarded, totally delusional or using some really excellent drugs to come up with this one. And yes, I have to agree that the idea of watching cartoon characters having sex is really really strange and I just don't get it, but to make the leap from that to declaring them persons is also equally strange.

How strange that you would choose this method for celebrating Christmas. Quite unique I would say. I have no problem wishing people a Merry Christmas, Ramadan or whatever else, even though I have no religious beliefs, why rain on someone elses parade just because...well actually I have no idea why anyone would wish to do so. Unless they're just a bitter twisted person full of hate for any who are different from themselves. By your definition any time you tell a child a story or let them watch a kids movie you are lying to them. Odd way to see fostering a sense of wonder and imagination in a child but to each their own I guess. Junk? Perhaps you like to give people "junk" but I prefer to put a lot of time and thought into the gifts I give and with a few subtle questions its easy enough to choose a practical gift that the person will enjoy. One persons junk is anothers treasure. Crappy food, hell I almost feel bad for you, almost. The food I serve at Christmas is always good, I love to cook and at Christmas I love to lay out a veritable feast, of good food. As I personally do not eat deserts, cookies or candies they tend to be in short supply around my place unless someone else brings them. Turkey is amongst the leanest and healthiest of meats availlable, hardly junk. The same goes for sweet potatoes, turnip, potatoes, etc etc. You should try it sometime instead of the crappy food you refer to. Those are the material aspects of the season, however it extends much farther than that. The community, social and personal aspects are also a great thing. Strangers wishing each other well is something worth having in our society, ideally such an attitude year round would be great. Still its better to have it for a short period of time each year than not at all. Families interacting in a loving way as they participate in decorating and preparing for the season is also pretty hard to knock. Poor people getting a break once a year instead of not at all, what a god dammned crime. Lets put a stop to that and let them rot in misery year round instead. I enjoy Christmas, the feeling of good will and warmth, the genuine expressions of well being toward others that prevails during this time of year. The excited children and happy couples who connect with each other on a basis of emotional happiness and well being. I also feel sorry for those who just don't get it. Those who misguidedly believe its about religion, who fail to see the human component inherent in it. Those who hate and despise so much that they are blind to the good. I feel sorry for you.

Okay, now I see what you're getting at. Honestly I don't know if anyone has ever gathered that sort of information. Without further info I'd have to say probably not. It would probably be a tricky study to undertake as so many people have so many perceptions and views of what constitutes left/right in a political context.

There have been quite a few studies done on the demographics of marijuana usage. As I recall from some of them it has pretty well become a mainstream drug with everyone from youth to doctors and lawyers indulging in it. I'll see if I can find some for you. Just A Quickie Not an ideal example but I'm a bit pressed for time and didn't want to just give you a link to NORML or something (they tend to be very biased). I'll look for some better links later if tou're interested.

So? What does your statement have to do with the facts that Dancer posted? Its common knowledge that countries in Africa that were under British rule were prosperous. Its also common knowledge that once they came under indigenous rule they became unlivable shit holes.

Cite please. Obviously you really don't know the facts if you seriously make such an assumption.

We already did that, it was a miserable failure. Although designed by an American the Bricklin is widely considered to be a Canadian car. Quite An Interesting Story -

Oh yay! Yet another post consisting of unassailable logic from one of the usual suspects. I must ask, is the size of the font used inversly proportional to the intelligence of the poster using it? Or is that just my impression? -
Cite, link, anything? Or is this just your personal opinion?

Wow! Did you ever hit the nail on the head with that one! The answer is yes, thats exactly what he would like to see. Just read his previous posts in just about any thread he posts to, you'll see what I mean. -
Khadr should make us ashamed to be Canadian
AngusThermopyle replied to Leafless's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
I have to echo AG's comment. What the hell is that supposed to mean? Do you have any clue what armed conflict actually is? Whenever I would deploy it was with a clear and unconfused understanding that if I was captured it would mean a very horrible and probably slow death for me. Are you saying that this worthless scum should have been exempt from the hazards of battle, perhaps he should have had a big flashing sign over his head saying "hands off, I'm just a poor misguided muffin"? As has been previously stated he is very lucky to even be alive. In all honesty I have to say that I doubt very much that I would have shown him the mercy that he was shown. Perhaps you don't like the idea but too bad, thats what conflict is about. You only have to see some guys in a technical gunning down innocent men women and children once to understand this completely. -

Our Neighbours Could Be Terrorists!
AngusThermopyle replied to tamtam10's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Well you've convinced me Punked, you're right, we should just sit on our asses and do absolutely nothing. After all who cares about the fact that an existant system known to be in place and static can be circumvented and circumvented far more easily as time passes? Who cares that it has been common knowledge for many years that Canada is irrefutably known as a safe haven for sleeper and terrorist fund raising cells? It's just inarguable that we should concentrate solely on curing cancer, after all we want all our citizens to be healthy before we throw their security to the wind. Of course your response to the Air India bombing can not be refuted. After all it only happened once so far so who cares, right? Seldom have I seen such specious and nonesensical ideas defended so staunchly by one with so little understanding of reality. Congratulations, you've managed to indesputably take the proverbial cake. Oh yes, since you're new I feel I must mention a comment you made earlier. Its related to an unfounded assumption you made when earlier you inplied that I do not care about our troops abroad. As most people here could tell you if they wanted to bother wasting their time talking to you I spent 20 years in the forces and did a total of six tours including Somalia, Yugo, and Rwanda among others. It appears your unfounded and totally false assumption holds as much value as the rest of your ill concieved and unfounded assumptions. A note of imterest here, it would appear that you and Dalliare have a lot in common. He to adopted a do nothing attitude in Rwanda. It only cost thousands of innocent lives including the lives of ten men under his command. Good company you keep I must say. At this point the most gracious course of action you could take is to admit that you shot your mouth off without having a clue what you were talking about. However having read your posts so far I really don't expect you to do so. Rather I expect you will back peddle and attempt to justify your former statement as that appears to be your modus operandi, at least so far. Just a word of caution for future reference, on this forum it pays to actually have an inkling of an idea about the subject under discussion before making bold and unsuported statements. Forum members here for the most part are very particular about what is said and assertions that hold no weight in reality. Thanks for your time, now run along, the short bus is waiting for you. -
Okay I guess you have comprehension problems, either that or you are just uncomfortable admitting that what you've accepted as truth is actually a fabrication. Did you not see the part about where far less water is used than is actually allocated? Or the part about water reclamation? Or the part about new methods not requiring water or just a minimal amount of water? Not to mention the fact that the waste water is not heavy water at all, or do you not know what heavy water actually is?

Sorry Capricorn. I guess I misunderstood you. I thought you were saying we shouldn't do or change anything because it worked once already Okay Punked, how about you tell us why ensuring the safety of Canadian citizens is a white rabbit? While you're at it maybe you can lay out a few of those better uses for us?
