  1. Danes can be ferocious, true, but just about any dog can be. I believe its all in the way they are raised, hence the reasoning behind my desire for stiff penalties for those who corrupt an animal. I view it as being similar to irresponsible use of a weapon. Did you know that when attacked by a dog humans will instinctively freeze for a second? I love dogs, it makes me feel so angry when I hear about people abusing them. Dragging them behind vehicles, using them for dog fighting, that sort of thing. We really should jack up the penalties for such behaviour. Right now they just get a slap on the wrist. Edited to add: Actually all the Danes I've ever known have been very gentle and loving dogs, granted I've only ever known about 5 or 6 of them. Still, they've all been consistently gentle.
  2. I gotta give you that. True monsters in every sense of the word. Attacking you with wagging tails and huge smiles, paws outstretched in a viscious manner. Covering your face with toxic dog tounge slime at every opportunity. Man! You dont know how much I miss my girls!
  3. Its obvious from that statement that you dont work in a technical field of employement. The metric system is so far superior to the imperial system that I cant even begin to tell you of the advantages. When working with metric measurements and wieghts your accuracy will be tenfold over the old Imperial method. Keep in mind that I was born in England and spent some of my early years in South Africa and Australia before my familly moved to Canada. So I was thouroughly immersed in the imperial sytem. It was a little hard when my familly first came to Canada, I had to learn a new culture and also a new measurement system. I actually thought it was stupid, I learned it anyway. Now I'm glad I did. Using Lasers and GPS Technology we can erect a Steel building covering acres and as tall as as required ( usually about 75 to 350 feet). Guess what? Our GPS and Lasers give us our measurements in Metric, we can use any gradient we want with the press of a button. All new tools are calibrated on the Metric system. Metric is the measuring stick of science. I would say that one of the dumbest things the States has ever done is to block adoption of the Metric system. Its moot anyway, the States are Metric in all but daily commerce.
  4. Excellent post Capricorn. It refreshes my memory of the event. As I said, it was a long time ago that I heard of this. I guess over time my memory lost the details. I thought that more than one ship was turned away. Thanks for providing the reminder.
  5. I thought you might have made a mistake. Dont worry about it, I screw up all the time and I've been using these things since the Vic 20.
  6. No! That is truly dispicable, Danes are such a great familly dog (if you can afford to feed them that is). I cant understand why people would want to ruin one of the truly pure animals on this planet. The dogs shouldn't be banned, the dammned stupid plugs who pervert and destroy these animals should be ... punished suitably.
  7. Actually what I find really interesting is the comparison that can be made between the video and the newspaper article. The newspaper article really doesn't say much, it recites charges laid (not really indicative of anything much, when its mischief type charges) and names those charged. All in all it really doesn't tell you much. The video on the other hand speaks volumes, you know the old saw about a picture being worth a thousand words. The vast and overwhelming majority of violence displayed does not seem to bear out the threads title in any way.
  8. Sorry Kengs but that is a patently false statement.During the war Canada accepted many people fleeing Europe, all kinds of people. Except Jews. The denial of entry of Jews had not much to do with the war and everything to do with them being Jewish. You may not like this fact, you may find this fact to be distastefull, but nonetheless it remains an indisputable fact. Do a little research, let your curiosity get the better of you and I'm sure you'll find it to be true. As I said in my other post, when I learned of this it shocked me to the core, I think I was about 16 at the time, that would be about 1976. It's not something widely published, spoken about, or acknowledged in Canada. I'm probably wrong, but I get the impression that you dont really like Jewish people too much. Edit: Sorry, I thought about it a bit and I was about 13-14 in 76 not 16.
  9. I cant answer for Rue, nor can I give you a source at the moment but I will say that what he states is true. King did turn Jews away from landing, many had to return to Europe, some lucky ones were granted entry into the States via New York. This is in my opinion just about the most shamefull action in Canadas history, one that is hardly ever mentioned. As a youth I was truly dismayed when I first learned of it.
  10. Hey! I'm all for that any day of the week, so long as I don't have to nakedly hug men.
  11. You know, I'd like to know more about this assault. I watched the video's that Posit posted a link to and didn't see any assault on a woman. Does anyone know anything more about this?
  12. You make a good point, sorta. Your figures are off, it's actually 26 countries that use French as an official or co-official language. The actual amount of worldwide speakers of French is estimated at 77 million with an estimated 50 million using it as a second language. Since I know you will be sceptical here's a link. Hmmm, cant seem to make it active, oh well, just copy and paste. Still quite a few speakers actually. However French use is on the decline worldwide, except, obviously in France. For instance, Vietnam used to be pretty well French speaking as an informal second language. Now however that demographic has changed and French has entered a period of severe decline in that country. The same holds true for other countries that were in similar situations. Its accepted now that French use is on the decline worldwide and has been so for quite some time. One reason cited has been a lack of flexibility and adaptability within the structure of the language itself. No matter how you try to spin it English language use worldwide is on a steady rise whilst French use continues to decline.
  13. I may be wrong but I believe he's saying that those ones should be executed.
  14. You forgot to mention that it breaks down the protective elements in NBC suits pretty effectively. It'll reduce the effectiveness of your suit by about 75% in a relatively short time. Prolonged exposure will render both suit and mask useless.
  15. What license plate issue? I'll never be a McGuinty fan, he lies like a Persian rug.
  16. Yes, it was a tragedy of errors. Might have been avoided if the crew of the ammunition ship had not abandoned her without trying to fight the fire. (Notice how I'm being PC and not mentioning the fact that it was a French ammunition ship.)
  17. I hate to break this to you but that is exactly what war has become for many present day antagonists. Even if troops are prepared the protective measures availlable are of use for a limited time only. That is not even touching upon the Biological weapons in development currently. Every serving member of the Forces spends quite an extensive amount of time at NBC school, unless they are in third line units. We actually learn about this stuff, more than we'd comfortably like to know actually. It was always the consensus that these weapons are going to be the way of the future. Nuclear is far to messy, B/C weapons can be tailored for specific uses and many vectors can be used to deliver them. The reason they are banned is because they are so horrific. Terror in itself is a great tactical advantage. If you can force your enemy to live in terror you've won half the battle right off the bat.
  18. Most of what you say makes sense. Except for that statement. Not everyone desires peace, some desire quite the opposite in fact. With strife and conflict come vast opportunities for the growth of personal power and influence. One should never assume everyone wants peace. If one does then that one will be blindsided by those who seek power and influence over peace. It is more representative to state that most or the majority want peace, not everyone.
  19. Very interesting article. Particularly the part about spending more than 750 million, in fact the talk is about spending billions. I'm also curious as to why it should be necessary to spend large amounts of money in order to entrench the French language outside of Quebec.
  20. It's true, it is a farce. I know so because I was told that the natives at Caledonia are all good people who desire only to live in peace and harmony with nature. It's all evil Whitey's fault. If that cop hadn't gotten in the way of the stolen car then there wouldn't be a problem (other than car jacking that is) (oh, and assaulting cops). Now, seriously. This doesn't surprise me at all. Just another example of the simplistic thought process at work with the people who are causing these problems.
  21. Good answer. As soon as I saw the comment about NBC weapons being over rated I thought "what an uninformed thing to say". They are actually very effective. Give them a little time and you'll find Biological weapons may just become the biggest threat we have invented to this point. With Biological weapons you have so many possible vectors that can be utilized, it would be impossible to counter all of them.
  22. You make a very good point. It's one that will be lost on certain people though. I find that those who live their entire lives in comfort and safety have little empathy with or understanding of those who do not.
  23. I miss my girls, a lot. I had two Pitties back in Ontario. Both were females and pretty much the biggest babies you could ever meet. They should never have banned those dogs. Jail the bad owners instead. I've owned many dogs in my life, some exceptional breeds actually. When I got my girls (both were rescue dogs) I realized what an exceptional breed the Pit Bull actually is.
  24. True, these things do happen, that doesn't make it right though. Should we just say "well, it happens" and turn a blind eye to it? The simple fact is that in third world countries this sort of practice is a given, part of the way of life, should we too follow this model? The desire to be accommodating must be curbed at some point. We cant just say "well thats hunky dory" and ignore this kind of thing. As for your examples, they serve only to illustrate that reprehensible behaviour and attitudes can occur anywhere. They in no way what so ever justify this sort of expectation of privilege.
  25. The part I find disturbing is where they mention a planned demonstration. The demonstration itself is not a problem, annoying yes, but not a problem. What is a problem is this idea to stage fake heart attacks and so on. That just falls into the category of down right stupid. Hopefully the ones organizing the demonstration will think twice about such an irresponsible action. Honestly though I think it shows the mindset that is undesirable in this country. The fact that they believe they should get preferential treatment because they donated money is disgusting. Pretty third world sort of mindset actually.
